Delmon should have hit it two feet further. Sorry, I'm never pulling Cabrera for a pinch runner unless it's an elimination game and the Tigers are down. Valverde was "unavailable" today, haven't heard why.
Via Dandy Dan: Over the past 38 games Tigers team ERA is 3.40. Tigers are 26-12 during that span.
Cleveland is 5-1 against us this year and this 9 game road trip is critical in the team continuing to head in the right direction. Cleveland, Toronto, Boston is not an easy trip. Then home for Cleveland, NYY and then a trip to Texas. Pretty brutal stretch, I'd say .500 would be more than acceptable.

this is the team we knew they could be.just need average to decent prodcution from the 2nd tier bunch of Boesch,Jhonny and Avila, sprinkle in QB and we should be good to go.I would like to think they add 1 arm to the rotation, but who knowsSWEEP!6-1 week against great competition, but they have to continue to play consistent baseball starting in Cleveland Tuesday. Pretty happy with this bunch right now, 13 of 15.

I think Infante coming to Detroit is a near certainty. For what he'd provide and for what he'd cost, and considering he plays for the Marlins, makes sense on every level.
A 3-4 type starting pitcher would make me feel better too. Don't need a stud. Just need a more accomplished arm to fill the five slot and protect against injury. Let Turner and Smyly go back down and have them ready to return if necessary.

Honestly, I would be surprised if Detroit didn't make a big move for a pitcher. Ilitch showed his desperation in the offseason with the Fielder signing, do you think he's any less desperate now? Yes they're on a winning streak right now, but rolling with this current roster may not be enough to get Detroit over the hump in the playoffs against the elite in the AL. Ilitch wants it bad.

Two best options seem to be Infante, Barney and Scutaro (Peralta shifted to 2B). Tigers aren't giving up Castellanos in a trade for the likes of Anibal Sanchez and Omar Infante but it may cost them a Crosby or Oliver. Personally I'd rather keep Crosby than Turner. Anibal is a free agent after the season and he's going to get a nice contract from someone. He has #2 stuff but is probably realistically a #3/4 starter long-term although he has his moments. I seriously don't mind bringing in guys like that and I think trading a pitching prospect to get Infante and Sanchez is a good plan. Gammons reporting we also gave up Rob Brantly. Ugh. Now I'm really leaning towards not liking it.Of course, fans always overrate their own prospects. So maybe I'm just too high on those guys.
I am not seeing any desperation for a pitcher as long as Smyly isn't hurt worse than we think. I doubt if anyone we get will be much of an improvement over Porcello. Shoot, Smyly and Turner are decent 4th or 5th guys right now and they will only get better. I just don't see paying much for a questionable upgrade. Now 2nd base is the place for the biggest improvement and we have a couple of unproductive roster spots. Would be great if they find the right situation.

Meh, like I said Tigers had two good catching prospects and Avila. We fill two immediate needs with one of our two best pitching prospects and a catcher we won't need. Sanchez is way more legit than Fister was, I think we paid the exact right amount.

I love it. We won a World Series 1984 by picking up Darrell Evans, yes we gave up a young John Smoltz but at the end of the day, He only got one ring out of his stint in Atlanta.Dombrowski just pushed all the chips across the table and is staring the Yankees and Rangers dead in the eye. Whoknew>I think your initial reaction is possibly right, we gave up quite a bit. But this team was two games away from the World Series last year, paid a boatload for Prince and had two glaring holes to fill. This trade upgrades not two but three positions. We upgrade the #4 starter Sanchez over Porcello, we upgrade the #5 starter Porcello over Turner/Smyly and we exponentially upgrade 2B with Infante. The 2B position has produced a .201 avg and a .580ish OPS this year, awful. Infante has good range, plays a multitude of other positions for flexibility and we have him next year as well.
Sanchez won't likely be back if he's good, he's gonna get a fat contract but so what. You have Smyly, Crosby, Rondon, Oliver, Paulino and Burgos in the system and another catching prospect in James McCann. Will Turner and Brantly turn out to be great? Yeah Turner might end up being a #3 starter and a good quality pitcher for a long time. But they Tigers have good righthanders on the team now and under contract for a few years, and they kept all the LH arms, among them Smyly who looks like a better short and maybe long-term option than Turner. Oliver needs more work but may work out and Crosby has a big arm and still learning the nuances of pitching.
We may look back and say, "what were we thinking" but Turner is no John Smoltz and even that deal made sense and still makes sense to this day. this franchise has to play for this year and next, and besides Castellanos, everyone in the sytem can be had for the right return IMO. My fear is the old man dies and they clean house, we are all living in "today" mode and given all we suffered for 15 years from teh early 90s to the middle of this decade...I'm all for it.

Kelly and Raburn are both out of options. I think we all want Raburn DFA but I think with Dirks coming back they may think it over. Kelly IMO is too valuable off the bench, he plays everywhere and plays everywhere well. Berry or Dirks would be the #4 OFer, they will probably consider keeping Raburn as a platoon with Dirks. But Berry has earned the right to stay so he has certainly forced their hand with a 1.079 OPS with RISP and the ability to win a game with speed.I think Raburn is DFA but Leyland loves him so maybe he talks Dombrowski out of it. We'll see by tomorrow afternoon.

Have to like that Tigers are serious about winning. Infante will be a huge upgrade. I personally was happy with the way our rotation was shaping up. Sanchez will be alright, but he won't be a Fister. A slight upgrade to Porcello, and maybe that was probably all we need. I would have rolled with Smyly/turner, but the infante part is impossible to argue.

Love the deal. Would have liked a lefty but teams don't let go of those too easily. Jacob Turner....who cares? Some here a little put out by Brantly. I don't know him but do know the Tigers have Avila.

I like the trade. We've been close enough that a better arm and a better bat/infielder probably would have brought us a few more wins so far this season. This should position us for the playoffs, and I like our chances there - particularly the short series.

I am expecting Worth to go to Toledo. It should be Raburn but he'll stick around. Who knows when Dirks will come back. He'll need a rehab assignment anyway. Raburn will likely be the casualty over Kelly then. Don isn't hitting worth a lick but can play defense. Raburn can't. Plus he got sent down earlier this year over Kelly. Even if he gets sent down he'll be right back up when the rosters expand

Hopefully Sanchez will feel at home right away with his Venezualan brothers Miggy, V-Mart, and Infante in Detroit. He doesn't have the best record against AL teams even though the sample size isn't that big. Toronto destroyed him earlier this year, Tampa took care of him, but he pitched pretty well against Cleveland.
I like that his career splits show he's better over the 2nd half and he's close to a K per 9.

I wouldn't be as concerned with his performance in specific games - he enduces a lot of ground balls, strikes guys out, doesn't have a walk problem, and can handle lefties - that's usually a recipe for a good pitcher. I'm more concerned about his shoulder than anything.
