Prince crushed that ball.... Another great job by Max. If he did not have such a shaky first half of the season, he would be in the Cy Young discussion.
Agreed on both counts! I hope to see JV in top form tonight. If we win this and tie it back up, I believe we'll win the division.
I'm waiting for Sunday to make that declaration, play well when the spotlight is on us but we're on the road against the Indians. Wary we revert back to going through the motions again, have to see us squash an inferior opponent.

Exactly.

I am assuming this is the upcoming rotation:

Verlander vs. Sox 13th

Sanchez vs.. Cle 14th

Porcello vs. Cle 15th

Fister vs. Cle 16th

OFF

Max vs. Oak 18th

Verlander vs. Oak 19th

Sanchez vs. Oak 20th

Not really an opportunity to skip Porcello, and he has been pitching fairly well. I am going to the game on the 19th, and seriously thinking about the 18th.

Game postponed, they'll play the make-up on Monday which sucks for the Tigers because they were going in the right direction and now have to go back to Chicago instead of getting a off day at home.

Fister v Peavy would be the pitching match-up although the Tigers could go Scherzer instead since he'll be on normal rest.

ETA: Sux twitter says it will be Floyd on Monday, not Peavy.

Not a good sign to arrive 20 minutes before game time and see the tarp ready to roll along the 3rd baseline. :kicksrock:
Do you get to go back for Monday's game?
The tickets are still good ...I just need to break away from work. That might be a "game time decision."Now let's go win the weekend series.--Since the all-star game:Detroit starters' ERA - 3.55 (Fister, 2.49, Max, 2.61, JV, 3.48, Sanchez, 4.40, Porcello, 4.77)Chicago starters' ERA - 4.65 (Sale, 3.93, Peavy, 3.96, Floyd, 4.73, Quintana, 4.82, Liriano, 5.81)Detroit batting avg. - .267 (and 248 runs)Chicago batting avg. - .252 (and 257 runs)All those one-run losses have killed us.

Look at the schedule, if the Tigers do not win the division, they are a bunch of pansies and don't deserve to be in the playoffs. The only series with a contender is Oakland. Painful season to watch, but they should make it to the playoffs.

Hopefully Fister can take care of the White Sox on Monday.

I'd commented recently about Porcello at that 90 pitch level. Interesting stats -

Porcello ERA for innings 1-3: 4.06, 4-6: 4.73, 7-9: 7.84!

In comparison, for Max it's 4.47, 3.35, 1.84. He had some early games where he couldn't get untracked early on.

For Verlander, numbers are 3.20, 2.64, 2.33.

Opponent BA each time through the order:

Porcello: .276, .296, .360, .500

Max's #'s: .240, .240, .278, .200

For JV it's: .205, .254, .194, .194

Overall, Porcello has averaged about 93 pitches per outing. Stretching him long just doesn't pay off.

Sox are not making this easy. The Monday game is huge. With Sanchez starting to pitch well, the starting rotation is outstanding. Tigers should have the advantage, but the sox are playing well.

Be at both Tuesday and Wednesday games just behind the Tigers dugout. Still haven't seen an official announcement, but I assume Justin will be on the mound Wednesday. Hopefully we will be tied for first going into those games.

And now Avila is knocked out of the game (literally) on a catchable pop up right in front of the Tigers dugout that no one called for. What a stupid team.

Three close calls at first base, umpire just killing them on top of everything else.

Worst first base umpiring ever? Three close calls at first, all called out and two safe against the Tigers. Then he doesn't get the fair ball right for the Indians that would have tied it up. Incredible.

Valverde meltdown, oof.

Fister was exceptional tonight, really not sure why he didn't start the 8th.
Let's go back to this for a minute. Had Leyland not overmanaged and left Fister in he might have never needed Benoit or Fister in that game on Tuesday. On Wednesday he calls in Beniot with two on and the Tigers up 8-1. Why? So Benoit ended pitching in four of five games, Valverde five in six and he won't be available tomorrow. Smyly showed today he can be trusted and you can use Villarreal for multiple innings. Leyland lost the game today, period.

:goodposting: I don't like the idea of having a pitcher give two intentional walks, which fills the bases, and then get back to throwing strikes. It just seems you've changed the pitcher's rhythm, especially with back to back walks. FUBAR

just a goddawful game from the 4th on. Local hs varsity baseball team would have had better at bats than the Tigers in the bottom of the eighth.

If you guys want to show up against Oakland, that would be great.
We'll do what we can. 10 games at home: We probably need to win 8 of them and see if the Sox stumble/feel the heat.
If the Sox go 8-8 the Tigers need to go 11-5 to tie. Sox go 9-7 Tigers need to go 12-4 to tie and so on. Does not look good at all.Bottom line is the Tigers are 9-15 against Seattle and Cleveland this season. Make that 12-12 and we are tied. Turn it to the Tigers 15-9 and we have a nice lead. Have to win series against the worst teams in baseball.

Don't listen to this guy. Now would be a great time for you guys to roll out your young guys and get them prepared for next year. Rest the studs. :football: :boxing: Tonight's game doesn't look good for Oakland. Scherzer has been absolutely dominating for you guys since that first month. He's really good at striking people out and Oakland has fled from the Moneyball approach and swings at everything. One question for Detroit fans - is your manager the modest type or do you guys really not use advance scouting? A quote from Leyland caught my eye. Seems highly unusual if they really don't do it.
Tigers manager Jim Leyland said on Monday that his club normally doesn't use advance scouts but has been sending a couple of people to watch the A's "for a while." Leyland also has made some phone calls to gather information.

You can't do this. Sox have played bad baseball against the likes of the Royals and others. If they won 3 more against them Detroit would be 6 back, etc.

Top 5 reasons Detroit will not be in the playoffs:

1. Defense. Just terrible. Every game there seems to be at least one error and a couple other plays they should have made

2. Hitting. Outside the big three, the rest of the team is disappointing to say the least when it comes to getting key hits.

3. Leyland. Not sure what he is thinking at times and does not have a good coaching staff.

4. Valverde. Blowing too many saves.

5. Team Leadership. Somebody needed to be kicking their teammates in the butt.

The Prince Fielder signing is going to hurt the defense for years to come. Miggy turned into a very good first baseman..much better than Prince but as we see Miggy is a lower tier third baseman. In fact is there an everyday third baseman worse than Miggy? Prince has been solid at the plate but defense is going to be the achilles heel of this team for some time to come.
