Yeah, i really don't get the obsession with removing all the trees. I get that some of the shrubbery and other miscellaneous plants might be ugly and annoying to deal with, but not the trees. Other than the occasional trimming of a nuisance branch and the leaf cleanup, they don't really cause any harm. They're what give a neighborhood and a house character IMO. I would think that most people would enjoy the privacy. When i own a house (right now, I'm just in a condo) I imagine I'd enjoy the privacy.

If Oats wanted to move to a development with wide open lawns and cookie cutter landscaping (This place, for example) there are thousands of developments within a reasonable commute to NYC that he could have looked at.
That's like a 3 million dollar house. It hasn't said, but I'm not getting the impression that's what he paid.
I was really only providing it as an example of the landscaping, not the actual house.I just googled "mcmansion" because that's generally the type of landscaping they have (due to the neighborhoods usually being fairly new)

Yeah, we don't want a McMansion, and we like the hill and unique setup of our property and house, but it needed some trimming back. I don't need to live in th jungle or bush, but I'm not razing the whole thing and paving it either. And yeah this place didn't cost even one million dollars let alone three.

surround your homes with bushes and trees covering all the windows?
horrible, imowe took out 3 trees and a host of evergreen bushes that did nothing but #### up our landscape and view. also they caused problems with water in the basement and not letting sun in during the winter.too many people plant pine trees/bushes right up against their houses, then move before they mature and cause problems for the next owners

Taking lots of heat over cutting down this christmas tree.

It's actually a decent tree, but it was not placed well. If we want a big christmas tree out there we one day plant one in a better spot -- not front and center blocking the view out the window. Do you guys generally surround your homes with bushes and trees covering all the windows?
Depends on the view. But generally, yes. I look out my windows, and I don't see the street or my neighbors - I see my yard and trees. Why would you want to see the street (and have the street see you)?Privacy in your home / yard is a good thing. Looks like you have a nice little wooded lot there. I much prefer trees / shrubs to open lawn. But that's me - it's your yard, so have at it :)

I guess everyone has different preferences. Ive seen those house where people surround the property with tall hedges so you see nothing but bushes from the street. I just don't get it.

10 properly placed and pruned trees > 50 unpruned misplaced trees Thinning the herd will allow the remaining trees to fill out and be healthier/better shaped.

What's so funny to me, well besides the electric cord connected to a chainsaw, is he cuts down this awesome and innocent little Christmas tree so perfect for decorating above the driveway and in middle of all those ugly offensive trunks. Wth, Otis!?
:goodposting: I don't remember this being part of the plan.
We got a little trigger happy I think. I miss the Christmas tree already.
well at least you can remember it each year on youtube

TREESFront windows are tree free :) I don't own the land behind me but trim from time to time.... That's 2 back window and 2 side dining room window shots. Thats my view and like it for the most part

I have a neighbor on the other side but no windows on that side of the house..

Looks great -- but you've got a clear, well kept lawn, a clear view to the street, and you have a fence separating your yard from all those trees.

Raccoon got into our garbage again last night. I put the bags in the can but just rested the lid on top. Guess I'll need some more trash cans. Or a shotgun.

You people are all clowns. Along with Otis. His questions are beyond ridiculous.
I stand by this post. 21 pages because the city slicker bought a house? If he puts a TV in his bathroom, I suspect most of you losers bust a nut.. Weird.
What else am I supposed to do at work?TV in a bathroom would be nice
Already ran the cable in my bathroom, problem is now you are required a box for the cable, you weren't before so now we need to rethink what we want to do

Has Arctic Edge checked in with a mirror joke yet? Because for the likes of me, I can't seem to find one.

One of the schmucks who owned the house before us decided to build a second upstairs bathroom and a walk in closet in the master bedroom. Pretty nice ideas in theory, but the rub is that they built the tiny walk in closet (about all you can do is walk in, then walk back out) around one of the windows, and a bathroom around another. So now we've an enormous canopy of trees blocking any light that would have entered the two remaining windows to our bedroom, and the other two windows are in essence out of commission.

I can see putting a window in the bathroom, and that is kinda nice having a jacuzzi tub with a view and some air, but who the hell takes out a window for a closet? I stood there this morning in our closet trying to put on a tie, looking out the window, with no mirror in sight. Now my tie is too short and I look like I just popped out of a clown car. Not to mention the fact that when you look up at the house from the street, that window is always pitch black and the house looks like Amityville. Because it's in a #######ed closet.

Did he calli the Feds on himself? If you missed the video and you're upset about that, here's a recap: chubby goofy guy from the city cuts down a christmas tree while his wife videos and his brother in law holds the tree up with a piece of extension cord (which he had cut through accidentally with the hedge trimmer earlier in the day), and while his cousin stands nervously at the bottom of the hill between the tree and his new shiny Mustang. Tree falls. Doesn't make much sound. Car is fine, nobody is injured.

Brother in law, while trimming the hedges with the electric hedge trimmer, cut through his 16 gauge extension cord. I had only purchased two, so this put our parallel track on hold for a while until someone could run out and get a new one.

When he cuts thru the extension cord thats powering his trimmers does the cord electrocute the trimmers?
