Having some people over next Friday. You and the Mrs are welcome. Nothing big - probably 8-12 people drinking from the kegerator and grilling up some surf and turf tacos. Any other FBGs also welcome.
What?! Which area did you end up moving to? (been out of FBG commission for a bit)Mrs Britney Spears is pregnant now, so I have a designated driver!
West SeattleIf you're coming let me know what things you guys aren't eating these days.Congats on the pregger wife! The period before the crazy sets in when you can have her chauffeur your drunk ### around is the best part.
I have been informed that I have plans on Friday. : (West Seattle is very close to my work (Sodo). Happy hour soon would be good maybe? There are awesome places in West Seattle. Beveridge place?

That does indeed look epic
:lmao: Meant to say that too :lmao:
Someday, it will be epic.
Brit- I waded through the entire "Epic" album and noticed you already had some impressive hill control in place...here. I have a similar vertical that rises up from our backyard that we are looking to tame. It's a perfect candidate for a real sweet au natural water fall, etc. Did you put that together or did you inherit it?

I started with this unused area where our yard runs to the edge of the ravine:

Start

This is where I'm at today:

Current

From the other side

The firepit will go right in the middle of the big area. I think I will plant something in the smaller areas. I have a lot of drainage built in and went through a lot of work to build underground so that everything stays settled.

Hoping to finish this summer and actually get to use it finally.
:excited:

WOW. That is insane..... And to do all that yourself.

I would at least have gotten some friends from Home Depot a few days ;)

Who would have thought Brit was so handy?

By the way, stupid question on this retaining wall issue -- if you've got a sloping area in your yard that you want to flatten, are you better off adding dirt to the low side to make it all even, or take dirt away from the high side, or just digging into the whole thing and taking from the high side to add to the low side? I'm thinking given that our highest slope is at the back edge of our yard, and the height gives a nice feel, maybe we should add to the rest to even it out and then build a retaining wall around the rest to keep it up.

I'm guessing that that would depend on just where you want the space and how you will access it. Pretty sure you wouldn't want a wall 10 feet from your back door so that you could have a level space up top. 20-30 feet away, maybe....

When we did it, we essentially just cut into the hill. They took most of the dirt away.Keep in mind, the walls can only be so high before you have to (or are supposed to) get an engineer involved. Our hill was so steep we ended up with three walls (the landscaper miscalculated just how steep the hill was - he thought he could do it with 2 walls and he ended up having to eat the cost of the 3rd level).

here is an old patio thread. prices, ect. discussed.

best investment/improvement I could have ever done. :goodtimes:

I like the natural look, possibly more of a terrace design instead of something totally flat. I can move and lay a few rocks to make a curved pathway, maybe something like this, but not a huge project like building the Pyramid.

Wow. Very nice. Looks like the Paterson version of Chichen Itza.

Nature's first green is goldHer hardest hue to holdHer early leaf's a flowerBut only so an hourSo leaf subsides to leafSo Eden sank to griefAs dawn gives way to dayNothing gold can stay

Holy ####, Brit, you love to take pictures.
:lmao:As I was sorting through that album I was thinking "man, these pictures are helpful to me, but what the crap was he doing stopping everything every 15 minutes to take a picture."

Personal favorite is the close up of the bag of sand in the wheelbarrow.
I liked the closeup of the bubble on the level - not showing what it was on, just the level. It was just the kind of clear photographic evidence of Brit owning a functional level that I needed.

Was round big O's new hood today shopping. Only a matter of time before I see him checking out butts at Whole Foods.
:hifive:Otis Cruises The Mircacle Mile...
:hifive:Great shopping there. Added bonus: Benihana across the street. :onionvolcano:
My fiance has already planned out how to spend my potential millions should my business venture work out. Or where to buy 250 dollar sunglasses, today. We did get the Nespresso machine though at the Crate and Barrel - awesome.Ive only been to that Benihana like 3 times in my life, the last time with this girl I dated from Joisey. Bad memories. If you want some restaurant suggestions, let me know. PS: When's the first BBQ?

I have to take these pictures, post them in chat, and have people explain to me WTF I have gotten myself into.Otis> You're rich. I would hire someone to make something like JerseyToughGuys has. I'm poor so I have to do this myself.

I have to note that new Otis threads are excellent. Home improvement, making furniture, contractors, cabinets.

It's like successful version of all the things I'm interested in.

Speaking of making furniture, I can't find that Restoration Hardware thread I started a while ago, but in anticipation of our move the wife and I spent the past two days out at the Restoration Hardware and Pottery Barn outlet stores and absolutely crushed it. Got some sweet deals for sure, but even at sweet deals it wasn't cheap. That said, I think we did a damn nice job furnishing the living room and dining room, and the place is gonna look pretty awesome.

I like most of the Pottery Barn catalog. :bag:
My god what is happening around here.
lmaoPickles-- we got two of the Manhattan armchair to flank either side of the fireplace ... in camel. You just don't see that. Awesome right??
That's, what, $3k worth of armchair? This is why I peruse their catalog.

Otis, did you pick up one of Restoration Hardwares 1000 dollar cribs? Or did you buy an overly leathered hideous 1000 dollar chair?

Now you're talking...

Bring back the furniture thread? Those were the good ole days.

I got a good deal on some nice wood chisels. I would like to make one of those George Nakashima wood slab tables with the butterfly joint things.

Got a deal on a few of these chisels last week.
Ok, I should have said "nice for me". The ones I got are not nearly that nice. It was $30 for 4. Those are super nice. I'm a hack, so I have to take it easy with the purchases.

I wouldn't call myself a hack, but I am certainly not a wood nerd like most of the guys that use those chisels (although I do have the beard and tend to wear flannel). But those guys wanted to have a tool show at our school, in our shop (I work at an art school). We told them they could if they would give us some stuff. We picked out a few chisels. Havent seen them yet though.

I think a cheaper set would be fine as long as you keep them sharp. But then I don't make furniture so what do I know.

Since we're talking furniture in here, I'm looking for a decent TV stand that would hold a 46" TV for under $400. I'd prefer something with glass doors rather than open for the electronics since we have a toddler. TIA.
