Patriots RB Situation Post Bye (1 Viewer)

PACKER 7

From the looks of the Pats schedule after the bye week they have it pretty easy from a fantasy point of view.

Most of the teams left are giving up a ton of points right now.

Which made me ask the question which one of their RBs is going to emerge, if any?

Maroney was the pseudo starter in week 1, then week 2 not so much, then injured.

Sammy Morris has had bright spots, but nothing too impressive.

Jordan is kind of hanging around and also banged up.

I just don't understand why a guy like Maroney, if healthy, wouldn't be a stud if given the chance. Especially now that the Pats must rely on the run more.

I remember Shanahan saying he was the best back in the draft when he came out or something.

Anyway, if one can emerge, it seems to me that they are a great buy low candidate right now.

My money is on Maroney, but I don't have any good reason.

What are your opinions? Who would you target if any to trade for?

Shanahan also said that Kevan Barlow was the best back during the 2001 draft when the 49ers selected him

I've watched every snap Maroney has had. I just don't see it. I think what he is now is what he is going to be.

As for the backfield, I'd stay away from it in fantasy. Morris has probably looked the best and most consistent, and Jordan looked great in clock-killing duty in the Chiefs game. Maroney has been his usual self - a couple flashes here and there, but generally just way too inconsistent. He hesitates when he runs, and he doesn't do well between the tackles. Then there's the nagging injuries.

Factor in that Faulk is taking most of the 3rd downs, and that cuts the pie down even more. It's going to be some kind of split, I don't know what kind, but I don't think anyone will emerge as a consistent fantasy start.

Sammy Morris would be my best guess but truthfully you need to look at the Pats defense to tell how much the pats are going to run the ball.

Their defense is playing really bad right now and with them giving up so many points the running game has been almost abandoned.

I would not put much faith in any of the three backs right now and would not be trying to acquire them either. I think Miami showed the blue print for beating the

Patriots and now other teams will follow.

Why can't people learn to just say no?
 NE is where RB's go to die..
I thought Cory Dillon had a nice career revival in NE.I agree this is a quagmire for a Fantasny RB. I took a chance and picked up L Jordan cheap. I had the roster spot and his long term opportunity gives me some hope. Granted, Maroney & Morris both have to get hurt at the same time for his value to peak, but I can wait.

Here's the deal on Maroney. He's soft. Belichick knows it and that trait hasn't endeared him to the coaching staff. Being the alleged mastermind that Belichick is, he would much rather have him healthy and rarin' to go when the games mean something in December and January so I would expect a big clusterf while every back gets a chance to carry some of the load. The time to be trading for Maroney is right around mid-November.

I have Maroney taking up a roster spot on my bench right now. I'm not sure when or if I'm ever going to play the guy.

What are your thoughts on dropping him outright? Does anybody think that he has ANY trade value at this point?

I actually tried to package Maroney with some WRs to try to upgrade at RB to Steven Jackson as the owner wasn't even starting for him. I kept getting rejected. I offered Maroney + Chambers and Maroney + Bowe. Turns out he preferred Mendenhall over Maroney. I dealt Calvin Johnson + Mendenhall + Bryant Johnson for SJax + Roddy White. So at least in my league Mendenhall has more value than Maroney right now. I'm not planning on dropping Maroney. He can still have an impact late in the year.
