what if Patriots really didn't do anything that the Colts didn't do ?

c'mon now - Colts cheated too by having underdeflated balls - and only 4 of theirs were checked - why ?

because it was a Patriots witch hunt - that's why

It may already have been answered, but why does anyone believe it is in the NFL's interest to have a flagship franchise and it's marquee player involved in a scandal of any type?

In other words why does anyone believe in any type of witch hunt?

I don't see any scenario where that is a positive for the NFL.

Because it makes Pats homers feel better.

If the pats knew and believed they were guilty, then admitting it may have been the wiser move.

However, they may truly believe they are innocent. Tom Brady is certainly still taking that line. The evidence of deflated balls has basically lost a ton of credibility since the wells report, and certainly since the AEI report. So there is really nothing other than a text or two to suggest any wrong doing at all. So, if the pats are truly innocent, or if Brady has misled his team into thinking no rule was broken, then acting the way they did and demanding apologies and the context website, etc. is perfectly the correct approach. Admitting guilt when your innocent just to avoid a heavy punishment is an absurd response.

Because this story is still dominating the headlines during the offseason. If you think this has been bad for ratings on the NFL network and ESPN, you are out of your mind.

Not being argumentative here, but is it fair to say you believe the NFL executive office then creates unfounded controversies specifically to boost ratings?

Do they selectively target the Pats in doing this or do they do it across the board?

Plus, there is one person who could have helped provide some context, but he chose not to, by refusing to share records of his electronic communications. Brady chose not to do so.
How would Brady have provided any context to this? The text was in a conversation between McNally and Jastremski.

NFL could have said

Colts had 75% tested balls under inflated

Patriots had ( was it 10 of 12 under ?? )

both had under inflated balls - weather impacted that and then told the teams hey - watch it, because we're watching you

but everything happened like it was a Patriots witch hunt, ESPECIALLY the fact that the Colts broke the rules too

"Ratings" was your answer? You're better then that.

Oh, I don't know. Maybe his cell phone contains a text where he tells Jastremski to make sure the "deflator" has his footballs deflated. That would add context.

Or maybe he sends a text to McNally saying "if you let my balls get to 12.5, you'll be out on your ###." That would add context.

Hell, maybe there's a text to McNally saying "you fat *******, you wish you could deflate as easily as you deflate my footballs after the refs inspect them!" That would add context.

Maybe Brady has a congratulatory text to McNally saying "down to 200 lbs! Way to deflate!" That would add context.

We don't know what kind of context Brady's phone records could have added, BECAUSE HE REFUSED TO COOPERATE WITH WELLS when Wells asked for COPIES of the records. But don't pretend like his cell phone records wouldn't add any context to the texts about deflating balls, the nickname deflator, or any of this other nonsense. That's just stupid.

They had Jastremski's and Mcnally's phone records. They know what texts Brady had with both of them.

Nothing to see here
This wouldn't surprise me in the least but exactly how does this help Brady? Is his argument that he didn't do it or that everyone is doing it?
Everyone does it, or it's no big deal, or we did nothing wrong and it's all a mistake. They have all been used - some like to throw them all out there and see what sticks.
For the record this is the 4th instance of ball tampering in the 2014 season (not counting deflategate) that I've at least read about, no one was punished. Apparently the Pats were aware of as many cases from the 2013 season and presented them to Ted Wells.League apparently didnt consider that when spending millions on nothing then handing out their toughest punishment ever.

Good use of the "everyone does it" with subtle allusions to the "it's no big deal". Also, appreciate the "it's a waste of resources". Bravo.

when were Patriots given a CHANCE?
Oh, I don't know...how about January 19th?

How about January 21st?

How about January 24th?

How about January 27th?

How about when they refused to allow Wells to re-interview McNally after discovering the "deflator" text?

How about when Brady refused to share copies of his electronic text records?

