If you're going to be doing a lot of work on the house yourself
He isn't going to be doing a lot of work on the house himself. He keeps thinking he will but I give it about a month before he gives up. Just long enough to fill up his garage with tools and a lawnmower and other crap that he'll never use again.
 I've never known Otis to be a slacker. Although he did give up rather prematurely on his music career IMO.
I don't think he's a slacker. I just think its an unrealistic expectation given the other demands on his time. If he goes around and asks all the other partners in his law firm about how stuff gets done around their houses, he will learn that a small army of brown people do all the cleaning, yard work, maintenance and home improvements for them.
I'm not one of them damnit.

90 bucks a week for regular maintanance
:lmao:
Actually it doesn't seem absurdly unreasonable based on other things I'm seeing. I've seen estimates of 60-70 bucks a week elsewhere. I wonder if it's because of the odd terrain of the property -- probably requires some more work since you can't just run a lawnmower over most of it.
I'm struggling to see how I would ever justify $90/week for yard maintenance. A car payment, sure.

o/u on a full recantation of this statement. 1.5 years.

Just enough time to allow for major injury, baby oat crawling, Mrs. Oat threatening to kill him if he doesn't hire some of this stuff out.

I'm considering selling all of my stuff and hiring a service soon. Somebody is looking at our house tonight. If I get an offer, I'll shoot you a PM.

I live in south orange county CA, where nearly everything is absurdly overpriced. That is Striaght up robbery. $360/mo for gardening? Ridiculous.

I'm not in OC, but for $160 a month I get weekly service on a much larger property that includes keeping SoCal weeds down on about 300 yards of roadside fenceline. My mom pays $80. My sis $90. Same guys do all the work. I get a dumpster for a month or three pickups, whichever comes first, for $180. I'm sure I could get a mess like Otis' cleaned up for under $500 with a single phone call to the gardening service.

Yeah maybe, but figure a hard working mexican is overjoyed with a $75 in a day. Could five do it in 9 hours if I rent the truck? Jeebus, I can clean up a 2.5 acre disaster here that fast.

But really, how much can it possibly cost to mow your 15 square feet of lawn?

I love how Otis is willing to go hog wild ripping down trees with his buddies to save some money, but when it comes to weed trimming it's all "#### it, we need help."

This is a little more than "weed trimming.". No we aren't on an acre of land, but it's enough land and enough weird terrain and gardening areas that it. Is totally worth it to me to eventually get in a weekly service. I work pretty long hours and I'm not home all that much -- the time to unwind and hang with family on the weekend is worth more than the loot. And I didn't rip down the trees to save money. That was purely for fun.

It's actualLy not that bad. Worth the view down from up high. And the property is situated such that the street winds uphill around the side of our house, so the side entrance is actually level with the house. Mailbox is back there, as is garbage collection, and that's where we have been taking big deliveries. We considered paving a separate single car parking space there so you could pull in back and park there for an easy walk when you have groceries etc. I was surprised to figure it that there is no local ordinance etc preventing us from doing that. You can pave onto anything and then park your car there. But the stairway up in front provides a pretty cool/potentially grand entrance. If we ever fix it up

Actually had a masonry guy in last weekend to give us an estimate on covering up the stairs with some nice stone etc over the concrete.

That's one of the few things I have no problem with paying someone else to do.
I hate it all but riding around on the mower.
:goodposting: Mower + beer + Ipod =

everything else =
linkExcept this is my leaf blower now.

Oat<I'll be waiting for your offer.

I think a list of words/phrases Otis that wouldn't have come from his pleasantly plump lips 2 years ago.

lumber, logging, wife , child, chainsaw

What'd I forget?

I'm a fbg.....I not only own a mower, I have a driveway.

Otis: Hey guys, what's the deal with this kid on his bike who throws a paper at my door every morning..? People in the suburbs get free papers? Is that so we keep in touch with our city brethren?

FFA Clowns: Umm.. Oats.. That kid is the paper boy, you will get a bill for those papers, it's a service for money.

Otis: Oh my, Im such a newbie.

FFA Clowns: Dont worry Otis, we got your back.

Otis: What do I tip this kid?

FFA Clowns: Classic Otis.. (everyone laughs)

I'm not going to wade through 23 pages of this, but have you posted some pics or video of the property? What are we dealing with here? I sincerely doubt it's worth paying out $360/month. The way you're boasting in here, you're living in a Scupper-esque cabin somewhere in northern Wisconsin with a few acres of heavy woods. You moved from Brooklyn, right? :lmao:I spent $50 on a bag of fertilizer this year. Oh, and I bought a new air filter for the Lawn-Boy®... maybe $4? It's not like tending to your lawn wipes out a weekend. Well, unless you're my neurotic neighbor.
