Pete Carroll to the Seahawks (1 Viewer)

I am curious about what is going to happen with USC now - both who they will hire to replace Carroll and the potential sanctions against the program.

 I thought the Carroll to Seattle was just a sick joke on already suffering Seahawk fans. When does this lunacy come to an end. We have gone from a potential hall of fame coach in Holmgren to Pete effin' Carroll in just one year. Todd Leiweke is another moron who needs to be expunged from this organization. Why is a ticket salesman in charge of hiring head coaches and team presidents?

What the F**k has Pete Carroll ever done to deserve the position of team president in the NFL?

The writing has to be on the wall at USC for Carroll to jump ship like this. He was a top 3 guy in college football and was getting recruit after recruit to come to USC. There was no pressure on him till this year with more and mud coming up around the program. If Carroll had nothing to do with these allegations he is a straight out coward for not hanging around and getting program thru this.

I think he knew part of the crap going on and bailded for the big pay check and lack of success coming to the USC program. SeaChickens will not be a quick turnaround with the talent there, and Carroll struggled in the NFL the last time.

Pete Carroll will definitely fail in Seattle.
Agreed. Also very excited to see him outta the Pac-10! Go Ducks!
Would anyone like to quantify what "fail" means? Guess at records? Number of seasons?
Exactly. What's going to be considered a failure?I'm more interested to see what coaches he hires. I can see a lot of former USC players coming over.I heard that Jack Del Rio might jump ship and go back home to 'SC.

I hope they get appropriately slapped. Carroll is a bit of a coward if you ask me--fleeing USC after he led the program into sanctions. That's pretty disgraceful if you ask me. I suspect USC's near term future will be similar to what happened to Miami after they were sanctioned. As for Seattle, Carroll failed twice before in the NFL so why would he succeed now? He can't cheat as easily in the NFL as he could in college (recruiting) and it is a lot harder to win when you don't have the best players. I can't see why Seattle would go guy who has a cloud over his integrity like this.

2 1/4 seasons. 9-27 record.

i hope for his sake ownership is not as starry eyed as some Hawk fans here and the lack of talent on the team isn't held against him.
Again, who is "some starry eyed Hawk fans"? Does "some" mean one person? I've responded several times in several threads and been pretty explicit in my dislike for what management has done. Further, I've seen more Seattle fans agree with me than disagree.LINK

Really? How about this from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pete_Carroll#...E2.80.931999.29 ".....His combined NFL record as head coach was 33–31............"

I don't think you understood the question, dude. Please re-read....its asking people to predict/guess record/seasons coached.

Thats great, Kenny. Unlike you, most 'Hawk fans here predicted an NFC West championship this year...check out the preseason threads. It was very entertaining. I like Carroll, but its a bad situation. Good luck

You mad bro?

Most? After winning the NFC West title four of five years I think most thought they had a shot, but you're reaching. There are like five to ten of us that post regularly here, and regularly means once a week IMO. How many Seattle fans that post regularly (I will leave it to you to define what that means) do you think you can list?
I like Carroll, but its a bad situation.
I'm like Gust (see my sig) when it comes to Carroll. We'll see.
Good luck
Really? You're sort of laying it on thick to be wishing me Good Luck. I'm sort of bothered by your broad generalizations of Seattle fans. Sure, we have some overly emotional tools, but no more or less than any other team. Do you have some particular ax to grind when it comes to Seattle fans? What's your motivation here?

why in the world would I be? :P i though we could talk NFL here without letards getting their panties in a bunch. i could care less about the seahawks.i see a team lacking talent with a new college HC, undergoing a massive rebuild w/o an experienced front office. i like Carroll, but its a tough situation. i don't think he succeeds.

serious business in the pool

I was surprised to see Carroll's record after all the talk. I would have assumed he was at least 10-15 games under .500.

Can someone point me toward the Seahawk fans who are excited about this hire? I live here, kind of like football, have a lot of friends who do as well, and I can't find anybody who's "starry eyed" about hiring Carroll. I'd much rather the team hired a GM and let the GM hire a coach.
Meh. I made a mistake in engaging the guy. I should have just left it alone. None of us are overly excited about the hire. Hopeful perhaps, but certainly not starry in the eyes.

Wonder why we never see this guy in Seahawk threads anymore.

he is a moron

Did you seahawk guys bump this so poor lions fans dont feel as bad about the Caldwell hire?

I mean no one thought the Carroll hire was a good one, really.

Pete Carroll - C - Seahawks

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports the Seahawks will announce a contract extension for coach Pete Carroll at a Friday press conference.

Carroll was going into the final season of his original five-year, $35 million deal he signed in 2010. It's a well-earned extension for the 62-year-old Carroll, who is one of only three coaches in football history to win both a Super Bowl and NCAA title. The Seahawks are 38-26 under Carroll's guidance, winning at least one playoff game in three of the past four seasons.

And the only 1 of those 3 to have his NCAA National Championship taken away. I guess it's a technicality that he "won" it.

It's the reason he jumped back to the NFL.

It is best if we just strike through that line. But it's not like Jimmy Johnson's U team and Switzer's Oklahoma team were clean either.

2nd and Gl from the 1, plenty of time, a timeout and Lynch and Wilson in the backfield. Pass. Bravo. Bravo.

On the radio last night the live report was that the Seattle locker room was distraught with lots of finger pointing at the staff. I'm not sure how overblown that is or if true if there will be a lasting effect.

I gotta say I admire Carroll for taking the heat. I wished McCarthy would have done that instead of putting on the proud face and not questioning himself.

wouldnt be a surprise if they were reactionary.

of course nothing wrong with calling a pass...just not what was effectively a 2pt conversion styled play-call.

  • Time wasnt an issue for the Hawks
  • It was 3W vs GL
  • The deception value was at its peak as apparently the entire world thought they'd run it
  • You had two more plays
Throw a freaking fade and score or move on to 3rd down.

Carroll seemed genuinely disturbed, almost destroyed on the inside in post game interviews, he held up really well, he must have been going through hell.

If it's any consolation, McCarthy looked like he was going to cry after the NFCC game. It's gotta be tough to get so close. These guys put in so much work, sacrifice their home lives, have to crush kids' dreams all summer, fight through controversy, and then to get so close has to really hurt.

Say what you want Carroll but you had nothing to do with it. No idea why he is protecting Bevell. The guy simply should be fired.

So we have a guy who makes the dumbest play call in the history of the NFL in the biggest game and he's still the offensive coordinator. Another fine example of horrible coaching allowed to continue. The smart move is to make an example of this guy if you want to run an organization. Stupidity is not to be tolerated.

I feel the same way about Caper in Green Bay. Just terrible and constantly carried but the other unit.

You just typed it. That means I read it on the internet, so its has to be true.

It's rampant in the NFL as is cronyism. That's why we see stupidity like we did yesterday. It takes a long time for these guys to get weeded out because they always know someone. Then they eventually get promoted well beyond their level of expertise.

Regardless of how I once felt about this hire once upon a time, I'm damn glad we have Carroll here in Seattle. He gets his players to play hard. He gets them to play for each other.
