***Officialish Detroit Tigers Thread*** (2 Viewers)

Given the mess with the wildcard playing either Boston or Tampa seems best because we will not be getting their #1 in games one or two. Then again both teams will be locked in to playoff baseball, which is nice for them. Still not gonna wish for anything in particular but I'm backing off not wanting Boston in particular. Really hurt the Angels lost yesterday, they have less to play for vs Texas now. They'd have to win all three, hope Boston loses all three and Tampa loses two. Slim to none chance there.
I read that Weaver is pitching on Wednesday. Could be bad for Texas, good for Detroit ...but 'bad' for Verlander. For the ERA title (and to deny JV the 'triple crown'), Weaver needs lines of no runs and 2 outs, 1 run and 5 innings, or 2 runs and 8 innings. Let's hope the Angels win 4-3. :D

Is there anyone pitching better than Fister right now?

Texas needs to start losing. Really want to be at home vs. Wild Card in round 1. Don't really care who it is, but probably better than going to Yankee Stadium in first round.

Nothing like a good Fister.

Mike Maroth named Lakeland Flying Tigers pitching coach for 2012. :hifive:

Love Mike, he was one of those guys who played well during all those really long years.

Miguel Cabera is good.
I think he stopped trying to blast home runs this year because of how many towering fly balls end up in fielders' gloves at Comerica. I think if he played in Texas, Boston or New York, where all of the "mvp candidates" collect their gaudy power numbers, he'd be sitting at around 40 bombs to go with the rest of his ridiculous numbers. Throwing out the uniforms and hype, to me Miggy is the best and most feared hitter in the AL.

Let's just say if you polled pitchers on who they would rather face with bases loaded between Miguel, Jose, or Curtis, I think most would rather take their chances with Curtis at the plate.

Well this sucks:@VictorRojas29: Garrett Richards will get the start Wednesday vs Texas in place of Jered Weaver.
At least it gives JV the pitching triple crown, for what it's worth. Ervin Santana is being sat down as well.
I could care less about Verlander's triple crown. Mike Scioscia and the Angels are a bunch of cockholes. Why would you not start Weaver? Oof.
I wonder if this goes back to the bad blood between the Tigers and Angels.

Well Scioscia just folded so the Yankees it is. I think they'll get a split but since I have zero confidence in Porcello, I really hope they can win both in New York.

I'll be at games three and four, so this is fairwell for awhile.

LET'S GO TIGERS

Gonzalez: 1-3 (stranded on-deck as the game ended)

Young: 2-5 (after starting with 2 hits)

Both stay at .338

Cabrera sitting pretty for the batting crown to go along with JV's triple crown.

Maybe Texas stumbles tonight ...

So if Detroit wins and Texas loses we get to host the wild card winner? Otherwise we hit the road?

About the only thing decided is NY plays at home and Texas and Detroit play somebody either at home or at NY.

Wow, Weaver is pitching tonight. At least there is a chance Texas goes down. Should be batting practice for Detroit tonight as Cleveland is pitching a rookie who has struggled. The odds are not as long as I expected.

I am liking Al Al a whole lot. Would like him take Coke's job who has done pretty good most of the time, but Al Al seems more consistent and better at getting out of jams.

Both games are tied. Liked our chances a lot better before Perry came in. At least him minimized the damage by only allowing one run.

....OK, Peralta going yard sure helps change things for the better.

As an aside, the home plate umpire tonight, Dan Bellino, is a former student of mine. He needed to finish his MBA, but was already umping in the minor leagues, so I designed an accounting class as an independent study for him.

Looks like it is off to New York....And probably Boston visiting Texas, unless New York blows their one run lead in the ninth.

09:40:08 [TRE] Sister Fister, oh the time has come

09:40:17 [TRE] And you know that you’re the only one

09:40:25 [TRE] To play, Yankees

09:40:46 [TRE] What you looking for

09:40:57 [TRE] You know these boys

09:41:13 [TRE] Don't want to hit against you, it's true

09:41:38 [TRE] You're THROWING STRIKES

09:42:04 [TRE] What's your DICE tonight?

09:42:40 [TRE] You're finding outs this night

09:44:19 [TRE] You'll win this fight, alright

"I wish all of them didn't do so well. It makes it look like anybody can manage this team." — Manager Jim Leyland, on his key players steering Detroit to a 95-win season. Great line by Jimmy

goodluck tigers vs the yankees, I think it favors the tigers, with the big v pitching twice to the yanks

ALDS position players: Avila, Betemit, Cabrera, Dirks, Inge, Jackson, Kelly, Martinez, Ordonez, Peralta, Raburn, Santiago, Santos, Young.

--

I still don't like this. Do you really need 11 pitchers in a 5 game series?

Any game where Perry or Penny pitches is a lose, but Leyland likes to sub a lot. Their biggest value will be to pitch in games which are out of control so you can save the other arms. Of course I would go with a 3 man starting rotation, so what do I know?

If we pitched Verlander and Fister each twice in a 5 game series, I think our chance of winning is about 70%. But if you throw Porcello in there, it is 50-50 at best. Porcello is not going to beat the Yankees. Probably will give up 5 runs in 5 innings.

Pretty sure I sat in front of a Tigers fan that was dumber than Comer last night. He said Peralta should be taken out of the game after he made an out in the 2nd, said Valverde was a choke artist and said the "Yankees were trying to win the game" when they put Robertson in.

Genius. He had a fat joke after every Sabathia pitch in the first two innings and I told him to simmer down and he did. What a tool.
