Our Superbowl Champ (1 Viewer)

my main dynasty league is ten years old. the team with the best regular season record has only won the SB 3 times in 10 years
We are 10 years old as well. I believe the best team in our league won it 2-3 times max.
In 6 years of our league, I've won about 80% of my games - far and away the best record in the league. I've been to only two SBs and never won any of them.
i went thru this the first 5 years of my dynasty league, it is   . had the best record ever year but could not win the SB. But I finial got over the hump in 2004. won it all 2 years in a row now and 3 out of the past 5

This year, the 8 seed won it all with a 6-7 regular season record. Anyone else have something like this happen?
I was 6-7 and made the playoffs in a 6 team playoff format and of course my super stud team showed up week 16 and had the high score of everyone. Only problem is like most of the year week 14 they didn't show up so no this never happened in a league i've been in

My league champ had a 6-8 regular season record, then beat the #1 (12-2) and #2 (11-3) seeds to win it all. Dallas Clark got hot the last 2 weeks and carried him to the title.

In the 15 year history of our league, the #1 seed has only won it all twice (this year being the second time). Oddly, both times it was accomplished by the same team - and those are his only two championships. I have been the #1 seed 5 times and never won it, yet when I was a 5 seed I won it back in 2001.H2H playoffs are a crapshoot. If you don't like that element change the rules. I am actually bucking for a rule that pays off regular season success as well as post season success.

This is why my league doens't have playoffs. Best record wins it all. The better teams win it all, the late-season streakers might get 3rd for prize money.
You must be a fan of the BCSPersonally, I like it when a late-season streak pushes a team over the top in the playoffs.

I am league Champion but was almost beat by a 4-9 team.

10 team league

8 team playoff

His Colston, Westbrook, MJD, Welker combo got hot at the right time. Gave me one helluva scare.

i run a 10 team dynasty league($150 fee), 2 divisions. division winners gets $200 each and #1 seed gets another $50

Our league champion was 7-6 as was I. So you had the 5th and 6th seed in the Superbowl, with the 5th seed winning it all.

Total points, from weeks 1-16, is the only way to crown a true champion.
It's also the way to get the maximum number of teams to lose interest during the season.
No kidding...after what, week 10, there can't be more than 2 or 3 teams that are in the running for total points.
Side bets and pride keep every single team active through week 16. Last week there were 8 total waiver moves made by 6 different team owners.

They do the same in head-to-head leagues. But more people fall out of contention in total points leagues than in head-to-head leagues, and lose interest for that reason.

Not to mention it takes away the incentive for a deal to make your team better for a playoff run. But, to each his own. There is no "right" way to run a league. We do reward the highest scoring regular season team with just a little less cash than the league runner up.

I was 11-2 and lost in the first round by a guy that was 5-8, in the first round of our playoffs all the lower seeds won. I was by far the best team in the league, with the most points scored. Luckily, 25% of the pot goes to team with most points.

Our league is pretty close to this also. Last year I was 7-7 and last team in. Got hot and won 3 in a row, this year 10-4 and got beat by the last guy in. I had scored 250 pts more than the 2nd highest team for the year. H2H means one bad game and it is all over.

When did the NFL go back to 16 straight weeks of games?? Am I missing something or does this league just not want to play the whole season. If you are playing total points what is the worry about playing the last week? Play head 2 head and total point leagues that run all 17 weeks, would not want to play any other way.

80 % of leagues the best team doesn't win it all! Once you get to week 15-17 in the NFL weather starts to effect things, players rest, etc.... Part of the game.. what can you do.. Personally, it is why I always go by total points... That is a much better sign of the strong teams than by record... Numbers don't lie...

We lost two teams this year which diminished our league from 16 to 14. We still send 8 teams to the playoffs which means there is likely a team with a losing record in the 8 seed. This year, the 8 seed won it all with a 6-7 regular season record. Anyone else have something like this happen? I'm going to push for a bye system for the top two teams while teams 3-6 play a first round.
My team was pretty close. It was a free CBS league. I went 7-7 in the regular season and beat out the next closest guy in my division by a 1/2 game (6-7-1). 4 teams make the playoffs and I needed grant to get me 14 last night. I won 102-101. You can see my roster below.

:goodposting: Nobody here is wrong. For me, total points is superior. Losing a total points league isn't fun, but you feel like you lost to the better team who had a better draft, made better trades, waiver pickups, etc. That's okay.

Losing a h2h league can be frustrating if you had the "better" team overall. But that's how the game works.

Winning an h2h league is fun, of course, and there's a cool underdog element to sneaking into the playoffs and winning it all. But you kind of feel like you got lucky at the right time, so while you take the win and the money, you feel like Lady Luck is your co-owner.

Winning a total points league is the best imo. You're the best and everyone knows it. There's a lot of luck in the game, but you won because you were the best over the course of the whole season, so there's less luck involved. Nothing in fantasy football tops that feeling.

Not if you have excellent ownership. Pride and fun can accomplish things that money cannot.
Pride and fun exist just as much in head to head leagues. Interest wanes when teams are eliminated, regardless of rules, that's just a fact. And more teams are eliminated early in total points leagues. The money leagues I'm in reward both --- they're head-to-head with playoffs and a super bowl, but they also pay for the points champ. Nothing wrong with that setup at all, and it keeps teams interested through playoff time.

if a team wins like this, i commend it. It means he made wise roster moves to give his players great late season matchups while others with good reg season teams seemed to overlook this. Dont change the rules to make this harder, just adapt and mange your team better! Plus you should be happy that 6 seeds int he playoff have a chance. it keeps the league more competitive and reduces the chance of a team tanking.
