fielding percentage is rather overrated imo. It does not take into account range, and arm strength. A guy like Johnny Peralta can't get to a ball hit 10 feet to his left but isn't given an error when it dribbles through for a hit, while Jose Reyes can make it 20 feet to his left, make a routine backhand play, and then throw a cannon shot over to first to try to get someone out, but pull the first baseman off the bag and is given an error. Not to take anything away from Vizquel, but fielding percentage only tells part of the story.

I'm not a huge fan of voting a guy like Omar in with his offensive numbers, but he's still the best defensive SS I've seen since Smith, and he's in his 40's. If its possible to go into the Hall for defense, Omar has to be in.

Here's a LINK to all multiple Gold Glove winners. On the surface, it does not appear that being a great fielder in and of itself gets someone into the HOF (although it does appear to be a plus for good hitters that could also field).

And it looks like Darin Erstad is the only player to win a Gold Glove at two positions.

Did Tim McCarver really say that Omar Vizquel saves over 100 runs per season with his glove?

Man he's a moron.
