Out of town and missed the weekend activity ...great to catch up on the good news! Home-field advantage would be great, and it's certainly achievable. Nice to have Texas chasing us!
 
Let's see if the recent momentum holds through the road trip. We only have about three more times through the rotation. I'd like to see the starters limited on their pitch counts. No need to risk burning out the arms when the bullpen is strong and the division lead is secure.

 
My friend who has 4 season tickets is going to be out of the country for a month during the MLB playoffs. Just called me and asked if I wanted two of his seats for any or all playoff games. :pickle:

Where are you sitting? I need to decide if I want second row of the Tiger den right on first base, or third row off the field down the right field line. The Tiger Den is nice to get your drinks served but even second row behind the aisle is quite a distance from the field. The right field seats are between first and the foul pole.

Benoit has permitted just seven earned runs in 43.0 innings (1.34) during his past 45 appearances following a sluggish start to the season. In that stretch, he has struck out 43 and limited opposing hitters to a .177 average (25-for-141).

LF Delmon Young keeps rolling in runs for Detroit. Young blooped an RBI single to right-center in the first inning, when Detroit corralled both of its runs in a 2-1 victory over Minnesota. Young added a second single his next time up. He has 49 RBI in his last 80 games combined with the Twins and Tigers.

tigers need to pay young before the price goes up

I still hold no quarter for Leyland but I'll give him some credit for this stretch run. I think the Delmon trade really sparked this and the Fister move was equally as good if not better.

I'm loving this streak right now, but I really hope that the front office doesn't look at this final two months and decide that Young is worth a long extension and that Inge is okay as the starting third. And if either Ordonez or Guillen come back next year, I'll lose my mind.Of course if they were to pull off the miracle and win a WS, they could make Comer GM and I'd be okay with it.

Inge is under contract for next year so he will be back for sure, then he will probably be named manager after Leyland retires.

When the players are playing well the Tigers win. That's what I think.Do you believe with a different manager the Tigers would be playing at this pace since game 1? I have a feeling you credit wins to the players and losses to Leyland. It's a common tendency. It'd be entertaining if Leyland could blast fans after the team's success like the same fans blast him after every loss.

In comparison, the Tigers started their great 1984 year with a 22-3 run (and played .500 ball after that).

The Tigers started 35-5, and ended up 104-58. Thren went 7-1 in the post season. The Tigers played much better ball than .500 after that.
 
I make fun of Leyland's ever-changing random lineups and on occasion question some of his pitching moves, but he handles the players well and in general manages very well. I really have no idea why in years past the Tigers faded in the second half of the season, but it had little to do with Leyland. This year their mid-season moves were golden, in years past, not so much. The Tigers can beat anyone right now, let's just hope they can continue this magic through the post season. But that is a tall order.

 
Another big thing is he players absolutely love Leyland. If you are a good team and have the parts to compete and the players love the manager, that can be a recipe for success. The bottom line is the team has gone to a World Series, will win it's first divison since 1987 in a few days and have been in a pennant race in four of Leyland's six years (2007 is debatable I suppose). Guess what, prior to 2006 the Tigers had been in a pennant race really only once since 1987 (1991). They had five managers between Sparky and Leyland, ten losing seasons and five last place finishes during those ten years (although Randy Smith deserves a good deal of this blame).

I don't care if you don't like Leyland, the bottom line is that he's probably an above average manager and the team has been competitive for all but really one year during his tenure. I hate his line-ups, sometimes his pitching changes are strange and he is too loyal but this goes for a lot of managers. LaRussa has crazy line-ups, Joe Torre never seemed to make the right pitching change and Rod Gardenhire can't win a playoff game. I think those three are all very good managers. I think Bruce Bochy and Mike Scioscia are the two best but they make mistakes as well. Even though I got mad at Leyland this year early on I've never been a kill the coach kind of guy. I wanted Randy Smith out bad, and I wanted Trammell out too.

 
Impemba and Rod Allen are excited because the Indians are losing to the Rangers.

They are awful, I've always thought so and now I'm 100% sure I'm right. They are a big reason this team has quite a few really ignorant fans, they are a reflection of these two knobs.

Speaking for myself, I don't mind questioning line-ups or pitching changes, it's the tantrums and incessant demands that so-and-so be fired or sent down that drive me crazy. Ridiculous overreactions and criticisms, non-stop complaining, no credit given at any point. It took a 10 game winning streak for it to stop, and even now most people won't admit they were slightly wrong. Leyland still sucks--it's because of Young that the line-up is pouring runs across every game. Never mind that he has kept Peralta fresh, kept the bench involved, didn't give up on Raburn, let everybody settle into their role and didn't overreact to a slump or shuffle everything up after a loss. Leyland was why the Tigers slowed down in the second half. Not because of injuries or pitchers collapsing. LEYLAND. Now the Tigers are winning in spite of Leyland. It's a miracle!Hopefully the complaining is in the past and fans won't bash the guy if the Yankees or Red Sox loaded line-ups get hot against us, but I doubt it. I just hope most Tigers fans can realize things aren't so bad and enjoy this run, because it's been amazing and a lot of fun to watch.

I hope he proves me wrong but there is only one thing that could change my mind and it isn't this hot streak. Even during it there have been Leyland moments but he's also made some good moves to. Especially with Inge as weird as that is to say. I don't know why you would expect to change people's minds about him when all there has been is collapse after collapse. It is not unreasonable to dislike the man and I don't like him. I would also like to point out that it hasn't been the guys that don't like Leyland bringing it up right now rather than just enjoying the ride it's you and others who think they have to justify Leyland's employment right now. Just shut up and enjoy the playoffs dude.
 
Detroit equaled its longest winning streak since September 1968 at 11 games. Yankees and Red Sox take notice their's a new boss in town, called the red hot tigers
