Packers in serious talks with Jets (for Favre) (1 Viewer)

What is 20 million over 10 years anyways. Can he not just comeback and be the Packers backup and get 12 million for holding a clipboard and invest this right and it would be worth over 20 million in the end.

All that hard work. All that complaining and than to accept this is unacceptable. I think people already question his flip flopping and this would be a slap in the face to those who have supported him as capable of playing. This would only save face with the Packer management in the end and this truly hurts Bretts appeal in the marketing world. Another lose of revenue to the 20 million comparison.

Yes if Rodgers is injury prone they have him as a backup plan to play until Brohm is ready. He can be a marketing consultant for $20 million and come back if they need him.

:pickle: if this happens :banned: if not
If the reports are true and he's flat out rejecting the Jets then I think he's a fool and you never know in todays NFL - as outlined above, the Jets are decent at every spot sans QB......If this is the way he goes out, it seems to me like it's the worst possible way - He'd get more sympathy if he was injured.. He's gathering Haters all along the way on his retirement tour..I HATE Brett Favre. :hot:

Amazing.

From Rotoworld:

Brett Favre doesn’t want to play for the Jets and is seriously considering accepting the Packers’ $20 million offer to remain retired.

Favre is only considering the $20 million "marketing" offer because he doubts he'll get his wish to play in the NFC North Division, presumably for the Vikings. "My intentions have been to play, and with Green Bay," Favre told ESPN. "They say no, so I still want to play in this division for obvious reasons, which I made clear to management. If they won’t let me play in Green Bay, let me play against you. That’s where I am." Commissioner Roger Goodell continues to delay Favre's reinstatement, a sign that a resolution may be

My take - so he only wants to be in charhe of the team OR be a sour#### and play against them to show them up. Nice.

Yeah...that statement there should tell you that its not just that "he wants to play" as some people are saying.I think he has a real problem with TT and its guiding too many of his actions....which is why Murphy is more involved now than Thompson.

If I were a Jets fan though...how embarrassing...the guy would rather just stay retired than play for the Jets. :lmao:

Bret Favre is a b*tch!!! Some desire to play huh, biggest sports market in the country and you flat out say you don't want to play there. He has something up his a** about G.B. and just wants to stick it to them. No true desire to play ball at all

I think people are taking his comment about where he wants to play all wrong. This is all an opinion, so if you want to pooh-pooh it, go right ahead.

I think that he still loves Green Bay very much, but he is an NFC North guy as well. He likes playing in heated matches against the Bears, he likes playing against the Vikings, and he likes playing the Lions. If he stayed in the North, he'd get to play half of his former rivals anyway, and on top of that he'd get to play the Packers twice as well. I see his wishes to play the Packers as more of a "friendly-rivaly" thing from his POV. He very well might be able accepting that they're not going to let him start for the team he's started for since dinosaurs roamed the Earth. I think from his comment, that the way he sees it, let him play the team that has replaced him. He thinks he is better than Rodgers, and if they aren't willing to let him prove it in Training Camp, he wants to prove it during the year. Is that really spiteful for him believe that he's better than Rodgers when nobody is arguing against that point anyway?

Playing in another division he doesn't get to enjoy the rivalries he's been living for the past sixteen years. He isn't ready to be a footnote in the Jets - Pats rivalry.

So...he does not "just want to play football"...he just wants to play football for Green Bay or Minny? Ok.I can see that as a possibility...though I highly doubt it.

There seems to be so much bitterness towards TT and the Packers right now.

I don't think its spiteful for him to think he is better than Rodgers...but I don't believe his motivation with that statement was so that he could still play the Lions twice a year.

Perhaps a fair point. And maybe I have just perceived him as being very selfish in this mess from the get-go, so my thoughts are colored.

But it's hard -after all this- for me to see his words in the way you put forth.

But a fair point nonetheless.

Yeah, it's just an idea. He's said stuff in the past that has been open to interpretation, and that's honestly how I took it when I first heard his quote from the text message. I could be completely off base and he could be saying it as an F-U. But that wouldn't be the best way to get what he wanted, especially considering the first reason anybody thinks he wants to play for Minny is because they're a QB away from being a serious threat to the NFC.

But calling TT a liar was the best way to get what he wanted?I don't think most of his actions were the best way to get what he wanted...why start now?

I don't remember him calling TT a liar, are you referring to him saying TT was scared about his job when Brett asked abotu coming to camp? TT is the one who said he had a different memory. If there's another scenario remind me. Like I said, if Favre is considering the offer and retirement, then he's pretty beat up over the whole deal. He was pretty tired of it when it started, IIRC. He said taking the deal could be the easiest thing for everybody. If he's thinking about what's easiest for everybody then he's probably not thinking about making extra trouble for the Pack.

Im referring to the Greta interview where he specifically mentioned 3 times he claims TT has lied.I agree he is thinking about it to not make extra trouble for the team...(more so for his teammates and fans and the organization outside of Thompson). And I respect him for that for sure if he takes it...but if his message really was a stick it to Ted...I just don't like it.And his actions so far lead me to believe that comment was out of spite towards Ted.

I didn't remember anything specific from the interview, but even if what Favre said was true, yes I am sure it would be hard for TT to stomach being called out about things in these interviews. I think though, the disrespect has gone on pretty evenly between the two camps. Between the false talk about preserving his legacy, talking about how sincere Favre acted at the conference when he retired, there has been a lot from Packer camp to paint Favre as insane for trying this comeback stunt. I am sure they each had their visceral reactions. At the end of the day, I don't think Brett Favre wanted to come out of retirement to get back at anyone in the organization, but after being presented with obstacle after obstacle set in his path to stop him, he had to reorganize what his plans would be. He realized he couldn't play for Green Bay, so he considered his next best opportunity.

The only reason this thought occured to me was because in that very same text message he said he wanted to stay in the division "for obvious reasons that the team knows about." Now, it might be obvious to you and me that he wants to beat the tar out of the Packers for everything that's happened, but I think that if he actually discussed the reasons with the Packers, he might have said he wants to play against the people he's played against his entire career. Ulterior motives tinged with spite and a chance at a championship? Sure, very possible, even likely. I think he's a pretty emotional guy and the entire idea of playing in the NFC North is shaded with things that make it appealing.

According to this Brett would do well with the Jets.
I'll never forget back in '96, I was moving, driving a U-Haul and some guy gets on the FAN in NY and starts talking about how the Allan Houston trade is great. They ask him why and he goes into a diatribe of how he put him on the team and "Simmed" a season and they won it all. I was laughing so hard (partly at his enthusiasm, partly at the hosts' utter disbelief that someone actually did this), that I almost drove the thing off the road. During that time, I was playing much too much Sega hockey and felt lucky my grades did not suffer and I was able to get a decent job; after that, i felt much better that there were loons out there that were much worse off than me.
