Packers "Poised" to Re-Sign Ahman Green (1 Viewer)

Green Bay, meanwhile, is poised to bring back running back Ahman Green. He said after the game Sunday that his agent has been in discussions with team management about a new contract. Green held up for the entire season after suffering a season-ending ruptured thigh in 2005 and set a franchise record with his sixth 1,000-yard rushing season. Green had signed a one-year, incentive-laden contract last off-season and tops the Packers' short list of potential free agents this off-season.

"I'm looking forward to next season, being in green and gold. That's the only thing that's on my mind," Green said.

I think the value was to be had in '06. In '07 he'll be less valuable only because you'll have to take him higher.

Ahman = '07 Value
Ahman = '06 value, '07 not so sure. Morency looked good in his limited use this year (more explosiveness than Ahman). Herron also hurts him on 3rd down. He has two capable backs in the backfield with him and the Pack will probably use him like they did this year (keeping him to a max carry count) except that I can see Morency chewing into his production a little more.

I get the distinct impression that Noah Herron will be gone. They were pretty critical of his play this season, basically pointing out how many yards he leaves out on the field because he doesn't have the speed to make things happen. Doesn't sound like a ringing endorsement form the coaching staff. The one to keep an eye on to replace Herron, in my opinion, is Arliss Beach. Rookie last year who they put on IR. They really liked him last pre-season. I think he's a better fit for them than Herron.Regardless. It'll likely be Green splitting with Morency again. This is smart for Green Bay. It keeps Green healthy, and allows Morency to get on the field. Beach is a wildcard/development guy.

Good info on Herron/Beach. Ya, I'd imagine they are pretty happy with how they used Green/Morency down the stretch and with Green's age/injury history I'd imagine they'd want to continue to keep his touch's limited (which isn't good fantasy wise). I like Green and he definitely surprised me but Morency surprised me even more. I thought he looked very good at times and he would scare me as a possible Green owner.
