Opponents rush rank vs points allowed (1 Viewer)

When trying to decide some tough RB match ups this week I noticed quite a difference in the rankings of opponents rank vs rush and points allowed to RB's on MFL (My Fantasy League PPR).

Two examples I was trying to decide between Leshoure & Moreno:

Leshoure plays the Colts Defense- many think is a good matchup vs the run

Ranked 20th vs run but the toughest defense the last 6 weeks in points allowed to RB's

Moreno plays the Bucs defense- many say you can not run on

Ranked 1st vs run but the 6th easiest defense the last 6 weeks in points allowed to RB's

So my point is do not always go by rank of rush defense when trying to decide on starters in fantasy football. I chose 6 weeks to provide enough data and more of a recent trend vs the entire season.

So are both sets of stats from the last 6 weeks? Or just the fantasy points against is 5-6 games and rank against rush is 11 games?

Just the fantasy points against, I do not see where MFL has the option of rank vs rush other than the whole season.IMO FF points against in more recent weeks is a better tool to use than rush defense for the entire year.

Well... I'll grant that there are times one can certainly say, "This is a quick look, it's not perfectly done, but it is close enough to suit my own purposes."But this is a situation I wouldn't have as much faith I could draw something meaningful without making the two data sets more similar.

You can always go to http://www.pro-football-reference.com/ and use the stat tools under Play Index to rank teams for the season by rushing yards, over whichever spread of weeks you want. (Though you need to convert it to yards per game of course because of bye weeks).

Edit: Actually, you can filter by Game number instead of by week, so everyone will have played the same number of games in the data set.

Actually, here's a quick comparison to show what I mean. Here's the difference in rank vs rush for full season vs just the last 6 games (not counting last night's TNF game):

Tm Rk1-11 Rk6-11 DiffSEA 12 30 -18MIA 7 22 -15CHI 8 20 -12MIN 15 27 -12DET 21 31 -10NWE 10 17 -7PHI 18 25 -7ARI 23 28 -5SFO 4 9 -5OAK 28 32 -4SDG 6 10 -4WAS 3 6 -3DAL 13 15 -2HOU 2 4 -2TAM 1 2 -1BAL 26 26 0KAN 24 24 0NYG 16 16 0PIT 5 3 2CIN 17 14 3NOR 32 29 3STL 14 11 3CAR 25 21 4GNB 11 7 4BUF 31 23 8DEN 9 1 8TEN 27 18 9ATL 22 12 10CLE 19 8 11NYJ 30 19 11IND 20 5 15JAX 29 13 16
You can see some teams have extreme numbers of spots in the rankings. Seattle was 12th best against the run over the whole year, but is 30th over their last 6 games, for a change in 18 spots in the rankings. Nearly a third of the league changed by 10 ranking spots or more depending on which data set you use.

Man you've got some great info here! In the words of the Joker, "where does he get those wonderful toys?" Have you by chance found who has the weakest rushing SOS for the next 4 games based on the past 6 game performances by those defenses? I'd have to image the Ravens have the hardest playing the Steelers, Redskins, and Broncos (#1, #3, and #6) over their next 3 games.

So where does someone find points allowed by position rankings?

I looked in a MFL and could't figure out how to sort defense by points allowed at a given position (yeah, I'm that challenged). There has to be a site that does this kind of ranking.

PFR has some great search tools. Can't to everything I'd like (can't handle consecutive games or some things like that), but you can often get at what you need pretty easily once you play with them a bit.

What you're asking for in particular though, FBG has as part of our normal content. You can either go into the weekly content and look at the Ultimate Strength of Schedule, which will show you strength of schedule based on fantasy points allowed to the position...

Or perhaps even better, is just go into your MyFBG page. If you have your league parameters set up in MyFBG, there is an option to a customized strength of schedule that does the same, but it uses your own league's scoring setup to generate it.

And on MFL, it's Reports -> League -> Points Allowed per Position
