Panthers vs. Giants - Pre-season Wk1 Game Thread (1 Viewer)

Carr sucks. Delhomme will be the starter barring some kind of injury. Anyone banking on Carr taking over is dreaming. And yes, I figured this out in one series.
Just continuing his stellar Hall-of-fame career in Carolina.
I was being a bit hard on him, and he did improve as the game went on. I still think his pocket presence sucks though. The big story that emerged from this game is what Carolina did running the ball. The cutback runs worked very well for Foster, and it lets him be a more decisive back. These kind of plays were rarely used last year and I am looking forward to seeing what they can do in the regular season. Foster may end up being a decent sleeper pick if he ends up getting 60-70 percent of the carries.
You nailed it there - Instead of stepping into the pocket to avoid the pass rush, it seems like Carr's first instinct is to run and that's when he gets in trouble.

I can't blame him for running. His intincts took over...and they are partly like that because the Texans had such a terrible line every year that Carr was running for his life all the time. I think he is still young enough to lose some of those habits...and I do believe that can change.

Did Plax and Amani suddenly get healthy and play? How'd they look? Smith and Moss, how'd they look? How about the hefty lefty? He's been getting great reviews from TC
Neither Plax or Amani played. I thought Smith looked decent, but I didn't think that much of Moss. They tried him on an end around that went nowhere and I'm not sure that it was as much a great defensive play as Moss not making the right cut. I thought Jared looked great, personally. Not like he would challenge Eli for the top spot, but better than Wright. He actually scrambled for a first down on one play and looked decent doing it. I think the Panther defenders were afraid to tackle him, lol.
thanks

1.) Who looked better in picking up the blitz/defenders: Jacobs, Droughns or Bradshaw?

2.) How did the Giants O-line look? Was Manning/Lorenzen pressured often?

I can't believe no one's talking about the next WR2 for Carolina, Mr. Biddle. Two TDs is an express train to the starting lineup! Colbert who? Carter who? Jarrett who?

Foster looks great.
Foster looked way faster than last year, plus he was running hard!
Last night's starters:LT 70 T.Wharton

LG 68 M.Wahle

C 75 J.Hartwig

RG 73 J.Bridges

RT 69 J.Gross

Week 17 2006 starters:

LT 69 J.Gross

LG 66 W.Montgomery

C 63 G.Hangartner

RG 71 E.Mathis

RT 73 J.Bridges

Foster would have looked that way last year if the bolded guys stayed healthy.

He certainly would have looked better last year had those starters not bit the dust at the beginning of the year, but I also think the new zone blocking scheme will benefit him.

I did not get to see this game. Just noticing that Bradshaw had 3 catches 22 yards as well as 5 carries for 19 yards.

Bradshaw showing some versitility in his game?

I do like this guy and wonder if he won't work his way into some time share as a rookie.

1. Jacobs was solid but wasn't really tested. Droughns allowed one pressure. Bradshaw flipped a rusher over his head on one play which was nice to see from a guy his size.2. The starters only played two series/ 11 plays. They didn't give Jacobs much to work with on his first three runs but opened up a nice hole in the red zone which he took advantage of for a 7 yard pick up. Eli was sacked once (it was a coverage sack) and pressured once (the play prior to Shockey's TD Diehl seemed to take the wrong assignment allowing McClover to rush Eli untouched). Otherwise Diehl handled himself pretty well at LT. Guy Whimper played two full quarters at LT with the the second team and was very impressive (didn't give up any pressures and had the key block on the 22 yard screen pass to Droughns). Lorenzen did get pressured quite a bit but it all came from the other side (Jonathan Dunn was at RT). Zach Piller and Grey Ruegamer were mostly solid in the middle. It's also worth noting that Robert Douglas the new FB did a nice job as a lead blocker and caught a nice swing pass for a first down. He looked more athletic and stout at the point of attack than Jim Finn.

Bradshaw was really impressive (though he didn't get in until the 4th quarter and was the 5th HB in the game). He showed natural hands, elusiveness, the ability to cut back and gain yards after first contact. As noted above he was solid in pass protection. He also had a nice kick return. With Droughns and Ward in front of him I don't think he'll play much this year, unless there's an injury (his best bet to make an impact will likely come on special teams). Long term, if he can keep his nose clean, he has the tools to be a real nice compliment to Jacobs.

Well I grabbed DeAngelo before Foster and I hope I didn't just blow my draft. I figured they were both going to play and I was thinking 50/50 or thereabouts. Now..... :excited:

DeAngelo was a scratch, no worries, he'll be fine. I'd assume a 50/50 split at this point, with Williams getting more catches but Foster getting more GL opps.