That's 6 chances, off the top of my head...they literally had the chance EVERY DAY since the AFCC to do what I said. They chose not to, and they brought this on themselves, by thinking they were above the rules, above every other franchise, and above the NFL. If they had possessed even the tiniest shred of humility, and said "we screwed up, in a very minor way," this would have ended months ago. Instead they chose to make the situation much bigger than it needed to be by denying, lying, demanding apologies, refusing to cooperate, etc. They've no one to blame but themselves for how ridiculously overblown this became.
Oyyy,

The Chris Mortensen\NFL public crucification\lynching of Brady (Jan 21) was like a nuclear bomb and there was no way, no how to reverse it. Anyone who tries to claim otherwise is a fool, a hater or both. That ESPN report was a smear job full of lies designed to fire up all the butt hurt haters (Colts, Ravens, Steelers broncos etc) fans and convict NE and Brady in the court of public opinion. Mission accomplished, there is nothing Brady and NE can ever do that will stop the butt hurt Steeler\Colt\Raven\Bronco\Jets\Buf\Mia\etc fans from whining over NE kicking there ### year in and year out.

ESPN falsely reported the following and even though the NFL knew for a fact it was all lies they said and did nothing to correct it........

"The NFL has found that 11 of the New England Patriots' 12 game balls were inflated significantly below the NFL's requirements, league sources involved and familiar with the investigation of Sunday's AFC Championship Game told ESPN.

"The investigation found the footballs were inflated 2 pounds per square inch below what's required by NFL regulations during the Pats' 45-7 victory over the Indianapolis Colts, according to sources.

"We are not commenting at this time," said Greg Aiello, the NFL's senior vice president of communications."

These were out and out lies and smears released for one hateful nasty purpose and one purpose only.

Whether you believe NE and or Brady did anything wrong or not, it is undeniable that once the ESPN smear came out on the 21st there is nothing NE or Brady could have done that would have made one bit of difference to the whiney butt hurt tools, never mind the poisoning of opinion of the casual nfl fan and the percentage of the population who didn't already envy and detest NE to begin with. There really was\is no way of coming back from the ESPN\league hatchet\smear job that came out on Jan21.

Carry on....

Okay........... :loco:

If all this is really true, and nothing will clear Brady or the Pats, then why would they be bothering with this appeal? Why would he (if you believe the reports out there) be considering lawsuits if he doesn't get completely exonerated? If I'm not mistaken, he stands to lose less than $2 million in salary if he sits out 4 games. He'll likely pay that out in legal fees if he decides to go ahead with a lawsuit. So, that being the case, Brady's decision to appeal and possibly file a lawsuit indicates that he believes his name could be cleared, which means that all the ridiculous nonsense you posted is, well, nonsense.

But, at least you got to use that cool, sophisticated "butt-hurt" phrase a few times. That must make you feel like such a cool guy.

Maybe Wells didn't actually ask to see the phone or the texts, but rather copies of their contents that Brady/his agent could provide & he'd believe that they gave him everything he asks for.

Damn, the truth makes you look even more ridiculous than you do without any help.

You are confusing standing up for yourself, the truth and what is right with acknowledging an inability to change the mind of close minded people.

The force is strong with the butt hurt crowd (post after post, after post, unrelenting to the point of obsession), but there are many who are still interested in finding the truth.

I'm out for now, but ill be back..........

For the same reason that you would shout innocence from the rooftops and fight to the last man if you were convicted of a crime that you either A. Were innocent of...or B. Truly believed you were innocent of due to being ignorant of the crime.Again...Sure,the pats could have acted with more tact, laid down and taken their punishment, thereby probably getting off easier both with Goodel and the public...but everything they've done so far has seemed to me like the actions of an organization that doesn't believe it's guilty, not of an organization that got its hand caught in the cookie jar, like is being suggested.

If they are willing to proclaim innocence to such an absurd degree, then maybe there is something to it? After all, the factual evidence (ball pressure) actually suggests there may be nothing here.

:loco: If all this is really true, and nothing will clear Brady or the Pats, then why would they be bothering with this appeal?

So you really haven't seen this yet? http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/patriots-press-conference-cold-open/2842425
I have. Its still hilarious.

Was told by person in today's appeal that Tom Brady's greatest ally was...Tom Brady. Offered explanations in all areas. Now up to Goodell.
No different than game days... when Tommy cries, he gets the call. We'll see.
man ...people really have it in for him...so strange because he`s a nice guy in a sport filled with HUGE egos and violent domestic abusers and all around idiots

when were Patriots given a CHANCE?
Oh, I don't know...how about January 19th?How about January 21st?

