Peavy To The White Sox (1 Viewer)

I can't believe the White Sox traded for a guy that is hurt and may not come back this year.

Can't believe Peavy signed off on the trade this time - I guess he's finally figured out Padres are never going anywhere during his career.

4/5's of the starting rotation for the Padres is currently out injured, I guess they needed some more arms pretty badly

- Buehrle (signed through '11)

- Floyd (signed through '12)

- Danks (control - arbitration - through '12)

- Peavy (signed through '12; option for '13)

This rotation is going to be absolutely filthy.

So he waived his no trade clause now after invoking it a few months ago
I know I was thinking the same thing, what happened that changed?
According to his agent, Peavy approved the trade because it came down to pitching for a team that really wanted him vs. pitching for a team that did not want him. Quote per Axlerod and MLB.TV
So, what really changed? Williams wanted him back then and still did.

So the White Sux traded for a hurt pitcher? Nice...
If he gets healthy then Yanks/Redsox vs Whitesox in wildcard game
Are you claiming the WS would win the Wild-Card? That...is not happening.
I am claiming that if Peavy is healthy I believe the Sox will win the central and play the Yanks or Redsox in the 1st round. I never said anything about anyone winning anything.

the wild card is not coming from the AL central, only the division winner will be in the playoffs.
I am guessing that he means in the Divisional Round or "wildcard round" Could this be it?

That why I said Yanks or Redsox vs WS. Either Boston or NY will be the WC

Anyone else think the Pads fleeced the Sux here? Not fishing, I'm serious.
I'm torn.First and foremost, I trust Kenny Williams when it comes to moving arms. (See Sirotka, McCarthy, Freddy Garcia)If he's still Peavy for the next 4 years, I don't care what they gave up. If not, it could be a disaster especially considering those pitchers will have inflated stats from pitching in that ballpark.

Extremely unlikely(barring the Padres hiding a career-threating injury from the White Sox). Richard is nothing more than a #4/#5 starter, never will be. Russell will be lucky to be in baseball 5 years from now. Poreda has a good fastball, and is a lefty, but he is reliever because he simply doesn't have a #2 pitch, and Dexter Carter is a 23 year old dominating low-A 18-year olds. Kenny Willaims doesn't get fleeced in these types of deals.

I think you're under selling Richard. He's never going to be an ace, but a #3? Yes, maybe even a #2 but I wouldn't expect it.I think you're under selling Poreda too. He has been used as a starter in the minors, he's not ready to start in the majors yet as he lacks polish but he has the tools to start in the future, there's a reason he was a 1st round pick two years ago.I've read Carter's best comparison as Jonathan Sanchez. Nothing special, but certainly valuable. At worst he's a high K bullpen arm, and if he harnesses in his control he could be another middle of the rotation arm.I haven't read anything good about Russell. Then there's Peavy, whose career numbers away from Petco are not ace worthy, his ERA has been over 4 and his HR rates have not been pretty three of the last four seasons. He's good, sometimes real good, but I don't think he's the future #1 Kenny expects...that is whenever he returns from his injury. He's often guilty of rising pitch counts forcing him out of games too early too.I realize Kenny has a good track record, but there's a lot of data here suggesting this deal may bust...especially as the rest of his pitching staff/batting order ages.

Didn't this guy used to be.... good?

He came into tonight's game with a 2.00 WHIP and an ERA north of 8.

His line tonight: 1 IP, 4 H, 5 ER, 3 BB, 1 HR

Christ.

So what do we think about this guy going forward? I just bought real low on him (SDrew & GGonzalez- both guys are backups on my team).

That's the sort of deal I'd do to get him and find out. Drew isn't any good, he just has a good spot in the lineup, Gio's inconsistencies are too much for me to handle. I wouldn't start him until he turns it around though.

Or start him tonight, either way...

Well Kenny didn't get fleeced but I think he did get something done to him in this deal that starts with an F and ends in an ED
