Pawn Stars on History Channel (1 Viewer)

Rick's authority on the most arcane subjects is extraordinary.
They pre-arrange the item meetups so Rick has some time to do some internet research. I would too considering I'm offering $ for the item.

A recent show had some vinegar tins that were used in the 19th century to ward off BO. Who could possibly know anything about that? Or want to know anything about that?

I was trying to be sarcastic. I should have tried harder.

Rick enthusiastically over-explains the most obvious things.

Someone comes in with a guitar signed by the Beatles.

Rick: the Beatles were these four musicians from England who were very popular.

Someone brings in a Confederate sword.

Rick: the Civil War was a war that occurred during the 1860's and was between the North and South.

Could Chum working on that hot dog truck have been any more staged?

Yeah, I know ALL of it is staged, but now they're introducing storylines which have nothing to do with the pawn shop?

A long ago began fast-forwarding through anything that was not an item being shown. I wish they would get rid of the forced storylines.

This is what reality shows do when they've run their course. Usually after one maybe two seasons, that's when it's time to jump ship.

I don't really understand this. People want to see the items come into the shop and I would guess 99% of the people who watch the show feel that way, so why fill the show with so much lame acting and staged situations. It's terrible.

I enjoy the show but wish at some point they would indicate what the item eventually sold for and how long it sat in the shop.

Exactly. I just mash the 30-sec-skip button on my remote until we're back to the counters. 3 items per episode, I whip through in less than 10 minutes.

They need to realize that this is just Antiques Roadshow for the common man who won't watch PBS. People watch it for the items, the prices, and the history of the items.

Sad thing is he is probably educating somebody.

Doesn't suck as bad as American Trash Pickers. But it still sucks.
Nothing will suck as much as you though.

I used to watch AR all the time until I found out some of those guys were crooks.

Tonight was even worse. There is no way that Chumlee lives in that house. Total set-up.

The guy with the fake George Washington letter was pretty good. He wanted a hundred grand--got fifteen hundred.

Well, he wanted $3,500, then Rick teased that if it's real it could be worth $100k+. The better one was the negotiation on the tank. Guy wants $150k, expert says worth $25k, Rick offers $20k and guy responds least he will take is $95k.

The only thing more annoying than the fake behind the counter banter between the owners is the customers who are so incredibly defiant that their garbage is worth $100000.

I don't even want the expert to appraise it. Just get them out of there if you know you're not going to offer even 10% of what he wants. Next guy up.

This.

I hope this show ends with a robbery where everybody but the old man gets shot.

We lasted 9 minutes into tonight's show until Rick told someone that a beautiful Kunzite stone "is going to sit for a LONG time!"

"On tonight's episode of Pawn Stars, the Old Man gets a haircut. Rick gets his fingernails clipped. Up next!"

Noticed one of the barbers in a Suavecito-brand pomade shirt. Didn't think much of it. But later on Storage Hunters, one of the guys wore one too. Then he wore a different one later in the same episode. The bald guy, wearing a pomade company shirt. How much are they paying for the placements I wonder???

I'm trying not to be mean here, but Rick's buddy Roy who comes in with the Civil War hat and the long mutton chops...

he ain't easy on the eyes.

The UK version of this show is on H2. It is the same guy that Rick visited on the vacation to the UK show, so it was a spinoff setup show. Same stuff, different accent.

They might be on the verge of breaking records for "most spinoffs". American Restoration, Counting Cars, Cajun Pawn Stars, Pawn Stars UK... and apparently another one in the works. If Rick's getting a cut of the spinoffs he must be doing really well for himself.

You know more about TV than the rest of us, but why would he profit? I assume he doesn't own the production company which created his show.

He has a producer title. That entitles him to a portion of the back-end money. I do not know if he has always had the producer title, or if it was just in recent seasons. Certain producer contract structures may entitle him to portions of spinoffs as well.