Oyyy,The Chris Mortensen\NFL public crucification\lynching of Brady (Jan 21) was like a nuclear bomb and there was no way, no how to reverse it. Anyone who tries to claim otherwise is a fool, a hater or both. That ESPN report was a smear job full of lies designed to fire up all the butt hurt haters (Colts, Ravens, Steelers broncos etc) fans and convict NE and Brady in the court of public opinion. Mission accomplished, there is nothing Brady and NE can ever do that will stop the butt hurt Steeler\Colt\Raven\Bronco\Jets\etc fans from whining over NE kicking there ### year in and year out.

These things don't quite fit with the "everything they've done suggests that they are innocent" theory:

1-Promised to fully cooperate with the NFL but refuse to allow Wells to re-interview the aforementioned "deflator" because it was "inconvenient" for him (even though Wells offered to go to him for the interview. (This is "shouting innocence from the rooftops?")

2-Brady refusing to provide copies of his electronic communication messages with the 2 Pats employees (not the phone itself, but copies that HE and his agent would provide. (again, this is "shouting innocence from the rooftops?")

3-Kraft deciding to accept the NFL's punishment, one of the stiffest in NFL history. (This if "fighting to the last man?")

Not everything they've done suggests innocence; in fact when you look at everything as a whole, the more likely conclusion is that they are trying to hide something. IMO, they're trying to hide a very minor rules violation. In that attempt to cover up this minor rules violation, they made the situation much bigger than it needed to be.

No, some of it looks like they realized they were getting railroaded as they were trying to get ready to play in the freaking superbowl.

I said much earlier in this thread that Brady would not get a suspension. I just couldn't see the NFL allowing the season opener to be played without Tom Brady at QB. When he got the 4 games I was shocked.

I'm wondering now if I was right all along...

I don't understand why everyone is wanting Brady's text message history? Can someone explain this to me what what new information would be gained since anything he texted the 2 employess would be on their phones as well?

I don't know "everyone" wants Brady's text message history.I do know Wells asked for it and was denied, that's just not a good look for someone trying to express innocence.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Tom Brady was his own "greatest ally" in Tuesday's appeal hearing and gave an "A+ performance."

Per Schefter, Brady "offered explanations in all areas." Brady was present for the entirety of the marathon 10-11 hour session, and appears to have spent a good deal of time on the hot seat. It's unknown when commissioner Roger Goodell will reach a decision. It's extremely unlikely to come before the end of June.

I think he still gets suspended, but it will probably be reduced to two games. I am assuming they will say Brady came in and did a good job of speaking about the issues at hand and cooperating and answering some questions we wanted answered.

My guess is Brady is guilty but a defence team could make enough of a case in the court of law that there would be the potential of him getting off due to the messed up way things are dealt with in courts.

I posted this earlier in this thread:

When they asked Brady to supply the relevent texts, Brady had no way of knowing whose texts they already had for sure. Likely McNally and Jastremski, but who knows who else? It's easy to see now that the report was released, but Brady could not know for sure. Asking him to supply just the texts that applied to this issue would have let Wells cross reference the texts. The only reason not to supply them is Brady at the time wasn't sure what he needed to include or not. Texts to McNally yes, but what about someone else, he doesn't know what they have and leaving things out when he is asked to include it all would look bad. So, Brady decides not to give them anything because he likely had something that would have looked bad if he included it.

What? This doesn't make sense to me. Would you mind clarifying what you meant?

It looks like you're suggesting that if Wells asked Brady to supply all texts he had exchanged with McNally & Jastremeski, and Brady did provide all those, but didn't include texts to John Doe Pats employee, that would have looked bad? In other words, giving Wells what he asked for, but failing to give him something that he didn't ask for was a better option than giving him what he asked for?

OK, well after they played in the freaking superbowl, over 4 months have passed, yet they've continued to deny, lie, cover-up, & refuse to cooperate. So, how does that fit with the "trying to get ready to play in the freaking superbowl" idea?

There were reports (sorry no links) that when Wells first met with the pats, they were expecting Wells to help them uncover who has been trying to railroad them. Baltimore? Indy? Then they realized Wells wasn't there to exonerate the pats, he was there to find a smoking gun. Hence leading to the pats being less than fully cooperative, since it likely appeared to them that Wells was gonna get them regardless. Which actually has some credibility behind it if the AEI report is to be believed.

I agree, I'm not really following that either.
