WR S. Smith Misses 3rd Straight Practice

Associated Press - [Full Article]

Panthers WR Steve Smith missed his 3rd straight practice Friday with a sore hamstring, and is Questionable to play in the season opener against Atlanta. "There is nothing new with the injury report. Everyone is still listed the same," HC John Fox said. If Smith cannot play, WR Keary Colbert or WR Drew Carter would start opposite Keyshawn Johnson.

ESPN just reported Steve Smith will take a test run on the field this morning to see if he's ready to play. Smith is still listed as questionable.

:goodposting: just saw that. Doubtful in the first post is incorrect.I suspect he will play.

Even if Smith plays, not sure how effective he will be since his strengths are his speed and ability to cut...not too easy on the hamstring. I might bench him even if he plays and that means I have to decide between McCardell and Engram, but I would rather have someone who plays the whole game and healthy.

BTW--do we have any times when Smith was questionable and then played, to see HOW he played?

I'd like to know if he came back from injury limited, or actually did well.

I saw doubtful on a few sites myself. R White is just pasting.

BTW Another thread on page 1 here, same topic. If you feel like weeding thru posts, I do see the value in a quick link/new thread

I do not recall him ever being out with BOTH hamstrings botherring him this much. He has owned Atlanta so Fox does have some simple motivation to keep them worried that he'll play(if that's the case)

I'm not talking about THIS specific injury, Bri. I'm talking about any injury.

Sal Pal from ESPN just reported Carolina is going to wait until the last second to announce whether he will play or not.

Well, hammys have always been this guys "achilles heel" FWIW

To be honest, even if he does play...I'm sure he won't go all out. They want him for the majority of the season opposed to this one game. Thus, they will take it easy with him, even if he does play. FF wise = bench him and start antoher guy. IMO

Clayton on Sportscenter said that they never in fact downgraded him to doubtful, he is still listed as questionable and will try to see how he feels after warming up this morning.

Clayton did say there is an outside chance he plays but he doesn't think it will happen.

Here's what this tells me: Smith's pre-game test didn't rule out him not playing. Said another way, if he worked out this morning and the grouns just weren't cooperating, then we'd have clearly heard he's out. I'll take no news as good news.

Unless, of course, the Panthers know full well that he won't be playing and are playing games with the Falcons.

I think this has more to do with mind games, then the actual health of Smith.

News: Steve Smith was listed on the inactive list for Sunday's Week 1 game vs. Atlanta. Keary Colbert and Drew Carter will start along with Keyshawn Johnson vs. the Falcons.

I don't care if it's a repeat in the same thread, I appreciate the effort to post "OUT" news. Thanks guys
