***Officialish Detroit Tigers Thread*** (2 Viewers)

Peralta's hit was huge, especially after Avila struck out on three pitches. Now let's see if the bullpen can do its job.

Tigers with the early lead (Avila - ), but TB winning the pitch count battle through 5. Verlander already at 87 pitches! Bullpen's going to have to come through tonight.
Well, it swung back the other way. Niemann had a long 7th with the two walks, a full at-bat by Kelly, etc. He then comes out in the 8th and immediately gives up a couple of hits that turn into some nice insurance. :bye:Hang on, guys!!Agreed about Peralta. He, Avila, Cabrera, and VMart all batting over .300 - very solid, now, through the heart of the order.

Verlander is making a strong case for MVP.
I'm actually starting to believe this argument has a case. Also Ramon ####### Santiago, guy is playing some phenomenal D and hitting some also. Best stretch of play at @B we've had all year, amazing. I've always liked him but he's sucked a lot this year, but he's certainly earned his salary over the past week.

...if Gonzalez and Granderson split the vote out east? Could be!Tough top of the ninth for Cleveland's Perez in giving up the go-ahead run:HBP (#7 hitter), HBP (#8 hitter), E-1 on a bunt (loads 'em up), K, SF ... oops!

Question about yesterday's game. If both benches were warned after Porcello threw behind a batter, why didnt Valverde get tossed after hitting a guy in the 9th?
Because no one would ever hit a guy in that situation on purpose.
I guess i assumed after both teams were warned that the ejection was automatic. I guess i dont understand the purpose of the warning. An umpire can toss a pitcher without warning him so the warning is just a matter of "ok...we know there may be some shenanigans coming up, so we are really serious here..." ??

Not expecting much tonight with Penny being on the road. If he gives up 4 or less runs in 6 innings, I would be pleasantly surprised. Tigers will have to explode tonight offensively if they want to continue their win streak.

Tigers close to 2-1 dogs tonight, it would be an upset.

Leyland has already stated that Valverde and Benoit will not pitch tonight. I think the odds are higher. That being said, mark down a win for the Tigers.

Had 101 pitches, but I would have let Penny stay in a bit longer. The walk was more the batters doing with 3 foul balls than Penny's fault.

Dodged three-bullets there.
I counted more than three. Still don't get why they aren't using Pauley, makes no sense. He was the set-up guy in Seattle and I prefer him over a guy like Perry (although Perry did get the big out). Gotta go Coke in the 9th.

That right there...is a really nice win.

Coke shows a lot of guts, he is where he is supposed to be again and it shows. I like Coke>Benoit>Big Potato from here on out.

Great win. Coke did a great job bearing down and getting the last out. It took 10 pressure filled pitches. All the starters had a great outing the last week, which is very encouraging. I really like our lineup vs. Righties. Not so much vs. Lefties. Too many dead spots, unless that trio can start producing some runs. Bullpen has been rock solid. Great to see the team jelling towards the end of the season. They could be a force in the playoffs.

:lmao: I was so wrong about Avila. :lmao:
Right now is there any catcher in MLB you would take over Avila? There will be a big payday in his future.
Posey, maybe Wieters because he is superior defensively. Not sure about Mauer's health...That's probably it.
Seems like Avila bat control has just improved every week..the way he drives the ball in all directions is impressive.Rough game to watch last night since I had Price going in my FBB playoffs and the other team had Avila..was hoping Price was going to get a ND..anyway the damage was not too bad.

Why is Valverde in? Seriously?
That move damn nearly cost two games. First Valverde came in and threw batting patractice that almost allowed Cleveland to come back from a 4 run deficit. Then the next night, Valverde is too tired to pitch when we need him for a save. Coke nearly blew it. Leyland got away with two wins, but he should have handled that better.

He just helped make both games more exciting. Entertainment value!

Alex Avila is batting .429 with five homers and 15 RBIs in 19 games this month and has made 17 consecutive starts behind the plate with Victor Martinez hampered by a sore left knee

Scherzer having a rough 5th. Pitch count is spiking up. Hopefully he can pitch out of it.

Tonight's lineup almost makes sense. Other than Young batting 3rd. Bump Young down to 8th and Avila up to third.

Holy #### did Avila ever crush that one. :banned:
Can I say that I want to marry Avila? He has been clutch as a hitter and gets HAMMERED every night behind the plate. He pops bakc up, gets a hit and smiles like the cat who ate the canary as he stands on second and laughs at the pitcher.AVILA FOR THE WIN!!!peace

Brandon ...dude ...a sharp ground ball right to ya ...take it to first for the easy out.
I did not see the game, just followed online a bit. I was confused by the scoring. I saw it was scored as a fielder's choice, I thought cool we got out of that. But then the run scored, and I had no idea what happened until the story was posted online. Playing third in softball, I can understand going to second, it is a much easier throw. I would put the majority of the blame on the second baseman for not being there on time. Horrible way to lose a game. Definitely one of the major weaknesses of this team is the defense.

Obviously softball is different than baseball. Bases loaded, the runner on first is gonna have a big lead and with two out he is gonna get a great jump. Inge could have gone to third or first easily. The whole if the ball is too your left copout Inge is making is BS in this situation. Yet another reason to hate him.

I have more of a problem with Inge saying he'd do it the same way again.
Ugh. Well, no damage with Cleveland and the Sux both losing. And even if we get out of the inning, it only extends the tie game further. Let's see if Fister can have another solid outing today.

The biggest difference would be in softball you can't leadoff. In this particular case, I assume the runner on first was not even being held close to the bag since the winning run was on third and he meant nothing. Under those circumstances the mindset should be if you can't step on third, then throw to first since the guy was not held on. So yeah, Inge was not thinking right given all the circumstances.
