Patriots Will Beat Steelers By Double Digits (1 Viewer)

BookMaker Sports Book currently has the line as the Patriots -3.Here's some random stats to ponder:The Patriots are 5-1 Against The Spread in their last 6 games as a road favorite. The Pats are 15-5-1 ATS in their last 21 games following a ATS loss.New England is 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games as a favorite. The Patriots are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games overall. The Patriots are 6-14 ATS in their last 20 games after allowing less than 90 yards rushing in their previous game.Pittsburgh is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games following a S.U. win.The Steelers are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following a ATS win.The Steelers are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games after allowing less than 90 yards rushing in their previous game. The Steelers are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games after accumulating more than 250 yards passing in their previous game. The Steelers are 6-13-2 ATS in their last 21 games after scoring more than 30 points in their previous game.
I don't think "random" means what you think it means.

The reason they lost by 28 was they turned the ball over 7 times i believe, not becuase flacco is an all world QB. But hey, go ahead & drop a bunch of $ on the pats and give those points. And if you would like to make a wager on them scoring 72 i'll gladly pony up what ever you like. As long as the steelers beat new england i wouldnt care if they lost every game the rest of the year. I can't freakin stand belicheat and tammy brady. This has to be the most annoying & arrogant organization in sports. I wonder how many plays into the game tammy, i mean tom will be screaming for a personal foul because he landed on is ###### too hard.
Well at least you have a rational perspective on things.
When the Steelers beat Belichick 3x in one year in 1994, they weren't mad at him at all. I suppose that season heavily influenced his decision to build his Patriots to beat the Steelers. It was respect. He felt to get to the Super Bowl in the AFC, you had to beat Pittsburgh. So he runs this spread offense specifically to beat them.

Belichick, and especially Brady, have a history of one-upping others in the league. Manning throws for 49 TDs in a season? Brady throws for 50. Cam Newton throws for 420 on Sunday in week 1? Brady throws for 520 on Monday. This is a recurring pattern with these guys - if someone starts grabbing headlines for offensive output, it's a sure bet that B&B will quickly follow up with an even better performance.

Why do I bring that up? The Saints just put up 62 points the other night. I'll let you connect the dots, but if the spread on this game is any less than Pats -20 it's free money.
I don't think the Patriots put up 62 against the Steelers at home.
I don't think they'll stop at 62 either. The all-time record is 72, right? That's their floor for this week imo.Let's not forget that the Steelers haven't won a single game against a good opponent all year. The one good team they played beat them by 28.

The more I think about it, this is definitely setting up to be a record-shattering blowout.
You mean that "good" team that lost in Jax on Monday night, and didn't get a first down until 40 minutes into the game? ;) That 28 point win was a fluke, not a typical type of a Steelers/Ravens game. I don't put any stock in that game.

The Steelers offense is going to have to come up big in this game for them to win because **** LeBeau has yet to come up with a scheme to stop Brady. My personal feeling is you have to play the DBs up and bring pressure up the middle to have a chance against Brady. He will likely beat you deep anyway but if the DBs give a big cushion and Brady has time he will carve them up. This has been the story virtually every time he plays the Steelers. That said this is the NFL and pretty much anything can happen so I wouldn't give too many points away. The Patriotys score 30+ every week but the Steelers have the weapons on offense to put up some points too.My prediction: Patriots 35Steelers 27
Just watch some tape from Rob Ryan's defense. That is how you stop the Patriots. They are no better then any other team just get pressure on Brady. If this game is at Pitt they will win.

That only strengthens my point. The Steelers aren't a good team - certainly nowhere near as good as their record would indicate - and they won't be able to prevent the Pats from setting another record this Sunday.

Herp derp, to stop any team in the NFL you just get pressure on the QB.Yet, every knows and has known this forever, Pitts defense isnt moving forward these days, the Pats Oline is still at the top.

Hmmm.... just pressure Brady you say? It's surprising more teams haven't thought of this approach. The Cowboys game was far more about the turnovers than the QB pressure. To beat the Pats you generate turnovers, just ask the Bills.

This may sound strange, but I smell a shootout and too many people like the Pats. Steelers 45Pats 33
I like it for a shootout as well. PIT 38 - NEP 35 :towelwave: Oh, and Welker goes 10 - 130 - 2TD :moneybag:
If Ike Taylor Covers Welker exclusively I doubt Welker breaks 80 yards. Taylor was like a blanket on Fitzgerald last week. The Steelers will exploit the Patriots through the air, and the Pitt D will slow down Brady enough to win.31-27 Steelers.

He probably won't though as Welker lines up in the slot.

Taylor is typically assigned the best WR to cover all over the field. I expect he will be on Welker.

In a sense, you are both correct. There's been a fair amount of discussion in Pittsburgh this week over whether or not Ike will cover Welker all game because, as moondog says, Ike usually covers the #1 WR, but as Drunken Cowboy says, Welker plays from the slot. Typically, Ike does not cover slot receivers. So this is a fairly unique situation.I lean toward Taylor covering Welker most of the game, but it's just a mildly educated guess. I cannot recall what happened last season specific to Taylor and Welker.

