One Hundred Pushups (1 Viewer)

Man, W6D1 is kicking my butt. For the 2nd time in a row I couldn't complete it. Today I did 56/45/42 and then just 25 of the remaining set of 40. But, since I did the first three sets that totaled 153 with just two 60 sec breaks, I'm still gaining confidence that I'll be able to knock out 100 in a row.

W5, D2 last night. Stayed tight on the 60 second breaks. I didn't have the exact schedule in front of me, and ended up at:

30, 25, 25, 20, 20, 15, 15, 43 (193 total)

I started this exercise being able to only do 4 pushups, max. I can now do 52.

Because of this I'm now thinking of joining the UFC and MMA.

W5, D3 ...20, 20, 17, 17, 14, 14, 13, 60 (175)

End-of-week test tonight, probably.

eta: Tested out at 80.

On to week six. :shudder:

Finally I finished W6D1, but it took me 4 tries. Today I knocked out 56/45/42/40/65. But, I kinda cheated between the last set and then the max. My arms were totally drained so I ran a mile and then knocked off the 65.

I know there is probably some "purpose" with how dramatically things change from week 4 to week 5, but I just failed W5/D1 for the second time. I really wasn't having that much trouble up until week 5, and now I'm borderline "the guy the trainer's feel they need to watch to make sure I don't hurt myself." Sucks.

Bigfun, I struggled with W5D1, too. I think I finally got through it on my 3rd or 4th attempt. Of course, it didn't help that I was on vacation that week at an all-inclusive and was abusing my body unmercifully :lmao: I also struggled with W6D1 but finally got through it after several failed attempts. So, my advice is to just hang in there. There is no way I can do this in just 6 weeks. I think I'm already into week 7 or 8 and I've been very committed. After I finish this I'm thinking of trying some sort of pullup challenge but I'm not sure what the target should be. Maybe 30?

I'm starting back up this week after screwing my shoulder up. Going to start by re-doing week 2.

Completed W4 D1 and D2. Today (D2) was the first time since W2 timeframe that I pushed through with little struggle. Hopefully, a harbinger of things to come, although, with W5 on the horizon, not bloody likely:)

I started out with a max of 10.

After 7 weeks I did 59. I had a bet and that was my deadline.

I could not get through the workouts suggested for week 5, so I kept repeating as best as possible. This did get me motivated to continue doing 3 sets every other day. I will begin at 25 then increase slowly when I can finish the 25 on the last set.

W6, D1 ...wadda ya know, I got through it (tho' with 90 second rests).

56, 45, 42, 40, 59 (242 total)

Woof. It helped on the last one to mentally break it down (get through 25, then the next 20, then try for 15).

spent 3 weeks on W4. alto i only did one day of W4.2. reading the responses of those on W5, im scurd.

will do the max test Sunday and start W5...

max - 31. looks like i just made the cut for the first column.

Well boys, I hit 100 today!

But, it wasn't a pretty sight. The first 50 were a breeze, the next 20 were a little bit of a struggle, the next 20 were definitely a strain, and the final 10 were a complete #####. When I hit 95 I started thinking about how funny it would be if I hit 99 and couldn't continue. And wouldn't you know it, at 99 my arms were trembling so badly that I actually did hit the mat before I did that final one. So, I'm not sure if it officially counts at 100, but I'll take it anyway.

And, when I went to fill out the google doc I noticed that I forgot to do W6D3. Maybe that's another reason my 100 might not be legit.

Anyway, I'm going to do my final test again when I'm in Vegas this week for the WCOFF and FFPC drafts. Good luck to the rest of you.

Just got started and I'm embarrassed at how far I've dropped since my Marine Corps days. But after two days I am already sensing progress, so I am intending to go as far as possible. At this point, if I hit 50 in the future I will be very pleased.

well done.

W5, D1 kicked my ### as expected. Sure the Labor Day partying did not help, as I was pretty beat before even starting. Likely to spend a couple of weeks here at least, but will keep pushing.

Question to those doing this:

My right shoulder is a bit week currently, will the strain of the push ups be harmful to the shoulder?

Just curious what your opinions are. I pitch softball two nights and bowl one, so I am looking at ways to strengthen the shoulder a bit and think this may help, along with flatten the stomach a bit too.

Let me know your thoughts

Thanks all!

I don't think they'd be harmful - just do them carefully (don't lunge up and down), and don't push too hard. The push-ups do help with overall toning, I'd say.Congrats, Inv Sky, for getting to 100!I had my first failure on W6, D2:30 x 2, 25 x 4, 23, 22 ..then 50. (255 total)Supposed to reach 56 on the last. I'll give it another shot on Friday.

failed twice on W5D1. could not pass the 2nd set. noticed i was drained after the first set. will keep at it until i pass W5D1...however long that takes...

W5, D1...failed on 2nd try, but overall increase from first attempt, so I got that goin' for me:)

Took me 3 weeks to push through W3, so guessing it will be the same here.

I made it through W6, D2 on my second attempt a couple days ago:

30 x 2, 25 x 4, 23, 22 ...60 (265 total).

W6, D3 tonight.

Question about the exhaustion test at the end of Week 2- are you supposed to do it after your last set is completely through, or does the exhaustion test actuallyreplace the "Max" part of your last set?

Holy crap, the progress in here is really impressive. I feel like a loser for giving up on it, but this is getting me amped to give it another shot.

Question -- are you folks who did it seeing great benefits other than just the chest strength? Are you looking much fitter? Chest/arms bigger/more toned? Any other benefits?

Sell me on this.

W5, D1 failed for third time. I keep making incrementatl improvement, but really feel like I am plateauing. Did anyone else take this long to get through this or am I the one dope pushing forward? :)

100! Twice, actually. Did 100 on Monday night (and, then, another set of 50), but didn't trust my count ...so did it again last night. Huh.

Alright I am going to start doing this, in a drunken stupor I did 46 half-assed pushups and my biceps hurt for days.

.Reinvigorated for the good fight in weight loss 2009.
I'm thinking of doing this again as well. I think I made it to week 3 and didn't have any failures, but then went on vacation and completely abandoned it.
What are the rules here?
Follow the steps on the hundredpushups.com website, week by week. Track your progress with the Google app in the first post. After you finish you get to move on to the Calvinball tourney.

That Google App ..."Lowen1 - Week 1, Day 1 - 10/10/8/2/quit". FBG of the Year.

Not too sure if I'll be able to hit 100 consecutive pushups; even after eight weeks of Basic Training I was only doing about 50 and I am much more doughy nearly twenty years later. I'll give it a go though.

OK, I am in.

I did 21 for my initial test alst night. I have a couple of questions:

-Based on doing 21, do I move to Week 3?

-What do I do if I can't complete W3 D1?....do I repeat the day until I master it?

I would start Week 1, Column 3.
