***Officialish Detroit Tigers Thread*** (1 Viewer)

People caring about spring training batting orders scare me.
Given Leylands history. Nothing would surprise me. Just saying he has been leaving Inge at the top a lot. Why wouldn't he just leave Boesch there who is younger and could use the extra ABs, also who is supposed to hit there in the regular season?
Boesch is the #2. Last week Leyland had a quote along the lines of "people may flip out and read things into it that they shouldn't but I am going to bat Inge second to get him some extra at bats so he can have every chance to compete for 2nd base job, I am also going to bat Avila second at times so I can get him an extra at-bat and limit his time behind the plate in ST."

LAKELAND, Fla. — The Detroit Tigers have released reliever David Pauley after the right-hander got off to a slow start in spring training. The Tigers announced the move Monday after a 7-all tie with the New York Mets in 10 innings.Pauley gave up five earned runs in 2 2-3 exhibition innings.Pauley had a 2.15 ERA in 39 appearances for Seattle last season before being traded with starter Doug Fister in August. With Detroit, Pauley was 0-2 with a 5.95 ERA in 14 games and left off the postseason roster.“I know I am better than I showed,” Pauley said. “I can’t blame anybody but myself.”Pauley, who was out of options, was competing for a middle-relief spot. Detroit also placed designated hitter Victor Martinez on the 60-day disabled list.
I think that also makes three straight ties in Spring Training.

Listening to local radio this morning they were talking about the 5th starter this season. Specifically they were going on about Turner and how it seems like he's having trouble locating this spring. I know it's just ST and pitchers probably aren't throwing much breaking stuff but location is pretty important.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Duane Below win that job.

That wouldn't surprise me either.Oliver is also in the mix I guess. Whoever they settle on, its good that they have lots of options from which to choose.

This.

I don't think they'll settle for anyone. Whoever is the best will get 3-4 starts in April, if they flounder someone else will get a shot, etc.

My $ is on Oliver first because he's been here before and I don't think Turner is ready. Smyly or Below would be next. Then they hope Turner has a solid 2 months and he gets his shot come June, whether it be as the new #5 or injury replacement.

I like it. Lots of good arms that are near ready to include Crosby who hasn't even been mentioned yet, get them out there to see what we have.

Inge up with game tied at 6, runner on second, one out in bottom of the ninth.

Let's keep it right here folks

Long foul ball ball down LF line

2-2 count now, Inge right on top of last offering

Full count...

Pop up! :lmao:

Looks like Verlander is in mid-season form already. Dam good K ratio.

Justin Verlander struck out eight of the 14 Orioles batters he faced today.

Raburn is raking this spring.
Understatement. 14 RBIs' in 15 AB's. Save some of that love for the season Ryan. Over about 140 games this year I'm figuring him for about 500 AB's so we're looking at about 130 HR's and 465 RBI's. :excited: Fielder had another ding dong today.
It sounds like Fielder and Cabrera have some great chemistry already. This is going to a fun season...wish it would start now as we have amazing baseball weather in Detroit. The forecast the temps this next week is: 74/78/72/78/78/73/70. It is amazing weather, I can't ever remember anything like it.

Bounced around downtown Detroit for St Pats Day..ended up having a beer on the bench at Tiger Stadium..standing at home plate and the pitching mound was pretty cool. Amazed that home plate and the rubber are still intact. Had to be at least 50 people just walking around on the field. Center field flagpole was flying Old Glory.

With everything knocked down the piece of land looks pretty small. Hard to believe that a stadium was there.

Uhoh, Miggy took a funny hop in the face today and left the game bleeding.
Being taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons and some stitches. Nasty hop that no one would've had a chance on.
Looks like the ball might have caught his glasses causing the cut: http://espn.go.com/mlb/spring2012/story/_/id/7709712/miguel-cabrera-detroit-tigers-takes-hard-grounder-face Scary regardless.
Seen Miggy a few times this spring and he looked pretty nimble out there, hope this does not make him a little gun shy.

Apparently he's feeling frisky too with 2 SB's this spring.

He should be ok after this, but I was thinking the same thing.

3B Miguel Cabrera is likely to miss a couple of weeks after suffering a small break in the bone under his right eye when struck by a hard grounder Monday.

Cabrera received eight stitches and told ESPN that he would be re-examined in a week.

hoping the big guy is ok

15th round and I'm dumb enough to jump back in the Max Scherzer pool. :wall:
Great move at that price.. Most of his under lying stats stayed the same from 2011 and his K/BB improved. Only thing I'm concerned about is his defense, but his K's are high enough that he should be able to avoid too much damage

FTW
I went into the draft determined not to pick good pitchers on ####ty teams. Especially my top of the rotation guysCame out of a 12 team league withCC (2), Hamels(3), FISTER!(8), Zimmerman(12), Luebke (13), Max (15), Sale (20)To be honest, my pitching makes me kind of hard.
Good deal on Luebke. I got Fister for $4 in my auction league, hadn't even really targeted him (my only Tiger). I have Cain/Anibal/Gallardo/Fister/Wainwright/Shields in my keeper league (1400 innings limit). I think my hitting is slightly above average but I think my pitching is awesome.

It's a damn good staff. Still dumbfounded by Shields rebound last year. If he can come close to repeating that, and you get Wainwright back at 100%, it's a great staff. In other Tigers news, was I crazy reaching for Boesch in the 12th as my 3rd OF? I probably could have gotten him later, but I think the AL Central is chock full of crappy arms (outside of the Tigers) and the Tigers are just going to feast on them all year. I think he puts together a really good season hitting #2 in the lineup.

I'm a little nervous. He may only hit .335 in April now instead of .345.

Young's still thriving with the Tigers

Minneapolis Star and Tribune

Delmon Young is batting .485 (16-for-33) with four homers, four doubles and 18 RBI this spring, picking up right where he left off last October for the Tigers.

I caught up with Young yesterday, after he connected for a home run off Atlanta’s Jair Jurrjens, and we talked about the benefits of hitting in a lineup like Detroit’s.

After getting traded from the Twins last August, Young immediately found himself in the No. 3 spot in Detroit’s batting order, right in front of Miguel Cabrera.

Now that the Tigers have added Prince Fielder, their plan when Cabrera comes back from his broken cheek bone, is to have Cabrera, Fielder and Young bat 3-4-5, with Alex Avila and Jhonny Peralta in the 6-7 spots.

“I’ve got two MVP candidates [Cabrera and Fielder] in front of me and two All-Stars [Avila and Peralta] behind me,” Young said. “You always want a lineup that can do a lot of damage from 1-to-9. That’s what this lineup’s capable of doing. We’ve just got to carry it into the regular season.”

The Tigers are 13-2-3 this spring. None of the results really matter now, but this is confirming what everybody knows: Detroit is the clear favorite in the AL Central.

“We’ve got a very good lineup, we’ve got a great pitching staff, and a great bullpen,” Young said. “We’re just going to go out there and play as a team and see where team baseball can get us.”

tigers need to get that long term deal done with Young

CrInge 0-3 today plunging his grapefruit avg to .184 The choice is clear I think for the Tigs.
Now at .171 after another 0-3 day.
What are the odds that they release Inge before camp breaks? With Don Kelly the backup at third and a Rayburn-Santiago platoon there is no reason to keep him on the roster. The way Raburn has been raking it would be tough to keep him on the bench.

Good points. They've got Kelly's glove and a couple of solid bats ...no need for Inge.
