This is a dumb thread. I am not a fan of any of the listed teams (giant's fan) nor do I hate the patriots. If the allegations are true But what they did was cheating and total BS. No other way to look at it.

Well, Im a Giants fan and I hate the Patriots. I actually hate them more for the media coverage they've gotten and the tuck rule.

Doesn't the missery the patriots have brought to the Jets for the last few years bring a smile to your face

I am not debating your statements, but I'd like to point out the fact that just because they got caught doesn't mean they are the only ones doing it..

Baseball teams steal sign sall the time, I am not the least bit surprised that football teams do it too..

I have personal opinions, but you have to use the same reasoning about Barry Bonds cheating, he isn't the only one doing it..

I heart the Patriots and laugh at most of you from my exclusive club. Only once have I felt shaken up and this incident is it. But after evaluating the situation and hearing the Coach's statement, I am at ease and look forward to the Chargers.

Hate on. I love you guys. Hi, Jets fans! Tell Mo Lewis I said thank you.

This is the new world. As long as everyone is doing it then it's ok no matter how unethical it happens to be.

I'm a Dallas fan as well as a Lions fan. I admire the Patriots at they way they've run their organization and played football the last 10 years.

The rule was in place, they knew it and broke it. I don't buy for a second that Belichick doesn't know the rules forward and backward. You don't give the guy the credit you do for knowing this game and it's rules for all these years then when something like this comes up, buy that he interprets it another way. If he had some questions and didn't understand, you do what you tell your little kids or students at school...........THEN ASK BEFORE YOU DO IT!

I'm not sure what the penalty should be. If it's their first offense, considering how the Patriots organization has been run in the past, I'd give them something light in terms of sentences.

However, make no mistake whether you're a Patriot fan, hater or anything in between.....they were cheating. Whether you want to believe it helped or didn't, they felt it was worthy enough to try and get away with it. That tells me it helped some.

I also don't know if they were the only team doing it out there......doesn't matter, they were the ones getting caught. Now, the NFL needs to be more proactive and probably put in more rules and guidelines concerning these issues.

I've read in some posts that now that this has happened, they will REALLY beat up on the Chargers to prove a point. That's absurd. If they beat up on the Chargers this week, it's because they would have beaten up on them either way.

The ONLY thing this entire incident does is take away the concentration and focus of the coaching staff and team. Yes, these guys are ultimate professionals and handle their business, but they're also human beings and the coaching staff will have to answer questions during the week and think about this when all they should have been thinking about is San Diego.

Just prior to this incident, in a different post I predicted that the Patriots will win 24-21. I'm flip flopping and picking the Chargers 24-21. Not because I think this cheating thing made the Patriots a better team......but because I predicted that score when I thought all of the Patriots from the Waterboy to the headcoach would have their heads ONLY thinking about the Chargers. Now, that's not the case at all as they are worrying about all kinds of things including the Unknown, which is sometimes worse.

I saw in a national poll that the leading penalty of this should be a loss to the Jets. The people aren't going to get that.......but they are going to see this cost them a game, and it will be to the Chargers this Sunday. Way to many distractions heading into a game like this.

I suspect that this topic has been far more distracting to many of us than it has to the Patriots. They haven't really answered many questions and a few guys have been asked in the locker room. I suspect this will motivate them to prove that they can win without being thought as cheaters. But clearly there is no way to monitor the impact of all this.

I'm a Bills fan. Of course I "hate" the Patriots, just like I hated the Cowboys in the 1990s and hated the Dolphins back when they were good. That's just part of being a fan of your team and naturally feeling a sense of rivalry with teams that you consistently bump up against.

That has nothing to do with my feelings about the Patriots videotaping defensive signals. I'm not honestly sure what sort of penalty would be most appropriate in this case, but I would feel it merits punishment even if it were, say, the Cardinals who were caught doing this.

Edit: Having read most of the other threads on this, there are some Pat fans who really need to learn what an ad hominem argument and why it's not legitimate.

Even though I voted myself not a Pat's hater, I agree with others that they should get a bunch of asterisks next to their recent achievements. Really this is no different from my feelings regarding Bonds setting the HR record under questionable circumstances. If they advantaged themselves in a prohibited manner, it's plainly wrong. Whether or not they 'needed' to do this to win is beside the point to me. There's so much parity that any little advantage could have an impact to the 'any given Sunday' credo. I definitely don't have anywhere near the esteem for that organization that I had when I woke up yesterday morning.

I don't think there's really a way to tell unless you saw something like New England getting beat down and out of sync. I certainly don't expect that but if it did......I don't know, I see your point and it's certainly an angle. I just think the coaching staff, more than the players will be affected by this. It's not even over yet..really just starting. This is going to be a big story all week. Shoot, on ESPN when they come on at 11 AM and CBS etc... this will be one of the lead stories. To me, regardless of what side of the fence you sit on this, it's a distraction. Not the kind of thing you need heading into a very big regular season game like this.

Former Hater here...but if you really sit down and think about that franchise w/ an open mind there is no way to hate. They are what every :goodposting: dreams of having IMO. Great team, great management, great franchise.....Haters=jealous.

I hate the Patriots, but just because they have been so good for so long. If you are on the top then everyone hates you.

