Pats Sign TE (1 Viewer)

I wouldn't expect Gronk to practice yet but Pats signing a TE may be a big deal.http://www.nfl.com/superbowl/story/09000d5d82657ec3/article/ankle-injury-will-keep-patriots-gronkowski-from-practicing?module=HP11_headline_stack
He was signed to the practice squad to replace another practice squad TE who was put on IR yesterday.

The Pats needed another TE to run plays in practice. I doubt there is much too this. Gronk should play in the SB and will get pharmacological assitance if need be.

Gronk's dad: Tight end has high-ankle sprain

Rob Gronkowski's father, Gordy, revealed earlier in the week that the tight end's sprain is of the "high-ankle" variety.

Gordy expects Rob to be "fine" for the Super Bowl, which dovetails with the working narrative out of New England this week. Gronk does have significant ligament damage, though, so it's fair to wonder just how effective he can be at far less than 100 percent. The Giants could opt to leave Deon Grant or Michael Boley in single coverage, freeing up extra defenders for Aaron Hernandez and Wes Welker.

Dude was running and jumping around after the game. with no sign of hinderance. 14 days of the best care in the world. I'd say he'll be 95% at the very, very least. If they single cover him he will destroy them.Another tidbit:

Giants LB Jacquian Williams showed up to the team facility with a walking boot on his foot Friday.

The extent of Williams' injury is unclear, but he is one of New York's primary nickel linebackers alongside SLB Michael Boley. Williams' absence from the Super Bowl would be worrisome because the Giants will likely be in constant nickel alignments against the Patriots. We'll have an update next week.

He was not ... when he went to the locker room he was walking hard and fast but he was limping badly.Injuries like this often get worse over the next few days. It's a HAS and everybody on this site knows the impact of a HAS and everybody that saw the injury knows it wasn't minor.

I am sure he will but there is no way in the world he is 95%.

Regarding the Giants ... they sat about 7 or 8 players and 2 or 3 had boots strictly as precautionary measure there were no serious injuries reported.

Sports radio reports tonight that he will need surgery after the Super Bowl. I'm sure he'll play, but he'll surely be hampered by it.

Gronk will definitely play. But as David Yudkin said, they need SOMEONE to play as him in practice so they can run the plays they want to use in the SB.

Mills returned to the Pats and IIRC he played in Minny and got some work in. I don't think there's any chance he plays significant minutes, but this dude has spent his whole career hoping to actually play for the Pats and there's no way some new signee goes in over him.

For a HAS? Does this indicate more damage? I don't recall hearing of other players getting surgery for just a HAS.
which means its likely a grade 3 sprain and if he plays at all he will be fairly useless.

Watching the video as they went to the locker room.... I saw no limp. None.He was also spinning, twisting and turning while throwing his sweat bands to the crowd.

Maybe its a structural thing that does need surgery, but can be played/medicated through.

OK ... Pats Sign TE

Gronk not Practicing

POPs says it's a high ankle sprain

HAS = 6 week injury

Gronk @ 60 - 70% best case
OK ... Updated

[*]Pats Sign TE

[*]Gronk not Practicing

[*]POPs says it's a high ankle sprain

[*]Grade I to II HAS = 6 week injury - Bad Grade II or Grade III = Surgery

[*]Gronk Requires Surgery meaning he has a bad Grade II or III HAS

[*]Gronk @ 40 - 60% best case for SB

[*]Still slightly Dangerous on Short Routes ... Useless as a Blocker or Deep Routes

I think Gronk will have little impact IF he even plays ...I really hope this doesn't affect him next year.

Probably more like an ingrown toenail that will get surgically corrected after the SB. One thing about Belicek... he never spins those injury reports or does things to make opponents think a player's status is better or worse than they might imagine. Yup, Gronk isn't practicing, so BB is a real dirtbag because he listed Gronk as questionable and everyone is speculating he won't be a factor come game time.

Maybe its a structural thing that does need surgery, but can be played/medicated through.
The Boston Globe reports that Rob Gronkowski will likely need his injured left ankle scoped following the Super Bowl.Beat reporter Shalise Manza Young confirms that Gronk will play in Super Bowl XLVI, but his ankle will need to be "cleaned up" due to apparent ligament damage

that's the report, anyway.

we'll find out how effective he is in another week, but I wouldn't bet against him.

Gronkowski will likely not practice all before the Super Bowl

You got your wish. Gronk was single covered all game and was beaten for an interception by a street FA. Can we all now agree that if a player has a HAS they will not be effective for several weeks. Still can't explain why he was at Cure lounge dancing the night away after getting injured though.
