Panthers acquire Josh McCown (1 Viewer)

Panthers acquired QB Josh McCown from the Dolphins in exchange for undisclosed compensation.Miami did well to get something for a guy about to get cut, but Carolina was desperate after Matt Moore's injury. The deal likely means John Beck is safe as the Fins' third QB. McCown is a poor starter, but can throw downfield. If Jake Delhomme got hurt, we couldn't expect a huge dropoff from Carolina's pass catchers with McCown in. Brett Basanez's roster spot is now in doubt. Source: FOXSports.com

Does this say anything about Delhomme, his health, or anything? Just wondering... Could be more of a statement about having Moore as the #2 I suppose.

I don't remember him being so awful for the Cards, and I have zero faith in Matt Moore. We needed to pursue another backup QB earlier in the offseason and the options have dried up. Who else is available besides Culpepper, who is/should be done.

Moore took a hard shot yesterday and has a "deep bone" bruise. They had feared ligament damage. Delhomme isnt the sturdiest player.Move makes sense to me.

good move by my Cats... would like to see him take the #2 when Moore is healthy even... the Cats are super high on Moore but we were terrible last year when Delhomme went down with every QB they had... Moore's not super terrible but I like him a lot more as a #3 guy

Does anyone in the league get screwed over for roster space more often than Josh McCown? It's almost comical how teams bring this guy on and end up throwing him back on the scrap heap just as quickly in favor of a younger guy.

 They took Moore off on a cart last night. McCown makes sense here, but I'd think he'll stay behind Moore on the depth chart (if not sent packing) when Moore's ready to go.

Hey, if they ever end up in a 4th down against the Vikings...
Yes but the force out rule is gone. IIRC, the Arizona WR landed out of bounds on that play so no TD this time.

Jake is fine, but Moore took at good shot late in the Steelers game and I think the Panthers are concern about Basenez having to step into the starting lineup if both Moore and Delhomme get hurt. A 7th rounder for a vet that has done OK in short stints is not a bad idea.
