Paul Thompson- #3 QB for Packers? (1 Viewer)

Recent reports said that Paul Thompson has impressed Packers staff with his strong arm and athleticism so Thompson has a shot to unseat Ingle Martin as the #3 QB. With Rodgers receiving lukewarm confidence from the Packers staff, Thompson could have a shot at #2 QB spot next year if he is able to win #3 QB this year.

Im not to fond of the term that "it's all a ploy to motivate X" but I think this is a classic example of it. Thompson hasnt been getting all that many reps so I dont even know how the Packers staff can come to that conclusion.

From Packersnews.com:

08/07/07

(7-on-7): Favre 19-for-33 (8-for-14); Aaron Rodgers 14-for-21 (4-for-7); Ingle Martin 6-for-7 (3-for-3); Paul Thompson 1-for-1 (1-for-1); Robert Ferguson 0-for-1.

08/06/07

(7-on-7 in parentheses): Brett Favre 22-for-29 (6-for-10); Rodgers 6-for-7 (12-for-21); Ingle Martin 5-for-7, INT (1-for-2); and Paul Thompson 1-for-1 (1-for-1).

and so on...

Those stats have been like that all training camp. Thompson will be put on the practice squad.

From the article -While Thompson's repetitions are limited when Favre practices — he gets one snap at most out of every five — he gets more playing time when Favre is out, as he was Tuesday morning. During that practice, Thompson threw back-to-back touchdown passes during an 11-on-11 session, lasering a picture-perfect pass to wide receiver Chris Francies on an out route against cornerback Frank Walker and lofting a high touch pass over linebacker Desmond Bishop to tight end Donald Lee.

I don't mean this as negatively as it is going to sound, but I have two questions -

Who really cares who the third or fourth QB is in GB, and why should this board care in general?

Well, if you're in a dynasty league and are looking for Favre's successor, you care. And it sure sounds like people aren't sold on Rodgers, so you look for the next guy. Favre is playing one more year in my opinion. So trying to find that flyer QB that works out is what this post is about. If it doesn't apply to your league, I would just breeze past it.Also, that statement below is pretty rediculous. "With Rodgers receiving lukewarm confidence from the Packers staff". Where the hell is that coming from? All I heard was rave reviews about his conditioning, grasp of the offense, and level of commitment this season.

Agreed. Think that's called 'editorializing'. Rogers has looked much improved, by all accounts.
