Pats/Saints Trade (1 Viewer)

This is the same Sullivan that while on the DL last year decided to head up to the press box and take food from the media brunch before a game. He is about as dumb and unmotivated as a person with millions can be. Belichek will have him waived by August.
We'll see if Sully can pass BB's infamous "conditioning run" prior to training camp. If he's that out of shape, he won't even make it to camp for weeks.

anyone else think the Patriots will use more 4-3 fronts this year?

they are ridiculusly deep on the defensive line but their linebacker depth is not looking so great.

I've been advocating that for the past year or so. Not only do the Pats have better D-Line depth, the quality of starters is much higher on the line. Throw in the fact that their two best D-linemen are DE/DT hybrids (warren and seymour), giving them all sorts of options in terms of where to line up guys. And I'd really like to see what Vince Wilfork could do when he's not being double-teamed as the point of the 3-4.

The Pats are not ridiculously deep at D Line. This is a misconception many have (including Patriot fans). They have an all world trio in Seymour-Wilfork-Warren. After that they have a super sub in Jarvis Green who's a jack of all trades and would start on quite a few teams. From 1-4 they're as good as you get. Yet, after that there's a whole lotta question marks. They have Marquis Hill who has not been developing although he's the biggest human I have ever seen. Klecko isn't getting it done and Mike Wright is still a work in progress. They also drafted Le Kevin Smith and have Santonio Thomas but you really don't know what you have with these two until the pads go on. Also, Sullivan's a potential nice addition but with his history who knows what you have there.Hopefully some of these question marks turn into contributors but right now it's all speculation. That's why I would have liked to see a cost-friendly veteran added to the mix as insurance.

by my count, they now have 4 players who were drafted in the first round, 1 that was recently drafted in the 2nd round, and a very solid backup DE in Jarvis Green. Obviously, draft round isn't always the best indicator of talent/depth, but they are in very good shape compared to most teams and all of those players are still young and improving.

They're in good shape but they're not deep until some of these guys show something. If Hill and Sully show something (to date they haven't and they've played five years between them) than I could not agree with you more. They would be stacked. Yet, right now the bottomline is there is a potentially major dropoff off after their top four. If two of their top four got injured than they would have to rely on some unproven talent. Hell, just losing Seymour last year was a major blow than hurt them badly.I agree that this is an are of starting strength for the Pats. No doubt about it. Yet, the backups are still a mystery. If one or two develop this group could be as good as there is. Yet, until the pads go on the Hills, Sullivans, Wrights, Smiths and others are still question marks and are lagging far behind the top four. No ones rooting harder for them than me but they need to be productive before I have faith in them.

And possibly sooner ... SULLIVAN ARRESTED: Former Saints defensive lineman Johnathan Sullivan was arrested Sunday morning and charged with possession of marijuana, a seat belt violation, running two stop signs and playing loud music in Griffin, Ga., according to police reports....

time for BB to give him whatever speech he gave to Dillon to make him behave

Something says his stay with the Pats will be very short. The kid was probably already on double secret probation to begin with. If the lightbulb didn't go off after getting dealt for virtually nothing out of New Orleans it may never go off. The downside of this is the Pats need D Line depth. If Hill doesn't pan out and Smith and Wright can't cut it they would be an injury or two from having a very dicey situation upfront.

Gee, I wonder if Sully stuck out...a huge guy in a small town lunging some weed, cranking tunes and driving like an idiot. Oh, and it was 4:00am to boot. Sounds like he has the IQ of a kicking tee.

If we got anything more than a pack of corn nuts for this guy I consider it a lopsided trade in our favor...

I feel the same way about Bethel. This could turn out to be the most irrelevant trade in sports history.