I've posted this elsewhere in defense of the Pats, so I'll do it here too...Bill Walsh was the dirtiest coach to ever walk the NFL sidelines..cut blocks and illegal picks were his M.O....is a potentially career ending cutblock worse than a guy holding a camera allegedly stealing signs? YES it most definitely is..keep things in perspective, man..a camera didn't physically hurt anyone, while Walsh's tactics cost people their careers..just food for thought...

Really? So Billy normally heads down to the NFL's offices in NYC on a Monday or Tuesday to have a face to face chat with the commissioner? Something tells me that Billy has certainly lost out on some prep time for the next game. Probably not a whole lot in the grand scheme of things, but distracting none the less.

First off, I'm a Broncos fan. Obviously I'm not a sore loser, because Denver has owned New England- 5-1 against them since the "dynasty" started, with the one loss being by 4 points when they were forced to start their 3rd-string QB. Just giving a little bit of background for the following remarks.

I do not hate the Patriots franchise. I think it is a quality franchise that is very well run. I do not hate the Patriots players, who I think are good guys, although I think people overrate their character- I don't think they're any more or less selfless than any other team. I *DO* hate Bill Belichick, because I think he's a jerk. He refuses to let his assistants talk to the media in an effort to keep them low-profile and hinder their chances for advancement. He treats every injury like it's a state secret and puts the secrecy of his injury report even above the safety of his players. He also breaks up marraiges and engages in many other non-classy behaviors. I think he's a real student of the game, and I'd LOVE to sit down and just pick his brain for a day, but as a person, I just don't like him, and I think he deserves to squirm a little bit.

I also hate a very large portion of the Patriots fanbase. They have probably the biggest amount of bandwagon fans in the nation, and it pisses me off. I would say that their fans are, on average, less educated and more obnoxious than the average fans, simply because they feel a sense of entitlement to success when they couldn't care less about the team while they were laying this foundation for success. Obviously I don't hate all Patriots fans- I have several good friends who were fans through the dark years, who are very knowledgeable and appreciate their good fortune- but the bad fans are far and away the most visible section. Also, I think chanting "Yankees Suck" after New England won its first superbowl was the most boorish, most classless, most unappreciative behavior any fan base has ever exhibited in the history of professional football. It really makes my blood boil that a team could work so hard to deliver a championship to their loyal fanbase, and that fanbase would respond by immediately badmouthing a rival IN ANOTHER FREAKING SPORT. Miami fans once failed to sell out a home playoff game, which is bad, but at least the fans who went to the game were there for FOOTBALL. Just talking about the incident pisses me off all over again.

So, to sum up... I don't hate the franchise, I don't hate the ownership, I don't hate the players, and I don't hate the loyal fans, but I absolutely loathe Belichick and the bandwagon fans, and wish there was some way to punish them with a lifetime of 0-16 seasons without likewise punishing the good fans or the rest of the franchise.

Patriot & Red Sox Fans are some of the most obnoxious fans in sports. A lot of their fans refer to the players by their first names...like they know them.

BURN PATRIOTS, BURN!

Are the Boston Witch trials back in season????By the way, I think I hate False starts and delay of game penalties more than I hate the Pats......they are good....so I hate em

What a lame post, amidst a scandal... trying to indirectly imply criticsm is a result of hating the Pats by a common foe.

What next... a "Do You Hate Dogs?" post and what Falcons foe you root for...

Face up... they got caught.

I'm a Panther homer, and I don't hate the Patriots. They aren't one of my favorite teams thats for sure, but I don't hate them either. I find that some of their fans have a high level of annoyingness, but there are some fans of other teams I find annoying too. The Patriots domination over the last few years has been nauseating at times, but the media hasn't helped that by force feeding them down everyone's throats. I don't like Rodney Harrison, because I think he takes cheap shots often. The rest of the team I like just fine. I don't like Bill Belichick, because I think he is a jerk. Do I now think the Patriots may have cheated in the Super Bowl against the Panthers, I don't know. If they did cheat, they didn't do a very good job of it. The game was very close, and exciting to watch. The Panthers had their chance to take the game into overtime. They exhibited bad clock management at the end by not letting the clock run out more while they were in the redzone. There was no reason to rush, but they called a timeout stopping the clock before making the touchdown on the upcoming play. They gave the ball back to the Patriots with too much time left on the clock, and then there was Kasay's terrible kick off giving them great field position. I wish the Panthers had won, but it was a great entertaining game. Thinking back on it, I think the real winner of that Super Bowl was Janet Jackson. She got more press than she has ever gotten in her life. Most of the talk after the game wasn't about what a great game it was, and that the Patriots won by a field goal with seconds left. Most of the talk was about Janet Jackson flashing her boobie on national television. That sister sure knows how to steal someone's thunder.

Can we combine all of these Patriot threads so there is some room for threads that relate to fantasy football?

Bronco fan. I have no problem with the Pats, their fans, or their coach. In fact, the Pats are my second fav team.

This poll is flawed. And so is this thread!

I'm a Colts fan who doesn't happen to hate the Pats.

Where is that listed?

More people hate Patriots fans than hate the Patriots.

As to why that is, I present you Exhibit A.
Then there's my brother-in-law who knew NOTHING about the NFL until he moved here from Holland and married my sister. Their first place together was in Maine and so he became a Pats fan. To top it off, he's a know-it-all. :boxing: for my sister not "educating" him to root for :moneybag:
