Gonna hit this potato diet after new years. But, I think I am going to eat fruit and vegetables instead of potatoes. I might even drink them instead of actually eating them.
I was thinking of doing a juice fast, except instead of drinking fruit and vegetable juice, I'm going to eat potatoes.

anyone ever try to juice a potato? Betting the pounds would fly off if you went that route.
Raw potato juice is really good, actually. Not straight. You have to add some lemon and honey or whatever. But juice from a raw potato has all kinds of good stuff in it, including all the resistant starch (unless you really strain it very finely).

I'm game.  Weigh in on January 1, and we go from there until when? 3 months?  I'd be at a real disadvantage if we go much longer than that, because 8-10lbs a month is doable, but if we were to go say 6 months, I don't have 50-60 lbs to lose, unless I were going full Bale a la The Machinist.  Some really really fat dude could still be clocking 60lbs of weight loss by then and I'd have no prayer.

So January 1, final weigh-in the morning of April Fool's Day?  Who's in?

I'll hold the $100 from each participant, pay out the winnings, and will arbitrate any dispute.  Unlike cstu, my body of work here is easily worth a few hundred, or even few thousand, OBux(tm).

Whatever you guys want. % of weight is fine with me.
I think it needs to be % of weight.  I'll probably come in around 215 when I weigh in so couldnt really do the pounds thing.  (Unless we are all somewhat around there?) Can we do Jan 2nd?  Im on a snowboarding trip now and dont get home til then.  Would like to use the same scale all the time.

Screw it.  I'm in. I've slacked off the past 2 months and put 10 lbs back on. Starting at 205 ish and would love to be at about 190. That's probably not enough to win the contest but I'm willing to throw in $100 for the motivation.

Out. Don't have a scale or even a normal kitchen until sometime in March

But I'll diet along with y'all in January at least

Investing our principle for 3 months and keeping the sure to be fantastic return = Oats winning.

I've basically had the same pattern for the last decade - I get really meaty in the winter and lean in the summer. I haven't even stepped on a scale in 5 months, I'm easily up 20-25 pounds from summer weight and could lose 7-8 a month Jan-March with no issues, kinda feels like free money to me since I do this annually.

Eventually my metabolism will prob #### me, but it works until it doesn't. I need to step on the scale tomorrow night, if I'm over 230 I'm in.

You're only in if your over 230?  $100 bucks is a basically a happy meal to you.

My summer goals are typically 210-215 at 10% - if I'm being honest with myself, I probably haven't seen 10% since my mid-late 20's (I've prob gotten reasonably close), it's year round dedication at my weight to get there in my 30's, and I just don't have it.

If I'm under 230, I've only got to 10-12 lbs to lose, I prob can't beat others at this in pure pound for pound.

It's % of weight lost and we all have the same time frame to lose it in.  It's pretty equal since someone heavier than you would find it easier to lose pounds than you, but they'd have to lose more to match you.  And 3 months isn't a ton of time if you don't hit the ground running.

These dudes are fat for a reason, I highly doubt $100 is enough of an incentive for them to forgo their fatty habits even for just a couple of months.  My guess is 6-7 lbs of weight loss wins this thing going away.

IIRC, Otis is like 6'4, 230ish. Even for someone with little muscle tone, that isn't someone riding around Walmart on a Rascal. Tiger Fan mentioned Orange Theory Fitness, & James Daulton has been involved in a bunch of workout discussions in the past. Ditka is kinda a wildcard.

Not quite the cakewalk you think it'll be.

Im more doing this for motivation.  Its 100 bucks and will make it fun.  If I win, awesome.  But if I stick to it, make progress, and someone else here does a better job and gets their health moving in the right direction, Ill be just as happy for them.

Im 6'2-6'3ish.  Right now Ill probably step on the scale between 213-220.  5 years ago I was as high as 249 and got that down to 198 over some time.  I got back up to 225ish, back to 205ish, and now sit here around 215.  I dont expect to win, would love to hit 195 but dont think I will.  I do have a few other things that will help motivate this year.  I plan to try my first Tri (ill do olympic distance).  I could complete all portions now (1 mile swim, 22m bike, 6.2 mile run) but I dont like just completeing things, I like competeing, so want to train for it.  Also, I am getting married at the end of October. Wouldnt mind being able to say I am in the best shape of my life at that point.  FWIW, I turn 35 next month, so metabolism is not on my side.

I'm an annual roller coaster between 225 (May/June) and 250+ (post Holidays).  I can lose the 6-7 in a week.  I'm thinking I'd need to lose 25+ to get er done.

Afraid to step on the scale right now, I know I'm at an all time high.  Might be an advantage in this though.

Updating to add Kutta. Bunch of other fat dudes are just like "maybe, hold on lemme finish these Ring Dings."  You only get added to the list with a firm commitment.

I'm gonna destroy this thing. Or become fatter than ever. One or the other.

Where do we send our buy-in Sparky?

In. And I've already won, you just don't know it yet. I've been training for this and gotten to the perfect doughy fatness where my leptin levels are optimized and my insulin resistance is in the perfect spot. I will drop 45 lbs, easy by April 1.

  • Otis
  • ditka...mike ditka

At that age I wouldn't give up on your metabolism just yet.

Guy is a 35 year old triathlete and he's here complaining about his metabolism.

- 40 year old dad of three small kids with a desk job and no workout regimen to speak of

I'm not fat but I could stand to lose 10-15 pounds. I'm not good at math.

185 - 170 = 15

170 / 185 = 5.5 percent?

im not going to be able to compete with some of you porkers.

This is where I'm at - 225-215 or 210 just isn't a big enough percentage.

I'll follow along bc Otis diet entertainment is Grade A shtick on this board.

I'm at my all time high and going up.  #bro

Same pants I wore 37 pounds lighter.

Gaining is way harder than cutting. Stop eating ####. Lift. Walk a little.

A lot of lifting programs out there. More than willing to pick one for anyone's goals and timeframe.

While it may feel like it's true based on your experience, it's not even remotely correct.  After I had cancer, I had to gain weight and it was the only good part of getting cancer.  Restricting your calories of often pretty miserable.

This depends on the person - I can gain quick. Pound protein/meats/fish/some carbs and lift like crazy. 6 or 7 medium size meals a day, 3 months, easy 15 pounds for me of clean gains.

#### it, I'm in.

I wasn't kidding when I said I am afraid to step on the scale... I have never been worse to myself than the last 4 months.  This will be embarrassing.

I don't have a fancy scale that uploads to fitbit or whatever.. how we doing this?

PM me your paypal or whatever the cool kids are using these days.
