***Officialish Detroit Tigers Thread*** (4 Viewers)

Longest win streak in 77 years. :pickle:  :boxing:

Leyland also owned Ozzie in that 9th inning with five pinch hitters in four batters. 13-5 vs the White Sux this year, awesome.

Just heard on Valenti and Foster they're 73-0 when leading after the 7th. I knew it was high because Valverde hasn't blown a save but that's absurd.

Reading through the play-by-play was crazy - PH, HR. PH, walk. PH, PH, HR. Then, yeah, Valverde strikes out the side. Couple ladies in my office are big Sox fans, and they cringe coming to work lately, though I've been kind. Don't need to add insult to injury.

Avila is the man.
AlexMuther F********AvilaParrish is proud. How many times has this kid proved that the tools are tools of ignorance, getting knocked around like a pinata and coming back with a homerun. And lets not forget that he is catching this staff and making it work.PeaceALEX I LOVE U

White Sox catcher A.J. Pierznyski calling the Tigers not only scary, but "the hottest team I've ever seen." A.J needs to buy a tiger t shirt :excited:

In a way I am glad Scherzer is cooling off. I want Fister to be our #2 starter come playoff time, with Detroit getting home field advantage. Fister has been pitching like a #1 man, which really makes the Tigers scary good going into the playoffs.

It doesn't matter who is number 2, at a minimum they will be operating with a three man rotation and both will pitch. I think Leyland is far more likley to base his #2 or #3 on which one he wants pitching at home and which one on the road. Personally, I think Scherzer should pitch at home, whether that is game 2 or 3.

Fister has pitched better at home games too. But look at the last 5 starts. Fister has gone 7 or more innings, only has allowed 3 runs total over that span, never more than 1. Fister has struck out 36 while walking only 4. He may be the hottest pitcher in baseball over the last month or so.

OAKLAND -- Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland said he believes everyone is a bit superstitious, even if they refuse to admit it.But Leyland is more than willing to admit it.He smoked a cigar at some point during the team's current winning streak and decided to smoke one every day until they lost. He had one in the ashtray in the visiting manager's office at the Oakland Coliseum. He also started wearing the same baseball socks every day at some point during the streak, along with another item of clothing.“I will wear these underwear until we lose,” Leyland said. “I can tell you that right now. And they will not be washed. And I don't give a (expletive) who knows it.”Leyland said his baseball socks have holes in them from being worn repeatedly. But he issued a warning to Tigers clubhouse manager Jim Schmakel.“I told Schmakel if somebody threw them out, that would be the end,” Leyland said.

I said this a a week ago, Scherzer is gonna pitch at home. I think that is about 90% sure to happen.Hopefully it's a game two, Indians didn't do the Tigers any favors by getting swept by the Rangers.

Delmon Young has nine home runs this season, five in his month with the Tigers. His batting average with Detroit is .306. Me see a big paycheck coming from the tigers for mr youg

Absolutely no ####### reason to bring in Valverde in the 9th. Let Fister finish.
Amen. Low pitch count and he is dominating. By the way, Fister's ERA has dropped under 3 in tonight's and he is now sitting at something like 6th place in the AL.

Grats Tigers fans. It's been a looong season over here, but I'm sure you guys enjoyed that ride.

Now go make the Central proud.

Impemba and Rod Allen are excited because the Indians are losing to the Rangers. They are awful, I've always thought so and now I'm 100% sure I'm right. They are a big reason this team has quite a few really ignorant fans, they are a reflection of these two knobs.
I like them, they're fans of the Tigers. I may not agree 100 percent of everything they say or even how they present it but there's no doubt they're loyal Tiger guys and they're OK in my book.

Gratz to the Tigers and Manager Jim Leyland on a great 2nd half of the season. They've played as well as anyone in the 2nd half of the season with a lot of arm chair managers questioning rotations, questioning batting lineups, questioning trades and the truth is, they've played outstanding baseball. There are a lot of fans in this thread and in Detroit that need to get off Leyland's back now that he's completed such an outstanding 2nd half of the regular season. Unfortunately, I doubt that happens and those same people will wait for some tough decision being made in the playoffs that may not go right and then they'll say, "see, I told you so."

This is your team, either support them for who they are 100 percent or not.

I look forward to playing the Phillies in the World Series, it'll be fun.

Fister is a beast. NOBODY wants to face the Tigers in the post season. The Verlander-Fister one-two punch is the best in baseball. The lineup is loaded top to bottom with people who can hurt you, and the bullpen has been lights out.

The Detroit Tigers are AL Central Division Champions.
Sounds good to me!!!Fister ERA under 3.00 ...look out Sabathia, he's gonna catch you. Rangers get shut out, so we increase the gap on them.
The Tigers' lead is actually 3 games because they hold the tie-breaker. I'm really pulling for home field in round one. Home field has been shown to not matter as much as in other sports but the Tigers always seem to play lousy in Fenway.

Guillen just pulled up lame and had to leave the game. No where near the ball and just making a motion towards a grounder fielded by Verlander

I hope he is ok, but I did not know we were paying Guillen $13 million. Take some of that money and give it to Fister next year. Guillen is 35 and constantly banged up, he should hang it up soon.

No mention of Verlander getting #24 today? 8 innings, three hits, no runs, 6 K's. 17 straight scoreless innings. Just another day at the office. And Valverde got #46. 3 games behind the Yankees and 1 game ahead of the Rangers for home field advantage.

It's all good! Interesting match-ups in the east. Yankees-Rays have seven games against each others. I won't waste brain cells trying to figure out what all could happen ...better that Detroit keeps winning some games and, hopefully, giving some guys some rest.Great job by Verlander again. 25 wins would be sweet ...26 and he'd be getting into some pretty rare air.
