Packers GM Has No Plans To Trade For A RB (1 Viewer)

Who would you trade for?

a 1st day pick for Mewelde Moore?

Or Turner I suppose...but right in that article you see Smith saying he is not available.

Its great to think they should make a move. Its another thing to actually see there is not much out there and the cost (draft picks) for mediocre players who are not better than the guys they have is too much.

And he is right...if he felt they were close to a title, he may do it...but they are not, and he knows this.

With next year's draft being more rich with RB talent than this draft I think they are wise to stand pat. Besides is they can improve the run blocking im sure 1 of the 50 backs they have will emerge.

Not only that...Turner is a free agent.

The time to make a move was in the off-season when there were a number of good to very good options available. At this point, I'm not sure what's really out there. I do think Mewelde Moore is better than anybody the Packers have and I think the Vikings would deal him for a fifth that would rise to a fourth depending on playing time. I'd probably gamble on that but I'm not sure the Vikings would be keen on dealing him to a division rival and possibly helping that rival address their one glaring weakness.

Ted has no plans to trade for anyone. He doesn't like FA's either. He's a draft guy and is pretty good at it(the word is still out on the running game).

I'm not surprised... football deadline deals just don't really happen that often. This isn't baseball.

If the Pack address the situation, it will be in the offseason.

If Wynn can keep a handle on the ball, I can envision him as a decent option for their primary back, with Morency and Jackson spliiting time as the 3rd down GL guys.

Ryan Grant seems to be the odd man out as of late, but if Wynn stays healthy and focused, I don't think he is all too bad, and the pack will have a 3-headed backfield. Not great in terms of FF, but for the NFL, keeping a back fresh for the game is never a bad thing.

Actually, the plans I've read indicate Jackson will be the odd man out. Wynn is supposedly the guy on 1st/2nd down, Morency on 3rd, Grant the backup playing mostly on special teams. Jackson won't dress unless one of the other three gets hurt.Of course, injuries can throw a monkey wrench into this anytime.

Options like Travis Henry?Willing for a 5th? To the Packers? What makes you think that...given the rumors they wanted a 1st day pick from Tampa. I doubt they would come down on their demands for a divisional rival. And if he is better than what they have...its a marginal difference.

This would be correct. Jackson had his shot and blew it. He'll likely need injuries or poor performances from Wynn or Morency to get back in the mix.

He will use free agency at the right times. He used it last year. The problem I have with his drafting is that as good as he is at finding WRs...he sucks at finding OL>

It looks like they want someone to step up and take the job. Wynn hasn't been a good pass receiver but has been getting better. I would like to see more of Grant though.

I've listed a number of possible options in other threads, none of which were Travis Henry. And I agree the Vikings would be unlikely to trade Moore to the Packers. That's what I wrote.

When you have his collection of so many future Pro Bowlers on the roster why would you?

Wynn and Morency looked great last week putting 100+ yards and a td on the Bears in the first half. The real question you should ask is, "when his collection of offensive linemen are playing like crap, why would you?"
