PATS @ LIONS -- *Game Thread* (1 Viewer)

Stafford is playing off the hook against a good D. This guy will be top 5 if he is healthy for 16 games. Unreal.

Brady is a completely different QB when the pocket collapses.

I just remembered how bad a commentator Dan Dierdorf is.

Suh needs to keep his temper in check.
He's still young but it's that same temper and ferocity that makes him the player he is. I'll take a 15 yard personal foul once in awhile as a fan if I get the quality of play that I'm getting as of now. But you're right, he has to find a balance.

Say what you want about the meaning of preseason but the Lions just hung 27 points on NE's starters in the first half of the dress rehearsal game for the regular season. There's something to be seen here.

The punch was lame and should have been flagged, but when the opposing team is on the face mask of your team mate, you come in hard and heavy. I am ok with Suh and the penalties he will get.Man's Game.Peace

No way that should have been a penalty on Suh. Was just an open hand poke/jab, IMO. He was just sticking up for his teammate.+1 to the Diedorf is a moron comment.

Can't think of one QB who's not. Matter of fact, can't think of why they shouldn't be.
Vick? The good news is the Patriots o-line pass protects very well against most teams. They did a terrible job tonight.
Vick actually reacts differently moreso now when the pocket collapses than when he was strictly a runner with a great arm. Still, when he has a pocket it's his job to stay in and make his reads and when it breaks down he scrambles. A different QB based on circumstances. Perhaps I am missing something that you're implying here?Yes, NE O-line got abused tonight. Won't happen often but Detroit looks damn good and came to play.

When was the last time that the stands were still full after half time in a preseason game in the D?

God, I have goosebumps....

Peace

Set the game to record this morning, threw it on at 11 and found out I had three hours of radar images and idiots standing around in a hurricane telling me how windy and rainy it is. :hot:

Ummmm, buy Stafford if u can
Real believers drafted him in the 9th round or later in dynasty startups this year already. Slightly crazy, fanatic-level true believers drafted him then as their starter. ;)And backed him up with Shawn Hill much later, of course.

From a Pats standpoint, this game was eerily reminiscent of their playoff loss against the Jets - of course, this is preseason, but their OL was overwhelmed, Brady was getting smacked around and was inaccurate, Stafford had all day to throw, the secondary couldn't make a play, there was little to no running game to speak of, etc.

Stafford looks reeeeall good, though. I hope he stays healthy this year, as he could really become something special in the next few years.

I love the intensity but if he doesn't cool it a bit he'll end up getting suspended before it's all said and done.

Tim Toone moving up the draft boards...
That idiot chopped Mayo's legs
That was horrible... If I was Goodell I'd suspend anyone who intentionally throws a chop block! 1 game automatic!!! Unless the opposing player is injured then I say the offender should be suspended indefinitely. He can come back when the victim comes back. if it's a carrier injury then it's a lifetime ban!

Tulloch does not get many interceptions or sacks....lol...at least is can tackle.
Yeah, too bad his ### cant catch!!! I'd take him, in a heart beat, over what the Lions had last year though!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No doubt, the LB core is a huge upgrade over the mess we had last year. I am even confident the secondary will hold its own. Tulloch just looked clueless on how to defend against a pass. He just took after the receiver like he was going to tackle him with no idea where the ball was. He was just lucky the pass hit his ### as he was hitting the receiver, otherwise it was pass interference. I think he has only one sack in his career, although the Lions did blitz him last night and he did get close to the QB, so that could change.

Tulloch does have weaknesses for sure, but there is one thing he does do as well as anyone and that is tackle. The run defense will be much better with Tulloch in the middle.

A few of my random thoughts on the Lions preseason so far:

Spievey has been every bit as good as Delmas. That could be a pretty nice pair of young safeties.

It seems like every game Brandon McDonald makes 1 or 2 really nice plays in his limited time with the first team defense.

I can't remember a Lion defense that was this fast and this aggressive. At times to a detriment.

Detroit isn't going to generate any kind of inside running game this year. The Lions will need to use a lot of short high % passes in lieu of the run game.

So far, I really like the what I've seen which is impressive considering none of the 3 rookies have made any impact.

Hernandez showing good hands and looking light on his feet; Gronkowski is a beast.
So which one should come off the board first, again?
Unsure*2. Gronkowski will probably come off the board first which might make Hernandez the better value. There was a post late last season that detailed how one TE shined more than the other depending on the coverage of the opposing D. It's on my to-do list to dig that up (unless somebody wants to do the heavy lifting for me).
Don't forget that the reason you suddenly stopped seeing Hernandez all the time is that he was nursing a hip injury that was very limiting. He had surgery to repair it in the offseason. I think his injury had far more to do with his appearance/disappearance.

This Detroit Defense is bad-###. Really like what I've seen from them this year, and when Fairley and Vanden Bosh get in the lineup,it's going to be even better. Stafford is amazingly accurate, and the combination of their offense and defense, they will be a force to be reckoned with in the NFC.As far as the Pats D goes, they were playing with a skeleton crew. Don't expect it to be this bad during the regular season.
