You need to over do it and go all spud, all rice or all meat. This rational stuff won't fly in here.![]()

From the LiveStrong websiteAs far as I'm aware, the diet with the best track record, backed by data, for helping people keep weight off after the initial weight-loss period is the Rice Diet. Sixty-three percent of patients kept their weight off for a year after leaving the treatment facility, and I think about 45% regained no more than six pounds after five years (going from memory -- I'll see if I can find the actual stat). For most diets, the commonly cited statistic is that only about 5% of people are able to keep weight off in the long term, though there is some dispute about how accurate that is. In any case, 45% is really impressive.
(The rice diet is the one where people were originally allowed to eat only rice, fruit, fruit juice, and sugar. Later versions also allowed occasional fish and chicken and maybe a few other things. People were expected to eat this way only while at the facility. Once they went home, they were supposed to eat normally but sensibly.)
There are no long-term stats that I'm aware of for the potato diet or for water-only fasting, but I'd expect them to also do relatively well for the same reason as the rice diet -- namely, blandness. (As with the rice diet, people are not expected to stay on just potatoes or just water for the long term. The point is to use them to normalize appetite so that eating sensibly becomes easier going forward.)
The trick to making it easier to keep weight off in the long term is to adjust your bodyweight set-point, which would otherwise defend against fat loss by ramping up appetite. I'm only a few chapters into the Guyenet book and he hasn't touched on this yet, but I expect that he'll spend a fair number of words on it given that it's an area of his own research.
I personally recommend chemotherapy for weight loss (though I generally recommend against it in cancer-free subjects for other reasons). I've been losing weight for months despite consciously trying not to.
You should be pleased. Congrats on your results.Weigh in this morning, 269.8. Down 2.2 for the week and down 30.6 total for 10.2% Very pleased with those results. Will post official results tomorrow.
Swim party at the Podesta's? The kids are precocious, but I don't know if I'd call them brats.1 naked dog, 1 naked brat and a few gin and sparkling waters. I skipped bourbon and my white trash guilty pleasure of cinnamon whiskey.
One month to go ladies - LET'S GO!!!

Why isn't there a "don't like this" button? It is Sunday, the day of rest.
Hardly! It is leg day along with 30 minutes of cardio. Get off the couch gentlemen and keep the weight loss going.
The top 4 on the spreadsheet all have a shot. In reality, appears to be AAA's to lose.So who is realistically in contention?
So everyone loses then? The top 4 on the spreadsheet all have a shot. In reality, appears to be AAA's to lose.
It shouldn't be too hard to do the math to figure out how far behind the top 5 are on a mass level based on %. There's probably a pretty hard limit at this point given water weight and glycogen and all that. The top 4 on the spreadsheet all have a shot. In reality, appears to be AAA's to lose.
I agree, I think you're the best person for the task. Let us know what you come up with.It shouldn't be too hard to do the math to figure out how far behind the top 5 are on a mass level based on %. There's probably a pretty hard limit at this point given water weight and glycogen and all that.
FAKE NEWS!The top 4 on the spreadsheet all have a shot. In reality, appears to be AAA's to lose.

At my fattest I was diagnosed type 2 and prescribed Metformin. I was given a diet regimen that freaked me out - 5 meals a day. I just don't work that way. So I started serious calorie restriction. Dr advised me to stop. I began water fasting. Dr practically panicked. Diabetics must eat to keep sugars balanced. Well I was testing my sugars daily on the fasts and they were good. So I quit using Metformin. Still good. A few months later, after some drastic weight loss, and my monitor reporting healthy blood glucose twice a day, Dr said I'm not diabetic. This video showed up many years after that experience, but it explains it well. I forwarded it 9 minutes but the whole thing is worth a watch, slightly over simplified. I am a big fan of Dr. Fung.I mentioned before but I was in the pre-diabetic category before starting this. I just hope I can find the right maintenance program once I feel like I've reached where I want to be. Still a long way to go.
I don't know what to believe anymore. Crazy times we live in.Math is hard.
I have a feeling I should know what this means but I'm21-3
that's all
Pretty sure we are getting full frontal shots if he wins. If that's not motivation for the rest of you, I don't know what is.So everyone loses then?
Oh hell yea!Pretty sure we are getting full frontal shots if he wins. If that's not motivation for the rest of you, I don't know what is.
FYI I haven't pooped since Friday. Should be a 2-3 pound hog in the morning.![]()
Yeah, even if he just holds where he is at, I'd have to lose another 14 lbs in one month to catch him. I'm not giving up, but second and third are much more up for grabs. The top 4 on the spreadsheet all have a shot. In reality, appears to be AAA's to lose.
I hear they need a QB. You should definitely throw your name in there. Not losing any weight here but finished my marathon this weekend which included chugging a Shock Top at mile 25. Also pressed 225 5 times which was a new ground for me. I may not win this contest but my combine numbers are looking good enough that the Browns may have me on their draft sheet.

I've hit those times before. Seems like you are doing all the right things but the scale does nothing. It's possible your exercise is gaining muscle so you are losing some fat, but just not seeing results on the scale. Do you track your eating? I've tracked in myfitnesspal every single thing I eat. I've found that when I've hit a plateau sometimes, I need to go back and be absolutely sure I am tracking everything and that includes portion sizes. Just a small difference each day will fool you into thinking your calorie count is lower than it actually is. Keep at it.cheeseypoof said:OFFICIAL WEEK 8 WEIGH-IN:

@Sand
Feel like I'm stuck in neutral. Past week to 10 days I've hovered between 312.8 and 314.6 lbs. Been under 2,000 calories everyday and riding my exercise bike almost everyday (12 of the last 14 days and I'm up to 45 minutes at a time). Really need to figure out something to kick start my progress again.
On the good side, my blood sugar is really well controlled. It's been averaging 108 for the past 30 days and daily averages in the low 90's and high 80's the past week, so I've got that going for me. I'm assuming the increase in exercise is having a net positive impact on my blood sugar even if my weight loss had slowed.
Keep up the good work gents, it's still helping inspire me to reform my ways.
Thanks
Cheeseypoof, or maybe it's low fat sugar free Cheeseypoof now?
Yes I track everything using MyFitnessPal. I try to be as thorough as I can but sometimes I have to make educated guesses if what I'm eating isn't listed. Usually happens if I eat out at mom and pop type place as most chains dishes are listed in some fashion.I've hit those times before.
