OnePlus Android Phone (1 Viewer)

great looking phone, but a pass for me.

I'll have mine within the next couple of days, finally got an invite last week. I'll report back if I find anything too craptacular or amazing.

Went to the gym this morning (look, I work out!) and ran Pandora and my workout tracker. By the time I got home my phone was at 65% and we were just headed out for the day. Popped a spare battery in my pocket (could have also just popped it in the phone) and never had to worry about not using my phone too much all day long.

I use a ski tracker app while I'm skiing. Tracks where I've gone, how fast, slope angle, etc. Everyone that I show it to thinks it's awesome, yet I've never been out with one of them that didn't have to shut it off half way through the day so they wouldn't have a dead battery by 4pm. I haven't had a problem. When my phone is 4% at the end of the day and we're headed out for apres, just pop in a new battery and it's like 7am as far as my battery life is concerned.

Multi day camping or backpacking trips with expensive, cumbersome solar charging stations that rarely ever work? No thanks, 3 batteries in my bag and I'm good for the whole trip.

I also have never had to be one of those neanderthals on the floor crowded around a plug in the airport since I got a phone with a spare battery.

But best of all is that I just never have to worry about it. I can play games, browse heavily while waiting at the doctor's office, etc and I never have to think "hmmm, maybe I should cut this back so I don't run out of juice before the day ends". That's not even to mention that this is android we're talking about here, where it's not uncommon for some rogue background app to suck up 40% of your battery in an hour before you notice.

I'll never go back.
Droid Maxx user (came from a Nexus and numerous other androids) and love it for the opposite of this reason. No longer have to carry anything other than the phone. I can run it hard all day and still have a ton of battery left. My battery is currently at 46% and hasn't charged in 22 hours and I use is constantly. I can't see myself ever going back to a phone that doesnt have outstanding battery life.
:goodposting: I use my Maxx heavy all day and it is still at 35% when I plug it in at night. My wife and I both have 1 and both heavy users. She is a heavier user than I so she carries around a portable charger for the times she forgets to plug it in at night and runs low. The charger is not much bigger than a spare battery would be and she can get 2 charges out of it before it has to be recharged.

I've had the One Plus One for several weeks now and love this device. The good battery life and the ability to fully charge in 1.5 hours makes me not mind not having a removable battery. I'm looking forward to the bamboo back cover when it becomes available.

No extra invites left, but they just started another marketing promotion where they're giving away 10k invites, so it continues to be easier to get a hold of one.

I received an invite a couple weeks ago but was on vacation and didn't check my email for a couple days and it expired after 24 hours. :wall:

I've had mine for just over a month, and absolutely love it. The OS is smooth, and by far the fastest I've had. The size is just right, and never having to worry about memory is another bonus. All of that said, what I appreciate the most is the amazing battery life. I never have to worry about it, i.e. I charge it before going to bed, and I've never had an issue of it lasting the whole next day.

Anyone around with an invite to give in the next 45 mins? After that I'm gonna be without internet for about 14 hours, but if an unused invite will be expiring before then, I'd be all in...

Sorry guys -- I'm still waiting on T-Mobile to send me a freaking SIM card. No idea what the delay is. So I haven't used it but for a couple hours around the house. Quick first impressions:

Fit and finish of this hardware are beautiful. I love the grey stone textured back. So different and feels great. Materials feel high quality--definitely feels like nicest hardware I've ever owned. It also feels thinner and lighter and easier to handle than the Note 3, not sure if the specs bear that out or if it's just a shape thing.

I love the basic Cyanogen Android. My Note 3 is nice, but all the Samsung bloatware can be a little annoying. I really like this software much better, and that includes for things like the phone software and the camera software.

Screen isn't quite as nice as on the Note 3. It's a little more washed out looking. Samsung is a screen maker, this doesn't stun me. But it's nothing I would ever notice in a vacuum; it's just having them side by side, and that's without adjusting any display properties on the OnePlus yet.

Overall, really impressed.

Pretty much. People like Otis see a shiny new device, only to have CyanMod 11 which most who have an unlocked bootloader can get. I doubt he even knows what Xposed framework is, and how that can make a 2 year device just as new and even more cutting edge than the latest Otis device fetish.

Exactly. You realize that Android is now optimized for even single core devices now, don't you?

Have fun for the next 3 months with that device.

It's awesome. Here is the page on XDA:

BTW, if anybody has root, this launcher is a must have. I have been using it since it came out:

The pointer function is great for large screens.

A few Xposed modules I use are for battery life. Wakelocks and such. My device has been uncharged for 14 hours (albeit with moderate use) and it has over 70% battery left. Deep sleep control is what I use, doesn't take any functionality away, and Xposed also has modules for extra and serious security.

I think the OnePlus is a nice device (and will look into it once my GS3 goes off contract) but seriously, devs are doing a lot to make older devices fly and work just like they were brand new, being that again the Linux kernel should be able to run older devices with older hardware. That's why you buy into Android, not for the hardware, but for the kernel.

you should check out Hulk's thread. Being on a contract is a bad move for just about every person out there
Oh yeah, I'm never getting into a contract again, especially with Verizon, and especially with a Samsung device, which I will never buy again. I'm going unlocked, pure Android, off contract this time. The latest OTA KK update locked the bootloader down to where I can't future proof it anymore (although I still rooted it and can modify the build.prop when needed), and even the access to the external SD card has been borked to where an Xposed module fixed that giving me my permissions back.

I understand why (security and Samsung/Verizon wanting to enter the enterprise market big time), but I want full control of my device, wanting to get it's full value with the latest of what Android has to offer, and to not have carrier control over such issues. Props to HULK for that thread. Gonna be very useful in the coming months.

One more tip: if you are rooted (and you should be), here is a great Repo and app for Android:

https://f-droid.org/

I use the old Ad-Away app, and have no ads on any apps that support them. It even has CyanMod apps for those who don't have CyanMod. Your welcome.

I have 12 "smart" phones currently under contract with verizon and another 24 "flip" phones, any idea what the cost would be to take the smart phones off contract?

I have no idea. Are your devices for your business? Even so, I couldn't answer that.

Yes business phones mostly but mine and a few others are also used as personal phones.

Yeah, that's a question as far as rates and packages left better for someone who deals with that. One thing to consider is security though. If say you instituted a BYOD sort of policy, and you transferred sensitive information, it may be better for you to have the user have less control over the device. The latest KitKat OTA that I found for my GS3 had this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Security-Enhanced_Linux

I imagine this makes it easier for IT guys, and makes Android more attractive to enterprise and the military. For business, yeah, I take security more than price point, because a lax of security is ultimately more expensive. So bear that in mind when choosing a package for your business.

You should probably PM me. I can figure this out.

Where is the thread?

I am grandfathered in on an old ATT unlimited data plan with an old corporate discount for about $75/month after taxes and whatnot. Can I do better?

I'm still really loving this phone. Got an invite and want to return the favor to someone here. First to PM me gets it.

One invite sent to moops. I may have two more; the interface is screwy, I can't tell whether I had 3 invites or it's just a repeat of one. Let's see what happens. In any event, if two more people want to PM me, and send me your e-mail address, I'll hold these for you and send them out if in fact they are real.

I waiting to see what the new Nexus will be. If it is a 6 incher like the rumors say, I'll be hoping on this train.
