Ole Miss/SEC homers? (1 Viewer)

posted this in the FFA and got ignored (12 views, 0 replies before hitting page 3) so I figured I'd give it a shot here...

Just got finished "The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game" by Michael Lewis ("Moneyball"). I reall enjoyed the book, which weaves together the story of Michael Oher, a then high-school OL and the story of the elevation of the NFL left tackle to a position of importance.

The was written after Oher's freshman season at Ole Miss. After doing some googling to see how Oher has progressed I mostly just saw generic profile pages or pages from when he was being recruited.

Just wondering if anyone here follows Ole Miss football and can tell me what kind of 2006 season Oher had. From all accounts during his freshman year he was pegged as a future 1st rounder. Did he build on this reputation this past season? Did he regress?

Oh, and has anyone else read the book?

read the book while on vacation in costa rica, really enjoyed it.

i too came back and looked for more info on the kid but couldnt find much

He was a freshman ALL American at Guard last year and moved to LT this season. He's a beast, and much like Phil Fulmer, I'm a little sorry to see him in Red and Blue.

He'll be blocking again for Brent Shaeffer (sp) next year, followed by non-competer Jevan Snead the next season. It's VERY early to tell what his pro prospects are like, but so far, it's looking good. He'll be no worse then a Pre-Season 2nd team All SEC and may make 1st team.

As a senior, barring injury or severe decline in performance, he should enter the season with a first day grade.

And yes, excellent book.

Can this kid go #1 overall?By that, I mean is he good enough to be the top guy?
I doubt it. He is good enough to pass Jake Long though. Long is a better player right now, but Oher has silly upside.
Well if he's good enough to pass Jake Long, then he has as much of a chance as anyone to go #1, right?
Perhaps. I'd say that Dorsey is still the best candidate for 1.01, especially if Miami keeps the pick.

I read the book and to me he would have a fair amount of character issues that would keep him from going #1 overall. Not that he's a criminal or anything but he comes from a lot of instability. He is supposed to be a Pace, Ogden, Walter Jones kind of upside/talent guy but I would think has a lot of questions surrounding him.

The book is two, almost three, years old now right? I'd say he's probably grown up a lot since then.

The book definitely has added to my enjoyment of watching football.

As for Moneyball, it has made baseball tolerable in small doses.

:football:He's been nothing but a model citizen since he was 17. No one has anything bad to say about the kid except that the first 16 years of his life were a mess.

Completely unrelated question, Colin, but where did that sig come from? Who went ape####? Dare I ask what thread that was in?

One where I mentioned that it was a shame so many lives, including the murderers, were ruined in the Sean Taylor incident. Someone took exception to my comments.

I'd be more concerned about his learning deficiencies affecting his ability to learn complex offenses, but my impression is that playing LT would limit a lot of those problems for him. The book talked about how he was a more visual learner (as opposed to verbal), so it will be interesting to see how his pro team's coaching staff handles him.

Ah. That person was a Redskins fan likely. Completely explains it. Say no more.
Can we argue that New Orleans got what was coming to it in Katrina as a below-sea-level city, or should I wait another year for that?
