Carolina 7 New York 0 5 min left in 1st Qtr.

55 yards rushing for Carolina in opening drive, capped by Steve Smith 5-yd TD rec.

Foster 4 for 31 yds 7.7 YPC

Goings 2 for 24 yds

Jacobs 3 for 8 yds

Panthers looked really good on the opening drive.

Foster ran the ball 4 times. 3 of them he gained 5 or more yards on. Those 3 runs all started to his right and he cutback to his left for nice gains.

Goins was in on short yardage

It's still very much the pre-season, but I like the new blocking scheme for Carolina. Foster now has over 70 yards total.

Carolina 2nd team in now at the beginning of the 2nd Qtr. Goings still in at RB, but Foster is done. No sign of DeAngelo yet.

Carr sucks. Delhomme will be the starter barring some kind of injury. Anyone banking on Carr taking over is dreaming. And yes, I figured this out in one series.

Foster looks great.
I've always liked Foster's talent. I've never questioned whether he has the talent to be a good NFL RB. The guy just can't stay healthy so you can't trust him.
I don't agree with you on that. Foster stayed healthy last year for the most part, and before that his injuries were major breaks in his bones. It's not like he generally has nagging injuries every year. I chalk his past injuries up to some bad luck.

Panthers have thrown 3 or 4 times to the TE (by design) already this game.

Something they didn't seem to do at all last season

Call it bad luck if you want but the fact is Foster has never played a full season in his NFL career. Hence my belief that you can't trust him. I've always liked his talent; just don't like the fact he can never stay healthy for a full season.

I don't know but I heard DFos looked good. DCar didn't though, but I'm not worried, I like JDel this year and long as they have SSmi they're good to go.

Dear NFL: we are sick to freakin death of the Strahan-goes-to-an-NFL-school commercial we're about to puke. Have no other NFL players done this? Maybe even one who isn't holding out and sitting around w/his thumbs up his butt while he tries to figure out if he wants to play any more or not?

I agree with Foster looking very good. It will be interesting to see which WR for the Panthers will become the #2 when the season kicks off. The Giants Derek Ward who missed all of last season with an injury, looks good tonight. I can see him in the mix with Jacobs and Droughns.

Jacobs was horrific tonight. All talk of him being a feature RB prior to this has now been rendered moot.

So at this point can we say the new Panther 1 cut running game is a huge success. Packers are in their second year and are not coming anywhere close to what the Panthers are doing tonight. 10 yards per carry for 2 different backs. Looks like the second coming of the Denver offense including the question on who the heck is going to get the majority of the carries. The coach says Foster is the starter - no question. And if he runs like this its going to be hard to get him out of the game so DeAngelo can get his yards. Another RBBC mess.

Carr went 6 for 8 for 83 yards and a TD.What did I miss about his performance ?
Carr looked ok. He made a stinky pass or two. That one long pass was to a Panther that was left wide open around the goalline. Busted coverage on the Giants part.

My thoughts:

1) Foster looked very good. More decisive than I remember seeing him last season.

2) Goings looked good as well, as the OLine opened some nice holes with the new Zone Blocking Scheme.

3) DeAngelo Williams didn't play because of a tender ankle. Obviously, he'll benefit from those same holes the Line opens, but those of you who though Williams would take over the job due to Foster sucking (myself included) are likely to be disappointed. Now we have to wait for him to get hurt. :)

4) Jarrett didn't make the trip to NY and I didn't see much of Colbert at all. But the WR3 and WR4 candidates on the Panthers, like Biddle, Robinson and Horn, all looked pretty good, albeit against 2nd and 3rd stringers. I think that somebody can step up as a WR2/WR3 to help take some pressure off Smith.

5) For the Giants, I didn't think that Jacobs or Droughns looked very good. I have to think that the Giants are really hoping someone among Ward, Grant or Bradshaw really steps it up this season.

How did these RBs look last night?
Well, Grant had the best stats and he looked OK, but I thought Bradshaw looked a little better. Ward was his decent self, but I don't see him as a guy who can make his own space, if you will. Grant is similar to that. I got the feeling that either one would have done worse against the 1st string Panther defense, but that Bradshaw would have done about the same.

Ward and Grant need to step it up just to make the team. The Giants aren't counting on any of those guys for significant contributions.

Just continuing his stellar Hall-of-fame career in Carolina. :lmao:
I was being a bit hard on him, and he did improve as the game went on. I still think his pocket presence sucks though. The big story that emerged from this game is what Carolina did running the ball. The cutback runs worked very well for Foster, and it lets him be a more decisive back. These kind of plays were rarely used last year and I am looking forward to seeing what they can do in the regular season. Foster may end up being a decent sleeper pick if he ends up getting 60-70 percent of the carries.

Did Plax and Amani suddenly get healthy and play? How'd they look?

Smith and Moss, how'd they look?

How about the hefty lefty? He's been getting great reviews from TC

Neither Plax or Amani played. I thought Smith looked decent, but I didn't think that much of Moss. They tried him on an end around that went nowhere and I'm not sure that it was as much a great defensive play as Moss not making the right cut. I thought Jared looked great, personally. Not like he would challenge Eli for the top spot, but better than Wright. He actually scrambled for a first down on one play and looked decent doing it. I think the Panther defenders were afraid to tackle him, lol.

What an ignorant statement! If the criteria for judging a players performance is based on the first pre-season game, then I guess we should cross these guys off of our draft list. Lynch 2-3, T Jones 6-22, Norwood 8-29, Chester Taylor 1- -4, Peterson, 11-33, Addai 2-5, Tatum Bell 6-19, M J Drew 3-7, Ronnie Brown 8-8, Fred Taylor 1-3, Ladell Betts 4-6, Chris Brown 9-19, Ahman Green 3-7, Edge 2-3, Dom Rhodes 8-21, Duece 3-2.Looks like a bleak year for Rbs!
