Smyly in relief....hhmmmm
Don't understand doing this experiment at such a critical situation.
2 walks and a wild pitch. I liked the idea until he walked Wise which is pretty ridiculous. No problem with the Dunn at bat, he tried everything to get him out and Dunn worked him.
I would have just preferred a different time to bring him in for his first relief appearance. Smyly can give us some bullpen innings, I would have given him a few appearances in less critical situations first.

I hear ya man but they needed a lefthander there and no one wants to see Coke.

I was saying earlier how similar the Tigers and White Sox are. At one point a few weeks ago they were almost even in ERA and runs scored.

Starting pitching: Even, both have aces and great #2 pitchers. If Fister is right maybe a slight advantage Tigers but this is very close.

Bullpen: White Sox bullpen is shaky. Thornton, Myers, Reed all are questionable (I like Crain though). Advantage Tigers even though we have Phil Coke.

Fielding: Big advantage White Sox. We have the better CFer and probably the better catcher and that is it.

Line-up: Slight advantage White Sox because they take a walk and they hit more homers. But both teams seem inept an awful lot.

Manager: I don't know enough about Ventura but their manager doesn't refuse to fire Lloyd McClendon so advantage them

GM: I like ours a lot, Kenny Williams makes strange moves but they often work out really well. Tigers farm system a little better so nod to Dombrowski.

Stadium: Comerica is super awesome, no contest :goodposting:

Broadcast teams:

TV - As bad as I think Hawk is, Stone makes up for it and they are easily better than Mario and Rod :X

Radio - Dan Dickerson is very good, Jim Price is a homer. Ed Farmer and the other dude are just brutal. Tigers by a ways.

Fans: We win this easily. Only White Sox fan at the game tonight ate the other three (hope people saw that interview). Plus we average 14k more fans per game. :banned:

I give us an advantage with starting pitching. As I've mentioned, the Sox need to manage their young arms down the stretch (both Sale and Quintana have been mediocre/bad in their recent outings), and Floyd is now out again. We just rocked Peavy, and I'm not convinced he can go the distance strong.

I am really liking Garcia. Great speed and good

Glove. Really comfortable at the plate getting better at bats then most of the veterans.

Be up in the Detroit area for a couple weeks for a class. Already got my Lions tickets for next weekend. Going to hit the two night games with Oakland later the following week. Not the best timing for the number of games, but at least will get a couple in.

[understatement]Big game tonight[/understatement]
Yeah, it is a big game. But if the Tigers keep playing like pansies on the road, it won't matter. The Sox are not looking like a team that is going to collapse, so the Tigers are going to have to playing up to their potential and win the damn division. Don't want no part of the one game wild card play in crap.

Can we finally stop all the Delmon hate now? People were calling to cut him when trash like Boesch and Raburn were still on the roster. Guy is coming through big time down the stretch. He's gotta keep that moustache though - that's like a Larry Herndon special.

Wow this team is night and day between playing on the road vs. home. They need to keep it up vs. Cleveland. Valverde drives me nuts though.

As big as this sweep is, this series against Cleveland will show me just as much. The Indians are garbage. If the Tigers pounce and sweep, or at the very least take two of three, I'll know they're starting to surge and ready take this ####ing thing. If they revert back to how they played against the Royals they'll be squandering what they earned this weekend and it'll be tough to take them seriously.

Make no mistake--if the Tigers get into the playoffs, it will be Max Scherzer who carried this team on his back.

Although clearly Young carried the offense this weekend. Guy is playing for a contract next season with every ball he crushes. Works for me.

Not a hater, but what does Delmon do if VMart comes back?ETA: I guess they have given up on a VMart return. :kicksrock:

Not talking about next year. Demon is gone. I was referring to people wanting to cut him in June when slugs like Raburn, Kelly and Boesch were on the roster as well. Delmon isn't ideal but he's always been a better option on the roster than those other players. Hopefully he keeps it up.

need to get the Delmon Love in going

Alex is spanish for out. Avila is spanish for automatic. What the #### happened to him?

Don Kelly playing 1B. So glad the rosters have expanded so it gives Leyland more opportunity to tinker with the lineup. Raburn would probably be starting by now as well if he wasn't injured.

Nope. Still has a negative WAR, has a .665 OPS with RISP and his clutch stats are average. Interestingly though, he has a much better stat line when he plays LF instead of DH. Regardless he's at best an average player and on a team with a bunch of streaky hitters, he just doesn't fit. I did text Greco and some other friends this weekend telling him I had a Delmon fathead on order. It's hard to watch a position player be responsible for a loss almost on his own, but that really happened to Avila yesterday. Two unearned runs allowed, terrible at bats, base runners running wild for the Indians. Not sure why Leyland just doesn't sit him for four or five games, not sure what harm that would do. I mean he can't even hit it out of the infield right now and he's not good defensively either. You can't expect the pitching staff and guys like Porcello and Sanchez to be great every time they take the mound and they needed to win that game yesterday. Losing to the Royals in KC is one thing, losing to the Indians at home is quite another.

Five losses to Cleveland and KC by 1 run in the last 8 days. In four of those games, they scored two runs or less. :lmao:

They have a ten game road trip to LAA, CWS and Clev after tomorrow. We'll see what happens but I have no reason to believe they'll win the division based on what I've seen this year, and I'm usually one of the more optimistic fans.

Had to come off that White Sux sweep with a couple of wins before hitting the road, we never seemed to get it back together after the Boesch double play with the bases packed in the 1st yesterday. It just seems like we're missing a fire cracker in the everyday lineup. Once we hit a lull we can't get out of it, everyone sits back and just waits for someone else to do it. There isn't that springboard guy that everyone else just feeds off of. Miggy, Prince, and A Jax do their jobs, Dirks too when healthy. The rest just seem to go through the motions. Sometimes Delmon connects, more often than not he's a rally killer. Boesch too. Same with Peralta. And Avila's been a mess all year. Infante's an improvement over what was here but he's not a difference maker. We all hoped Berry would be the sparkplug, but he's just not a good enough player.I want to believe, but the team from the 2nd half of last year needs to find itself in the next 24 hours. If we go west on the hands of a sweep from the Tribe it's not going to get any better against the Angels.

The only good news is that the Sox' pitching is imploding (more than just the 18 runs they gave up last night).

A shame to throw away a couple of close games after the big sweep.

Tigers have been in this mode all year. As soon as they get in a groove for a couple games they revert to suckyness. May need the Sox to implode real good to take this division.

Was at the game last night and not sure if you could see it on tV but Miggy is really hurting bad..limping around and not smiling much anymore. Looks to be in severe pain with that ankle issue. Plus it looks like his weight has gone up since the start of the year.

Not sure he is going to get back to 100% this year..hopefully he can hang on.

And yet the manager starts Don Kelly at 1B and DH's the healthy Prince Fielder. Awesome.

Indians telecast didn't talk about it much but I noticed it on a few defensive plays - one Sunday Night too.

:goodposting: - exactly what I was going to say.

Jimenez with a five pitch seventh and hasn't walked anyone yet. How disgusting is that? Tigers have a team ERA of 2.94 over the last 24 games and are 12-12, just incredible. This team has the pitching to win it all but they are three hitters short. Next year VMART, a real corner OFer and maybe some youth to sprinkle in without Lloyd McClendon should fix that.

I want to see Garcia in the line up more. Been really impressed by him.

Great to see some hitting tonight. Damn, with the Tigers rotation, they should be winning 70 percent of their games down the strerch with any decent run support. Nice performance by Fister tonight.
