2-9 in extra innings, congrats.

Leyland's a moron for taking out Smyly after he struck out the side in the 9th. :wall:
Really. With a tie game, why not stretch out your bullpen in case it's needed? And why make Rondon's first outing for this call-up a pressure cooker?

And let's try to ignore the fact that Verlander still isn't clicking.

jon_mx - good points about Leyland. I agree that VMart should have been dropped a bit until he gets his rhythm back.

I know I said I was done here until September, but, did I read correctly that Torii Hunter attempted a bunt with two outs and the bases loaded in a 3-1 game in the 8th inning yesterday?

It looked like a swinging bunt attempt, not sure what he was doing.

This is why you have to win games like they lost on Thursday and Saturday. Alvarez was due to be bad, this is an acceptable loss during the course of a season. Seven walkoff losses and only two walkoff wins doesn't help either.

Rondon looked good yesterday FWIW, I think he's key in the second half. If he and Al Al can throw strikes it goes a long way to solidifying the back of the pen (along with a Latroy Hawkins type vet). They should be able to run off long win streaks in the 2nd half and keep in mind we have 19 games left with the White Sux.

Tigers will win the central and here is why:

Leyland is a players manger, the players will play their guts out for him in August and September, they like him and respect him and they want him back next year. Lots of talent and players with high opinions of themselves on the Tigers, not a easy team to manage.

The Twins, Sox, and Royals are toast, they will not finish above 500, Cleveland maybe 500 when it's all said and done.

The Tigers will trade for a proven closer and win the close games. Rondon is not the answer he has two pitches, a fast ball and ball four.

Fielder/Vmart/Hunter will heat up in the second half, and that Miggy dude is pretty good also.

I have always been told you have to dance with girl you bring to the dance, that's what Leland is doing, and the Tigers will reap the rewards of Leland's manger skills when it is all said and done

Peace

It's not enjoyable to watch.
Just trying to weed out all the fair weather fans. Just like they did from 1989 to 2005, but hopefully not that long.
Not likely to happen since they were 39-42 at the same time last year. I don't think fans had much to complain about in 2007 or 2008 and I took exception to it, but this team is loaded to the gills and is under-performing. People should be disappointed at the on-field performance but baseball is a strange animal, look no further than the Angels, Dodgers and Nationals to see that.

Outside of the bullpen and Verlander not being all-world, the team has been OK. Take away the blown saves, the loses in extra innings and this team is playing well. Minus Smyly and Bonoit, the bullpen is 1-15. If they were even .500, the Tigers would have the best record in baseball. They have blown a lot of games. Frustrating, but fixable. Hopefully, the problems can be cured with the checkbook. I would not like to have to deal Garcia.

Wonder what kind of trade value Santiago has?

Throw the manger and the baby out with the bath water. Six second inning runs and Fister can't contain the Jays on a night we absolutely had to give them a real good Fister. Terrific hitting after the 2nd inning once again, 10 ks and two runners stranded at second. Awful. Just bring in Coke now so we don't have to suffer through extras.

Miggy has a stiff back, day to day.

Bullpen was terrific for a change and Fister really sucked it up to go six after a rough first two innings. I think they need three of these next six with at least two of those in Cleveland.

Stiff back he can deal with and recover in a couple of days..watching him swing I winced thinking it was an oblique strain. Miggy is pretty amazing with his size and body type being able to get out there everyday.

Sorry everyone, due to a lightning strike in my yard and Comcast being a bunch of d o u c h e s

I have been without internet for a while. Some of you may think it is a good thing, but oh well.

Not Leylands fault, these guys gotta start performing.

My two cents.

Peace

This team should be way better. Kind of ridiculous really with all that talent.
It's the same #### every year. They usually start playing in August or so, but one of these years it'll be too late. Is this that year?
What exactly does Santiago bring to the team? Can`t hit, no range, and is slow as molassis.
The biggest waste of a roster spot. He gives them some depth in the infield if a couple people were injured. But still who really wants him in the lineup?

I am really starting to Like Tori Hunter. Has a little bit of red a z $ in him.

Might be the bug in the tigers ear they need.

2 run single up the middle....Bagoosh

Nice winning streak here ...let's keep it up before the All-Star game (and the strong Detroit representation!).

List of top ten RBI totals before the All-Star break has 90 at the bottom. It'd be nice to see Miggy crack that list!

I am done.

This Hunter guy. Can we please get rid of him.

No power

No enthusiasm

No leadership

Bah.....

three run homer, whatevers.....

Peace

Bullpen got it done. Good to see Rondon contribute positively. Smyly was great as usual, but is pulled too quckly. Benoit did manage to hold on for the save.

V-Mart seems to be back, which is huge. 10-game hitting streak, 17 for 41 (.415), 4 doubles, 2 HR. There is not a whole lot on this team not to like. The bullpen with Smyly, Rondon, and Benoit is even starting to shape up, although still a work in progress. Need to bring in an arm or two by the trade deadline.

yeah hopefully they dont have to move a garcia or nick for an arm(s) now, just get some depth.

one more solid arm would be nice to bridge from the starters to the back end of the bullpen. I really don't trust those other 4 guys we have right now and Rondon is himself still a work in progress.

Agree with all of this. I've noticed the uptick for VMart, and it was good to see him drive in the runs last night ...that's a couple of late inning wins for the team lately. As DD has pointed out, we're just now starting our games against the White Sox, who are a defeated team right now.

I don't think the White Sox got the memo on being a defeated team. JV not so good tonight

Brian Wilson isn't beginning auditions until after the deadline. Smart move for him, frustrating for me.

I am still on board with the Kevin Gregg angle. Then look at Wilson. Gregg shouldn't cost much either.

The Sox lose four straight to the Cubbies ...then go to Detroit and lay a whuppin' on the Tigers? Oof. Leyland needs a shorter hook on JV for a while - he's had a couple late-pitch count mistakes of late. Though middle relief has no viable option beyond Smyly.

How long til VMart's batting average passes Prince?
