Because a teacher is requesting students to copy a declaratory statement which is blasphemy to their beliefs. It is really not hard to understand why people are pissed over this. It is a dumb assignment.am i missing why a world religion class is getting punished over learning about religions of the world?
Re-read what I said and explain how this applies. Hint: It doesn'tif that bothers your belief, you must not believe very strongly.
In elementary school, we sang songs for jewish holidays.
It didn't bother christians
nor did the christian songs bother the jewish people in the crowd.
religion of peace...oh waitHerndon said she was “led by the Lord” to organize a meeting Tuesday night at a local church to call for the termination of the teacher and asked for “security on the grounds to make sure no one gets out of hand.”
Not even remotely close to similar. But you know that. It is a pointless discussionWe are singing songs about religions we don't believe in..? Write the statement that they had to write....
The left-wing stupidity and the left-wing bigotry fronts?Speaking of Hitler, jon seems to feel the need to battle this on two fronts
Why would I? The teacher was out of line. This will not end well for her.Of course jon mx won't let it go in this thread either...
But local Muslim families in Montgomery County, Maryland weren’t happy with that. They wanted the end of Ramadan (the Eid) added to the list of religious holidays, just like Christmas or Rosh Hashanah. But instead of adjusting the calendar, the school board caved to pressure and made their holiday schedule “religion neutral.”Muslims Successful in BANNING CHRISTMAS in Maryland Schools, Because it Is Offensive

I find it wrong that one school determines they can't refer to Christian holidays and here a teacher asks students to write a phrase that denouncies their religious beliefs in favor of another one. Things are out of whack. One thing for certain is this assignment was wrong. At least the school said they would fix it in the future, but that statement is not enough to quiet the masses. How exactly would you have worded it? It is good to learn about other cultures. Playing with their toys is a positive experience. Writing a phrase which is accepting their religion and conversely is denouncing your own is just wrong on every level. It belittles both Muslims and Christians. Of course you are smart enough to understand this, but you feign ignorance to be a jackass. It seems to be a recurring theme.Dreidel, dreidel, dreidel,Not even remotely close to similar. She probably is a good teacher, but that doesn't change that she made a mistake here. She shouldn't lose her job, but the correct move is to admit the mistake and move on. Ignoring it or passing it off as over-reaction by the right will get her fired. She stepped on a land mine and needs to recognize that. She has already waited to long and the backlash is going to build if she fights it.This is just a case of a loony squeaky wheel and the story got traction on conservative radio. Language has meaning. Did the students write that they are denouncing their beliefs? Did they write that they personally believe that there is only one true god, Allah, and that Mohammed is his only messenger, and were they asked to do so sentiently after disclosure and consideration, or did they copy down what Muslims believe when they declare their faith?I find it wrong that one school determines they can't refer to Christian holidays and here a teacher asks students to write a phrase that denouncies their religious beliefs in favor of another one. Yeah no. She is a good teacher according to her students and admin. She won't lose her job. Even if it was a mistake she shouldn't have to apologize because a handful of irrational people are up in arms about it. This will die down. Certainly the squeaky wheels should practice a little forgiveness which is the tenet of their faith. It's obvious that loon Herndon won't though. http://www.newsleader.com/story/news/local/2015/12/17/riverheads-high-school-follow-up/77483594/She probably is a good teacher, but that doesn't change that she made a mistake here. It's OK to apologize when you make a mistake.
They were asked to copy down a phrase and not even told what the phrase says. In that context, it has the appearance of a spiteful act against Christian students. It is kind of like an English teacher having spanishing speaking student repeat the phrase, "I am a illegal alien who should be deported". Oh sure it is educational and something maybe Donald Trump would say, but it is highly offensive having them repeat it. Maybe a funny gag in a movie, but in real life very offensive and not appropriate for public school.Language has meaning. Did the students write that they are denouncing their beliefs? Guess you didn't bother to read the info in the link:
LaPorte's lesson was part of a survey of different religions. When students study a different part of the world, they also learn about that region's culture, religion and political systems. Students had studied Christianity and Judaism then had moved on to Islam. They will also learn about Hinduism and Buddhism. Comparative religions is part of every world geography students' required standards for Standards of Learning tests.
Is Mohamed your messenger?Oh god I wrote the phrase...*waits* nope not Muslim.
The phrase one God named allah..you know Arabic bibles use the word Allah too. It's basically saying there is monotheism Allah is the same God Christians praise. Spartans had multiple gods. That phrase says the latter is false.
With regard to the story you posted, the school didn't determine they couldn't refer to Christian holidays, they chose to do so rather than have to refer to a Muslim holiday as well. Thr school board IMO is acting out of ignorance, fear, and bigotry, and you are behaving as if they are victims.I find it wrong that one school determines they can't refer to Christian holidays and here a teacher asks students to write a phrase that denouncies their religious beliefs in favor of another one. It's not any more "offensive" than if I and my kids were atheists and they were asked in a class about world religions to draw a crucifix. It's a class on religious studies. The adult thing to do would be to sit with your kids and talk about what they learned, share you beliefs and allow them to grow from it. Instead, this loon went down the "indoctrination" route, you won't be sharing world views with my kids, "not in my town".No one is questions the goals and benefits of learning about other religion.
