Otis fad diet thread — yoga, fasting, and kevzilla walking on🚶‍♂️ (3 Viewers)

took my sub 400 calorie day home and ordered sashimi for dinner - it was such a good day I splurged with some Gyoza. My son had friends over earlier and there was left over pizza, I didn't have any. Although I was tempted, if I'm gonna have pizza itll be fresh and delicious, not wasting it on old pizza.

gonna make an egg white, turkey bacon, low fat Swiss omelette when I get back from the fruit store, going to load up mangos for the weekend, I love these things.

Just ripped a shot of wheatgrass and enjoying a huge bulletproof coffee.  Oh the energy, oh the splendor!

(Turns on sports center)

Yeah, I think you are wrong.  Maybe it would help if I told a story:

My dream is to run a marathon.  So far I've entered 5 marathons.  I know I can do it because every time I do great for the first two miles.  I don't even walk or anything, and I'm even way ahead of a lot of people.  But then around mile 3 I always make the choice to stop.  That's my fault.

I'm doing my sixth marathon soon.  This time I'm just going to keep doing what I did the first two miles for the whole 26.  Wish me luck!
I kind of get your point but I think what Avery is saying (and I've experienced too) is the diet works and then I don't have a good maintenance plan. I mentioned before I lost 60 lbs twice - now I did it very differently.  First time I limited intake some but worked out like a madman and got down to 180 - stopped all the workouts and continues eating the same bad ####.  Second time I did it mostly with diet - LCHF - for two reason, I was older and didn't have as much time to work out. Stopped the diet and gained it back.

Essentially what I did worked but I needed a better maintenance after.  I promise if I had done the potato diet, or rice diet or weight watchers or any number of things I would have put the weight back in if I just went back to what I was doing - I don't see how that isn't my fault.

We like fat Otis.
Eh, fat Otis is getting boring.  How many stories of over indulging in food and drink do we need to hear?  I for one wouldn't mind hearing some stories of Otis getting in shape, having amazing energy, feeling great about himself.

Then when he inevitably falls off the wagon and eats himself into diabetes, those stories should be epic.

For those wanting a low impact workout that buns more calories than walking, an elliptical is a great choice.  I've had a Smooth Fitness for 5 years and put hundreds of hours on the thing.  I typically do a kind of HIIT workout where I'll go hard for a couple of minutes, slow for a minute or two, and repeat.  When I'm done (between 40 - 60 minutes) I'm sweating my balls off.  And while not as effective as running, the elliptical no doubt has positive cardiovascular benefits, I can walk up steps without getting out of breath, have tons of energy, etc.  An elliptical is a terrific choice.  Important things to consider are max weight it can handle, stride length, flywheel weight, and front or rear flywheel.
Is the one I posted decent? Cheap but great reviews. Keep in mind this is for my wife who is not some workout warrior. I don't want to discourage her.

Went to the party last night, They had pizza and wings from my favorite local place.  Had water. (I had a turkey sausage with peppers/onions and mushrooms before I left.  For dessert they bring out angel food cake, cookies, pretzels and fruit to dip in a chocolate fountain.  Had 4 pretzels, and a few pieces of pineapple, strawberry and cantaloupe, NO chocolate.

Got home and had 2 baked potatoes.

This morning, egg white omelette with peppers, spinach, and tomato.  Homemade homefries with no oil and turkey bacon.  Was delicious.

Here's the thing, in certain items you get what you pay for (men's shoes for example) and exercise equipment is typically one of them.  While that elliptical may be fine for your wife it likely won't be sturdy enough if you wanted to use it.  But you're not risking a lot of money so if the reviews are good and it's for your wife, go for it.  When you start to look for something that you can use regularly, I'm happy to point out some key components you should look for.

Thanks I goto the gym and run around the neighborhood when it's warmer so this is strictly for my wife

Yeah my money is on Rick. Everyone else playing for 2nd
It's not even 2 weeks yet... long way to go.

I could have had 2 pieces of pizza and had the calories to do so and thought, why bother.  Once I drop a significant amount I will work my favorite things back into my diet in moderation.  Besides, my charity lost a grant and could really use some donations.

It's generally meant to be done for 3-5 days at a time for weight loss, and then 1-2 days at a time, every so often, for maintenance.

