Wow.

◦Tigers will send Ryan Raburn to Triple-A Toledo when Austin Jackson returns.
Looks like Berry has earned some time.
I was hoping for this.
It was the only possible move to make. I kept thinking that Raburn would get it going but it sure looks like he is lost at the plate. Leyland has given him more than enough chances to get through his slump but it is not happening. Berry has sparked the club and deserves to stay..too bad he can`t play some 2B.

Ryan Raburn's splits

2011

1st half213/248/360

2nd half 341/393/574

2010

1st half 208/287/350

2nd half 315/366/534

So far in 2012? 146/209/211. Yea, it's worse than usual but this is the 3rd year in a row he has started off slow and he's come back scorching after the All Star break. It's good we may have stumbled upon a hot bat to get him out of the lineup for a bit, I expect him to return with a vengance post break per usual.

Does Raburn have to pass through waivers to go to Toledo? I thought he did. I wouldn't be heartbroken if he had to and was claimed by another team, but I was just wondering if there is that risk by sending him down over someone with options like Worth.

I'll be glad to see Raburn go. Leyland's rant just shows how dumb the man really is. Nice word selection. Excuses are running low right now. It's a crap shoot on pitching if Verlander isn't on the mound and it's quite rediculous to see the kind of build this team is supposed to be to score 2 runs every game because the supporting cast can't take a walk.

He has one option left but it expires in July. So they can ship him down without losing him.I personally want them to keep him, when he gets hot he really is a very good hitter. Problem is he has these two month slumps while we wait for him to catch fire.Don Kelly is out of options and I guarantee you someone would claim him.

Santiago causally flipping that ball over to Peralta on a tailor-made dp that handed the Red Sox a run, sums up the season to this point. Red Sox have gotten a bunch of cheap hits but they have been patient and waited for the pitch they wanted to get their blop singles. Tigers get guys on first and second and they panic, a walk is out of the question because no one but Cabrera can trust the guy hitting behind them. Not trying to be gloomy either, just the facts of the situation.

Fielder can really, really hit though. He hasn't hit for the power that is expected but I think that will come and he never gets cheated at the plate. He is patient, will draw a walk and he hits the ball to the gap a ton.

Also do Red Sox players purposely have stupid batting stances? This Mike Aviles guy deserves a punch in the mouth for that circus at the plate.

For former Minnesota Twin Delmon Young, no plea deal in NYC case

Associated Press

NEW YORK -- Prosecutors are not offering a plea deal to Detroit Tigers outfielder Delmon Young, who is accused of making anti-Semitic remarks during a fight outside a New York hotel.

Young, who played for the Minnesota Twins from 2008 until being traded to the Tigers last summer, was briefly in a Manhattan court Tuesday, May 29, for an update on his misdemeanor hate-crime harassment case. A prosecutor says he isn't making any plea offer, at least for now.

Police say Young yelled anti-Jewish epithets at a group of tourists, got into a tussle and tackled one to the ground last month. The Tigers were in New York to play the Yankees.

Defense lawyer Daniel Ollen has said Young reacted to something said to him. Young has said he regrets what happened.

He declined to comment Tuesday. He's free on $5,000 bond and due back in court Aug. 2.

Update on Young, hope it works out for him

Another bright spot, I think we found our future closer. Villareal is nails and this bullpen should actually be good the rest of the year with him and Marte in the mix. No more Pukeonen please. :X

Raburn officially sent to Toledo. Hopefully he can get it going down there and return with his usual 2nd half.

No corresponding move announced. Makes me wonder if there is a trade in the works or possibly could involve someone not on the 40 man roster, meaning they have to remove someone.

I picked a fantastic time for a long weekend away, golfing with 3 good friends. After last night, I need a break from this team. They took a beat down from Ortiz, Gonzalez, a broken down Youkilis, and a bunch of cast offs from other teams last night with Verlander on the mound.

Would it kill this stupid offense to get up on a team once, giving their pitcher a wee bit of confidence? Putting way too much stress on their starters because the bad news bears can't put together decent innings but instead are going for the single season record for LOB.

Sharpton lives in New York, he should help Delmon out.

Tigers purchased the contract of C Omir Santos from Triple-A Toledo.Santos takes the spot of Ryan Raburn on the active roster and will serve as a third catcher behind Alex Avila and Gerald Laird. The 31-year-old owns a .656 OPS in the majors and can be ignored in fantasy leagues

I certainly don't understand this move.