Clearly the Ryan brothers know how to play Brady and BB. With the Ravens and Pats, Rex more often than not has designed schemes that get in Brady's head and Rob has done the same whether with the Brownies or Cowboys. I buy Godsbrother's ideas for why the Steelers scheme has traditionally failed, but what are the Ryan boys doing?

After last year, I fear Gronk more than Welker. Missing Timmons on the inside is going to be a key, but interestingly, it might just fall into the Steelers' favor. With Timmons paying Harrison's spot instead of the inside I think this leads to Polamalu covering Gronk. This has as good a potential as any to frustrate the Pats who normally see Troy playing deep, whereas Troy is best playing in a roaming lb space. Covering deep is a waste of his instincts imo. There is history of Troy covering top TEs (see Gates). Gronk will either block for run or release for pass and I trust Troy's ability to read that well. I'd like to see them tempt the pats to go deep and let Ike cover Welker. If the Pats go deep it keeps Brady back a second longer and more in the sight of Steeler's outside rush, and if Welker goes deep it falls into Ike's strength. If they dink and dunk the Steelers have a better chance to swarm/attack and maybe even miraculously force a turnover. A guy can dream can't he?!

The Pats will do what they always do against Ben. Seal the left side and force him to stay in the pocket and make decisions. This will inevitably lead to a turnover or two and not allow Pittsburgh to keep up with the Patriot offense. It's how and why they drink the Steelers milkshake just about every time they play.

Isn't it surprising more teams have not thought of the turn over thingy to. Rob Ryan's scheme has worked vs Brady two times now. Apparently he knows how to get pressure on Brady so maybe like I said go look at the tape of what he is doing. Really the TO'S in the Dallas game were not that big. Dallas's 10 penalties pretty much made up for that. I mean till that last 80 year drive when Dallas went to the PREVENT (THE WIN) DEFENSE. They had really stopped Brady for over 2 straight quarters. Both teams made mistakes so I would not say that was why Dallas held Brady to 20 points it was more the scheme and pressure which created some of them TO's.

Really starting to get a feeling in my gut that Mendy is going to have a big game.

Steelers have been passing, passing, passing. Mendy plays best at home. Pats have to be trying to take away the WRs. It just seems so crazy that it just may happen.

I think Mendy has a big day. Not sure Steelers win, but I think the script is going to be much different than I thought all week.

Any thoughts?

ike taylor will rarely cover welker in this game since he'll line up in the slot (like the earlier poster stated). also agree that mendenhall should have a solid if not spectacular game. nonetheless, the steelers haven't beaten anyone this year and the Pats have a favorable matchup. add Belicheck coming off a bye--i'll say 38-24 pats.

NE has beaten Miami, SanDiego, Oakland, NY Jets, and Dallas...not exactly world beaters if you're going to compare schedules at this point...considering San Diego has sucked so far this year and Dallas hasn't lit anybody up except St.Louis so far...Not to mention they lost to Buffalo who has the 31st ranked defense in the league...

all this talk of ne winning large has me stressed as a pats fan. as a wagerer, i have covered both sides of this game. as a mike wallace and antonio brown subscription contest owner, i'm conflicted, lol. standard answer: turnovers will decide the outcome.

I still don't think it'll be the points bonanza many seem to be predicting. I can definitely see BB pounding the rock 25+ against a very average Steelers run D, thus shortening the game.

only have to average slightly under 25 a quarter now for the record

Might have been the worst call ive seen in Pittsburgh, Gronkowski was clearly across the line...
No challenge?
3 Timeouts down by one possession, could go either way, but it was a terrible call the red flag shouldnt have to come out.
Pretty tight call in real time.
The only way its not a clear TD is if literally no Ref was looking in the endzone. Its hard to miss the only 6'6" guy on the field.

I gotta say now. The Steelers have shot their wad. They have no chance at making the playoffs, much less the Super Bowl.

The Ravens & Bengals will both finish ahead of them in the division.

Well, well well that great patriot record setting offense. Steelers just gave everyone a blue print on how to thrash new england. You certainly don't have to worry about a vertical game from the patriots because i dont think they throw any passes over 5 yards. And their defense is absolutely pathetic, probably the worst in the league. You really dont need to bring a running back on the field, just throw EVERY down and youre golden. I LOVE IT!!!!

Two things:1) Knowing what to do and being able to do are two different things.2) Just because something worked once doesn't mean it will again. The Patriots are going to be in the thick of the AFC playoff mix. Of this I have no doubt.

That's twisted. The blueprint as you've described it was passed from Miami to Eric Mangini to Rob Ryan to **** LeBeau. Miami has had disproportionate success against Brady since he took over from Bledsoe. The surprising part is that it took Pittsburg this long to adjusting their defensive approach to the spread attack. Just saying.

Maybe but what the Steelers really did was turn the tables on the Patriots and use the spread attack on offense against them. The Steelers dominated the time of possession and did so by passing the ball. The best way to keep Brady from hurting you is to keep him on the sideline.
