RHP Rick Porcello is in line for a hefty raise after turning down his contract option for this season. Porcello declined his $1.344 million option after learning he was eligible for arbitration a year early as a "Super Two" player. The 14-game winner likely will get more than $4 million based on past and projected arbitration figures.

Bump the tiger payroll a little higher

Pretty sure Porcello signed yesterday - around $3 mil IIRC

BREAKING: @Tigers announce that All-star Victor Martinez is likely out for the 2012 season with a torn ACL.
WTF? It's January!
Sounds like it wasn't a pickup game of basketball , at least. That really doesn't help the Tigers. Any chance they move on a bat in the trade market?According to MLB.com's Jason Beck, Victor Martinez suffered a torn ACL during winter conditioning and could miss the 2012 season if the injury requires surgery.

Absolutely brutal news for the Tigers. Martinez had a .330/.380/.470 batting line with 12 home runs and 103 RBI in 145 games last season as Detroit's primary designated hitter. He also started 26 games at catcher. The Tigers will struggle mightily to replace his offense but might try to get a little more active on the free agent market if the 33-year-old is indeed out for the year. Carlos Pena seems like a decent fit. Jan 17 - 3:26 PM

I was just scoping out the schedule earlier today happy that I was going to able to catch a couple home games on a business trip, but then get this horrible news. Wishing VMart a speedy recovery and hope for the best.

Trying to paint a good picture on this, at least they have a little time to do something.

And they could always add another move at the trading deadline.

Dmitri Young is looking to make a comeback, have the Young brothers in front and in back of Miggy.

I'd like him over Pena.
Vlad and sign the Cuban.
Vlad actually make a lot of sense. Should come relatively cheap on a one-year deal. Dude can still hit enough to give Cabrera a little protection.
Vlad never walks which is exactly what the team doesn't need. I think I would prefer Ibanez who is also a super duper locker room guy and then sign Cespedes.

Vlad may not walk but he makes contact. He's got a higher OBP than Ibanez and he's not as old....Ibanez will be 40 in June. I just think opposing pitchers/teams will respect Vlad batting behind Miggy much more than they would Ibanez.

It would be nice if Dombrowski would check into whether Ichiro could be acquired from Seattle. They are clearly rebuilding and he's in the last year of his deal. I understand that he's the main draw there but he may leave at the end of the year anyway as a FA. He'd fill a need at leadoff and could play RF. That would put Boesch in LF and Delmon could DH (and also stay out of butchering plays in the OF). It's all wishful thinking obviously but I'd rather have Dombrowski think out of the box than signing someone like a Damon or Vlad as DH. I don't want Cespedes either. Cubs are apparently real hot on him so let them sign him.

Forgot about somebody: Bobby ####### AbreuBetter than Vlad or Ibanez and one of the best eyes in the game.
And the Angels will gladly deliver him to you for a minor prospect and pay most of his $9 mil

The Tigers avoided arbitration with OF Delmon Young by agreeing to a one-year contract.

Young was a potential non-tender this winter after registering a disappointing .695 OPS in 124 games last season between Minnesota and Detroit. But the Tigers believe in his bat, and clearly think he can bounce back in 2012. The deal is worth $6.75 million.

Awfully quiet on the Tigers front. I am not really buying into any of the names being tossed around right now. I see DD going off the board and working a deal for a player no one has named yet. I would love to see a trade for an everyday OF.

As was mentioned before I believe, what about Emilio Bonifacio? DD has history with the Marlins and I'm not really sure they need him anymore. Reyes is obviously their new leadoff guy. He may not cost that much to trade for.

Jon Heyman is confirming - 9 years/$214 mm.

WOW.

WORLD SERIES MUTHER#######!!!

I was just joking with a buddy when discussing all this crap about Ibanez and the Lees of the baseball world and I said, "Prince or bust" half joking. Did not see this coming at all. Wow, just wow.

Illitch is 83, and wants a series title bad.

ALot of talking heads on radio claimed he wouldnt come based on the history of his father in detroit and him and Cecil being estranged and all.

millions of bucks will have a way of getting it done.

Where does this put Miggy this season, and beyond? Trading Martinez, and sticking with Cabrera and Prince at DH/1B?

Or do you see a move over to 3B for Cabrera?

line up:

Austin Jackson - CF

Brennan Boesch - LF

Prince Fielder - 1b

Miguel Cabrera - 3b

Delmon Young - DH

Alex Avila - C

Jhonny Peralta - SS

Ryan Rayburn - 2b

Don Kelley - RF

:excited:

No Inge!!!!!

Might as well move Cabrera to LF IMO. He's not a long-term option at 3B and VMART will DH next year. Have Cabrera re-learn the OF while platooning him with Delmon out there.

No chance Cabrera is playing 3B. He's too fat
who cares, when your gonna be scoring 10 runs a game, no need for defense, unless its hit right at ya, your not gonna get it at 3rd anyway

Cabrera had to sign off on this, guaranteed. They probably asked him if he was open to moving to the OF.

Who cares, this is a great problem to have.

@beckjason - Source says #Tigers approached Miguel Cabrera about Prince Fielder move. He was on board with it. So no Hanley comparisons, please.

This is so wrong on so many levels.