Verlander (5-3) gave up 10 hits and five runs over six full frames despite fanning seven last night. Lets hope this was a fluke for the MVP. JV is the glue that holds the tigers together

I could understand it if Avila is getting run down already and they want to DH him more while having Laird catch in order to keep him fresh all season. But then I look at today's lineup and see Avila at C and Laird at DH. :wall:

Ah Jim Leyland. I'm sure there is some logic behind this and not him throwing darts at bench players to see who will be DH.

Leyland said that A-Dirk has an achilles injury and needs rest.

Has Delmon Young ever taken a first pitch? It is a joke now..no pitcher is going to give Young a strike on the first pitch.

The Tigers are being called "the biggest disgrace of the young baseball season."

And that's just by me!
As a Yankees/Lakers/Celtics/Browns/Devils/Whoevers winning/Bruins/Kings fan your opinion means a lot to me. Pretty sure we know this team sucks already, Einstein.

So he uses Dirks as a pinch hitter. Leyland is a moron. Inge, Raburn only one more jackass I want to see gone. I don't see what you see Jimmy.

I think he's in a bit of trouble right now. Dombrowski can't remain loyal for too much longer or he might be out also. But with Leyland I think he's more of a Mr I guy than a Dombrowski guy at this point, but I don't see how much longer this can go on. Still plenty of time to turn it around but they just don't really do much of anything well. Cabrera, Fielder and Verlander earn their money which is nice because those are your top three salaries, but the rest of the team is underachieving/lifeless with few exceptions. This is Leyland's seventh year, I think it's his last regardless of what happens with this team.

The Tigers don`t do enough well to put together 4-5 game streaks. Now with Fister out again..and this could be a lingering injury for the whole season it makes it even tougher. What I have been shocked by is that I never knew how bad Price was in the field. I thought he was an agile guy with soft hands..but he is a horrible first baseman. I am thinking when V-Mart comes back he should play 1B full time and DH Prince.

Pre-game on Saturday. Maggs to retire as a Tiger. The way things are going he should suit up.Maggs had some pretty good numbers considering he missed around 300 games due to injuries.http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/o/ordonma01.shtml
It's Sunday.. no??

Yes it is on Sunday.
:thumbup:Downtown Detroit is getting invaded by a bunch of us from the West side.. :gang1: I think total between adults and kids we have around 50 of us...

I had a feeling Prince would triple tonight.
You should have channeled that thought to Cabrera ...spare his legs from having to steal second. If Max could avoid the HRs (at least three games in a row), he'd be money. Still getting lots of Ks and pitching well ...but he keeps giving up a bomb or two.

His splits vs. lefties are staggering346/408/559 33:14 K:BBDefinitely don't start him vs. Cleveland next week

Granderson hit his fourth career grand slam last night vs the tigers. "He's been really important for us. He's been a great player," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said about Granderson. Grandy was a great player for the tigers and now he's doing great things for the Yankees.

Went to the game last night and the Tigers defense is really poor, they never seem to steal any runs from the opposing team. The Yanks took away a couple of runs with their defense and turned a nice DP to kill a potential rally, while the Tigers really do look like a softball team. Miggy almost overan an easy foul popup, Prince does nothing special in the field, every ball hit to Delmon is an adventure. That being said I thought Crosby got a raw deal on the Jeter AB in the second. Should have been out of the inning and that led to 5 runs.

Tigers manager Jim Leyland used eighth-inning reliever Joaquin Benoit to power out of a jam in the seventh and keep a 2-1 lead. Then he called on Octavio Dotel, who often works in the seventh, to guard the one-run lead in the eighth.

Leyland said Benoit suffered an injury to his forearm when he made an aborted pitch in the seventh. Benoit was already in his delivery when he saw that the plate umpire had called time out. He wound up firing the ball into the screen.

“I’m not looking to blame anybody,” Leyland said. “It’s just one of those things that happens.”

Leyland didn't speculate on what might be wrong with Benoit or if he would have to miss time. He said Benoit would have pitched the eighth if he hadn't hurt himself.
This is the last thing we need. Add to this that Valverde didn't look right. He isn't usually out of control wild like he was last night. Makes me wonder if he is healthy.

Valverde was hitting 94-95 so his velocity was there. Seems like he has lost command of his pitches..hit two batter and got a couple of good calls from the ump on pitches that looked to be balls.

Dam..Maggs looks great. Nice to see a class act like Maggs get his day.

On another note Mike Illitch looks horrible..one of the worst rugs I have ever seen. For being as rich as he is you would think he could get a decent rug..it looked like a Daniel Boone hat.
