Pretty sure that Swiggy could still hit 300-25-100 while sipping a snifter of scotch on the dugout every game. The guy swinging the bat like he is in mid-season form right now.

Interesting that Sizemore and Weinhardt got sent down today. Looks like Rhymes will make the team. Worth as well or do they just roll with Santiago at 2B along with Rhymes?

Penny looked pretty good yesterday, i like the fact he does what he does with a lower pitch count. Verlander being able to get to and through seven innings this year will be one of the biggest factors in the team's success this year.

Always been a huge VMART fan, but I like his edge too. Almost got in a fight yesterday when he was buzzed after the Miggy HR. After that, he doubled down the LF line (batting LH).

Max got blasted today :tfp:
Well he hasn't been that great this spring, but he's pretty much the only one. Scherzer's still a bit of a wildcard and I expect him to be very good at times, and then pretty bad at others.
I have him as my #4 in my daily league. I was at that 5 2/3 - 14K outing vs Oakland last Memorial Day weekend and fell in love.
My advice would be to sit him early to see where he's at and then ride his hot streaks. He looks to be very streaky and I think he's gonna blow up a few times, and also have 12/14 K games.

With his first start being v NYY, that's probably what I'm going to do.

Scherzer is going to win the AL Cy.

Really hope you are bumping this in late August.

TIGERS' OPENING DAY LINEUP

1. Austin Jackson, CF

2. Will Rhymes, 2B

3. Magglio Ordonez, RF

4. Miguel Cabrera, 1B

5. Victor Martinez, DH

6. Ryan Raburn, LF

7. Jhonny Peralta, SS

8. Brandon Inge, 3B

9. Alex Avila, C

Interesting that Avila is going to get the start with CC pitching.

I am looking forward to taking my late lunch tomorrow to watch some baseball :banned:

90 and the division.

Scherzer takes the next step and becomes a rock-solid 1B.

Raburn becomes a well-above average left fielder (offensively).

Not likely, but wouldn't it be nice -

Boesch finds his stroke again and starts stealing a lot of Magglio's days in the field, pushing Maggs to DH and Victor to C.

Verlander walking Jeter made me sick. I thought he was working on something that made him better in April? Too many pitches in the first few innings, that really can't continue for him to be a top five MLB pitcher which he is capable of.

Alex Avila blows.

Nice job by Verlander today overall. The Teixiera pitch was not good and the early walks bad, but he recovered nicely and got through six. Change-up really looked good today which is a great sign, his offspeed stuff in general was very good.

Verlander has got to get his pitch count down in the first couple of innings. How many pitches did he throw in the first? Seemed like he was out there forever and was going 3-2 with numerous foul tips on every batter. On another note the Yankee lineup is tough to get through unscathed and I thought he did pretty well other than the Tex homer.

Didn't get to see the game. Strike/ball ratio not very good. I used to think him throwing way too many pitches would be the one thing to hold him back from being transcendent and eventually he'd grow more efficient. Now I wonder if it'll ever happen, and if it's just a part of what makes him so good, because today was typical Verlander, only giving up three hits but using a million pitches to get through half the game.

Why is Phil Coke in the game? I thought he was a starter now? Ryan Perry down?

Leyland is getting on my nerves these days, he's starting to lose it. Alex Avila should be playing in a softball league and why is Rhymes hitting second?

:lmao:6 whole innings and the Leyland bashing is on it's wayThe guy's a clown. As usual, any success the Tigers have will be in spite of him

I know, because I root for a team that has an ###### for a manager, I can't comment on anyone else's managerBTW, love watching Mags chase that ball down the line like the chalk's going to hurt him if he touches it.

:lmao:

They're starting with a four man rotation. Penny is starting tomorrow. Coke is in the pen for a bit until the early days off go away.

Yeah that's fine but bringing him in as a stopper doesn't seem like the best idea. I can understand using him as a long reliever, but why not go Perry in the 7th? Whatever, besides Avila being a 2003 type of disaster as a player it wasn't a horrible day. I really like the order 1-8 (yeah well, Inge is fine as an 8th place hitter) VMART is a beast, I like Peralta and Raburn is gonna have a solid season (unless he's in a fulltime platoon then no).

Tigers' Jim Leyland goes XXX on Player X for Cabrera comments

From the Detroit Free Press:

Player X, whoever you are, Jim Leyland has a bone to pick with you.

Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera is the eighth-highest paid player in the majors.

Player X is an ESPN the Magazine blog written by unnamed players from the various sports.

In his first entry, the baseball Player X takes on Miguel Cabrera:

"In any group, there's always the crazy uncle who just can't seem to figure it out. Cabrera, who's been charged with DUI, is that uncle. I guarantee any one of his teammates would have picked him up if he'd called. Ditto his GM. …

"But, really, why isn't Cabrera paying a guy $100 a night to drive him around? Plenty of guys do that. That he didn't is a slap in his teammates' faces. Even if it costs $36,000 a year, we have watches worth more than that."

Whether it makes sense or not, Leyland didn't care for some anonymous player dissing his first baseman.

"To me that's a gutless (jerk) that doesn't put his name to it," Leyland said. "If somebody would have said, 'Hey, this is Jim Leyland and this is what I say, he should do this or this, then that's fine.

Considering Penny is having a meltdown in the first inning Coke could've been a good option to use in long relief today. Also Austin Jackson still strikes out way too damn much.ETA - it looks like Raburn may be in a platoon - Boesch got the nod today (and proceeded to strike out with a guy on third and only one out)

I hope this defense doesn't give me flashbacks to 2008 all season, I like Peralta as much as Greco likes Inge

Hard to say if the Tiger's pitching has been absolutely brutal or it's the fact that it's the Yankees and their launching pad of a stadium.

Probably both but this stadium sucks. Yankees line-up is pretty sickening though, I think those guys are gonna hit anywhere but it's not like they need any help. Big fan of Benoit and have been for awhile. Guy throws strikes, has great stuff and is extremely calm out there. Boesch looks decent, Raburn made a gold glove play on A-Rod early then dropped a line drive later. Maddening. Don Kelly is really the only guy on the team I'm sure won't drop it or make a poor throw. Him, Inge and Jackson are all above average but the rest of the team is questionable at best. That is gonna lead to some heartbreakers this year.

Tiex and Cano both hit pop-ups that drifted out. Posada and Swiggy pretty much crushed both of thiers. I did not really see BB's so I can not comment on that. The Yankees will take advantage of poorly placed pitches and there were far too many of those in this series. Nice to out hit them and get one win.

In the off-chance that Leyland manages to figure out how to turn on a computer and somehow finds his way here.

Jim - Try this lineup until further notice:

CF - Jackson

DH - Ordonez

RF - Boesch

1B - Cabrera

C - Martinez

LF - Raburn

SS - Peralta

3B - Inge

2B - Santiago

Looks so much better with Avila out of the order. Sad to be wishing for Laird to be back. Not sure Avila could hit 300 in slow pitch softball.

Short memories here. While Avila hasn't set the world on fire, he was much better than Laird last year and there is no way anyone should be longing for that pumpkinhead. I still think Avila may turn himself into an everyday catcher, but if Boesch can start out hot the Tigers should ride him until he fades.

I could have went to the game today but decided not to. I have no desire to sit in bad seats on opening day unless it was in my team's home park. Not sure what others think but I think opening day, especially if it's not the first game of the year, is for the home fans. This is the Orioles day, not the Tigers (althoguh we're gonna win today). Thoughts? I've never been to opening day either FWIW.

Going to the game on Thursday. :banned:

Nice work, Leyland. This weekend he clarified that Raburn was the starting left fielder, not in a platoon with Boesch. Now he's out of the lineup for the second time in four games. Yep, no platoon here.

So now Raburn will hit .200 through the first three months with about 50 plate appearances each month. I still think this guy is a .290 hitter approaching thirty homeruns if he starts 140+ games a year. Instead, we get Avila behind the plate when Martinez should be starting 100 games this year.

Not only is Avila a fabulous hitter, but he also calls a great game behind the plate. Would be nice to see a game where the other team doesn't get a three-run homerun.

3-3 on the opening road trip was fine by me, now we need these last two.

Stomach bug my ###. Someone drank a little too much Scotch last night.............again.

Miguel Cabrera and Jose Valverde are both dealing with a stomach bug.

Cabrera was throwing up during Monday's game, but still managed to play all nine innings. The Tigers have a scheduled day off Tuesday, so hopefully they'll have enough time to recuperate before Wednesday night
Si, that's it. I have what Jose has