A week would be relatively hard core -- not that there's anything wrong with that.
What can you have on the potatoes?  Any non calorie items ok?  I cut them into fries, steamed in the microwave for a few minutes, tossed with seasoned salt, cayenne and garlic powder, place on a baking sheet lined with parchment and baked for 15-20 to crisp.  Any issue with that?  I assume ketchup is a no-no with the sugar but what about mustard?

Ketchup is ok, so is mustard.

I generally make sauces and load them with vegetables and pulses (garbanzo and other beans, lentils etc)

In doing my research and reading hundreds and hundreds of reviews from several places, the lower priced ones weren't sturdy enough and many had issues even with just casual use.

Ketchup, mustard, salsa- any kind of sauce with little/no fat is ok. I am doing hardcore, potatoes only with some Rao's marinara sauce, for this contest, but may decide to add in green vegetables and some fruits as a "cheat" because I want to optimize results.

I did this before and lost about 60 lbs in roughly 3 months. After a few weeks of potatoes only I started adding in green vegetables and ketchup and mustard and salsa. Didn't slow my results. What I've heard/read is sugars are not bad using the potato diet, but avoid fats. I Don't have any experience trying to do potatoes and not limit fat, though, so it might work, but I am skeptical.

you seem to be doing fantastic without this though, and I'd hate to derail your progress by pimping some miracle cure, when what you are doing is not only working, but far more sustainable than the potato diet. I, personally, like potatoes because it kills food cravings, gives me a sense of complete satiety and makes me feel great. And it works like nothing else. But realistically, for me, the crunch will come in developing a sustainable lifestyle. I stayed vegan/VLF for about 2 months after losing a ton of weight, then the cheats started. Holiday time was a complete blow out of eating crappy food and sedentary lifestyle.

tl;dr keep doing what you're doing and read The Potato Hack. If it makes sense and is useable for what you're already doing, use it.

As has been said many times, it's very easy to out eat and out drink exercise.
This is the part where I feel obligated to mention that exercise, which is awesome and everyone should do at least some, leads to permissiveness physically because you need more calories and mentally because you spent some of your reserves of discipline doing the workout.

Hey I burned 600 calories on my elliptical, I earned this beer and this small slice of cheesecake...and two Oreo...and another beer...and...#### it where's the party bag of Doritos?!?!?!?!

Made a good-sized chicken teriyaki salad for lunch. I think my stomach has shrunk significantly because I ate maybe 3/4 of it and I am so full.

Wife went to breakfast with girlfriends, I hung with the kids.

We had some smoked salmon, fat free yogurt, mango, and just polished off low sodium turkey/low fat Swiss/mustard/pickle sandwich.

just went for a 1hr walk:jog with the GF. Now about to shower up and make a chicken breast salad. Then off to BWW to watch the first game with some buddies and a couple miller lites. If I indulge there it will be on naked tenders dipped in buffalo sauce.

I only give you guys NutterButter certified recommendations.  Zucchini spaghetti, costco's victoria marinara, a turkey meatball and some parm.   So easy to make, very tasty and <300 calories.   Just tried it last night and it would be a regular part of the rotation.

I had oatmeal and a glass of skim milk for breakfast. Had an orange as a snack.  Had a small serving of spaghetti and meatballs for lunch. I worked out 4 days this week and am taking today off.  The squats done yesterday beat me up good.

I did buy a bottle of Four Roses and Bulleit Rye an hour ago. The Rye was only $25!   I need to keep those out of sight for another week or two.  I do not want those empty calories just yet.

Good luck avoiding calories today.

I discovered I could make a healthy blue cheese dressing substitute. Mash half an avocado, add in a spoonful of finely crumbled blue cheese. Have to stir the salad a bit to distribute, but it definitely satisfied my blue cheese craving. Random veggies and black beans were the only other things in the salad. Next time I will mix in a little vinegar to try to break down the pastyness of the avaocado.

Lunch - Grilled chicken in buffalo sauce  over romaine, spinach and tomatoes.  Side of cucumbers, celery and mini peppers, apple for dessert.

Lots of calories left for dinner.

Took a leisurely 13 mile bike ride today on Sanibel/Captiva. Looking forward to a little bit of beer and pizza with tonight's games. Maybe get crazy and have some ice cream!
