Pats sign Stallworth (Contract Offer) (1 Viewer)

With that said, if I was Stallworth, I would keep looking and try and get a more desperate team like the Titans to squeeze more money out of.

Career-wise, the Pats spread the ball out way too much for him to think this will really jump-start his career.

But there it is.

(Title has now been changed to contract offered to Stallworth)

It is being reported the Eagles have sent a contract offer to Stallworth as well. We'll see how this shakes out

I know as an owner of Stallworth in a dynasty league i pray he stays with the Birds!!! NE is a fantasy death for w WR!!

Pats, Stallworth Agree to Six-Year Deal

ComcastSportsNet.com

The New England Patriots have agreed to a six-year, $32 million deal with wide receiver Donté Stallworth.

The contract has been confirmed to Comcast SportsNet by the office of Drew Rosenhaus, Stallworth's agent.

In 12 games last season, his first with the Eagles after arriving in a trade with the Saints, Stallworth had 38 receptions for 725 yards and five touchdowns. He missed four games with a hamstring injury.

I see this as money well spent.

I've heard he really wants to play

for New England. Seems like a great

deal money wise for the Patriots.

OK, so the pecking order is.... ???

1) Stallworth

2) Caldwell

3) Welker

4) Gaffney

5) Chad Jackson not a factor due to injury.

Does that look about right to you guys?

Is it at least possible Gaffney beats out Caldwell for the No. 2 given his superior downfield blocking?

1. Stallworth2. welker (has better/reliable hands)3. Gaffney4. Caldwell (where he should be on any team)5. JacksonThats where I'd put it

I think Stallworth will be fine in NE. The Pats do spread the ball around, but one of the reasons they do that is because they never really had a bona fide #1 guy IMO. Branch was pretty decent and I think Stallworth could end up putting up better numbers than he did in this offense if he remains healthy and off the drugs. He's a great deep threat and Brady isn't afraid to chuck up the ball.

If this is a real deal, why would the Pats offer a six year / 32 Million dollar deal for someone that was looking to play for a year to prove himself?

Around the league, there are questions about Stallworth's character. But Stallworth is willing to take a one-year deal with New England, the team he would love to play for if he doesn't return to Philadelphia, to prove his value to the Patriots and around the league.

Wow, the historically tight-fisted Pats are sure throwing around some coin this offseason. First Adalius Thomas, then Welker and now Stallworth.

I guess that's what happens when Manning finally beats you.

Tuesday, March 6

Free agent wide receiver Donte Stallworth received an offer from the New England Patriots. He is scheduled to meet Wednesday with Titans officials in Tennessee and with the Dolphins on Thursday.

I had been silently thinking this very thing for the past couple of days. I think they realized that last year's cut-rate roster wasn't going to win them any championships with the likes of Indy and San Diego in their conference, with Pittsburgh and Denver close behind, and with the upstart Jets in their division.

yes, tight fisted and someone spending their cap almost every year (last year being an exception). Don't think of them as tight fisted because they won't pay a few players over inflated prices at the cost of the rest of the team. The Colts beating them the way they did definitely have kicked the Pats in gear though....I felt they needed a wakeup call and they got it! :moneybag:

Good point - and one obviously can't argue with the previous success of that strategy.

Are you guys talking about a different Donte Stallworth or the one who had all those hamstring problems in New Orleans?

I'll give you Wes Welker, he's fast as hell, smart and comes to play all the time, but Donte Stallworth? gimme a break.

Donte Stallworth is $$$ if he's healthy. But that's a gigantic if, and not one I'm sure the Patriots are wise to spend $36 million on. I'm sure he'll be good for a few games, but if he's only going to play up to 12 games a year, this could just be bad news all around. In any case, it makes the Patriots depth BETTER, because the starters from last year have become backups. So I will not be worried - Reche/Gaffney with another year in the system could be great, and if they never have to play, we get Stallworth/Welker sprinting downfield a lot.

STILL NO DEAL FOR STALLWORTH

Contrary to a report on ComcastSportsNet.com that receiver Donte' Stallworth has a deal with the New England Patriots, Profootballtalk.com has learned that there is no agreement.

As an Eagles fan, I'll be sad to see him go. If he could have stayed healthy, he and McNabb could have been great. McNabb's strength is the deep ball. However, if he thinks the Eagles will match or top 6 years at $32 million with his hamstring and substance abuse issues, he's NUTS!

I like Stallworth. The Eagles spread it around too. That is why (along with missing 4 games) that he only caught 38 balls. However, he only needs to catch 50 balls to get 1000 yds because he is such a deep threat. Brady was great throwing the deep ball in 2005 but nobody knew it because his target wasnt always the same. He used Tim Dwight, Andre Davis and Givens equally. Brady throws a great deep ball and that part of his game was really missing last year.

If they get Stallworth signed, I think it will be a very good signing and I also feel that the corp of receivers that the Pats have are well rounded:

Stallworth = Deep Threat

Caldwell and Gaffney = Intermediate possession receivers

Welker = Slot receiver

Although it appears like the Pats are "throwing money around", they are doing it within the cap and arent going to have to cut players because of these deals. The Deals also seem to be (we dont know all the details) within their pay structure. Thomas will be the 2nd highest paid defender and should be. They didnt break the bank for him. Depending on our they structure his contract, $5 million a year for Stallworth is not out of line. The originally reported Welker deal looks very high but it appears it will look more like 5 years and $18 million which looks about right. They gave Kyle Brady a little more than you would expect but a lot less than Graham costs.

I LOVE what the Pats have done and we still have 2 1st rounders. :bag:

I'm not sure what the collective bargaining rules are but I would not be surprised to find out that there is a provision in the contract that he has to return a specified portion of his signing bonus if he has a further violation. Its like insurance. Again, not sure if that is kosher under the collective bargaining agreement.

NESN reporting Stallworth to Pats a done deal.Looking for sources/details...Edit:NESN Ticker: ComcastSportsNet is reporting that Donte Stallworth has reached an agreement with the Patriots
This news just hit the wire.I'll be pissed is we give him the reported deal. I'll take Donte with a 1 year prove himself deal, but not that insane crap we are throwing at him now. He is the J.D. Drew of WRs, except when Drew is healthy he is a much more dominating player.

If it is within the salary cap and doesnt screw up resigning anyone else (and I am not sure who comes up in the next couple of years, quick look at the cap looks like most if not all essential players are signed), why do you care if Stallworth got a good contract? I like Stallworth and think his past injuries have been exaggerated. He did miss 4 games last year early but played every game from week 7 on last year including 2 playoff games.

So did he really sign or not, cause i'm hearin yes and no. And by the way whoever said Stallworth is money when he's healthy, he's almost never healthy and when he is healthy he's a notorius under achiever. Quick to give up on plays and his team, add in the substance abuse and he's not exactly a prizewinner

Stallworth played 16 games in both 2004 and 2005 but missed 4 games early last year. Did not miss a game after week 7. His injuries are exaggerated.

He's played 13 or less games in 3 of his 5 years. Sure, he's stayed healthy two years, but that's not exactly a great track record.
