Peter Jackson to make The Hobbit (1 Viewer)

I hope the Hobbit is more exciting than the LOTR movies. What a snoozefest.
Forgive him father, he knows not what he saith.
What one interesting thing happens the entire time they're in Rohan with Théoden?
The expelling of Grima Wormtongue was pretty compelling.
I don't know which are dumber, stormtroopers, droid army guys, or Théoden's guards (under Grima's direction)."He said 'Don't let them in with weapons.' It's just a wizard's staff, that's not a weapon."

What?!? Infinitely better than the Star Wars prequels.
Well duh.Seriously. I watched the Two Towers Extended Edition over the weekend with my kids and I thought i was going to fall asleep (until the Battle of Helm's Deep, that is.)
The movies definitely stretched, but Jackson was trying to capture the tone of the books.
The books are boring too?(Boring isn't quite the right word. Self-important might be better.)
lol I had a long response to this half-written, before I remembered that I've never even read the damn books.

Cool- more witchcraft, fantasy and sorcery. Bring the kids...
Is this post sarcastic? I kind of hope so.
 expedition IMO.
Really? So the LOTR and the Hobbit are not about witchcraft, fantasy and sorcery? Wizards, Trolls, magic rings, flesh eating hobbits? Dwarves and Elves?
Not the content of the books and movies, the tone of your post. "Cool... bring the kids". Sarcasm, right?
Not really. Who is going to see Harry Potter? The Chronicles of Narnia? LOTR? The Golden Compass? They even have a Harry Potter amusement park being built. I think that it is safe to say that it is catering to kids?
lolOne last time - do you think it's cool that they're catering to kids, or were you being sarcastic when you used the word?
Certainly that is two different questions and no I was not being sarcastic.
Really? Because it didn't sound like you were a big fan of the movies in your initial post. Maybe I just misread it.
No I am not a big fan of withcraft, sorcery, evil wizards and trolls.....

Sauron gets his ### kicked.
Not while they're at Rohan he doesn't.
You must have slept through this part. Sauron gets his ### kicked. Or at least gets a nosebleed. It may have been a tad bit slower than other parts of this trilogy, but (having read the books), the interspersed scenes with the ents completely make up for it.I wish they had done a bit more with them - the book has a lot more, and the battle was quite different."The ents have awoken, and found that they are strong."

 But wait, are pagan topics really appropriate for a movie potentially seen by children?
Definitely not. I think we need to start a protest movement to get this movie stopped in its tracks. Or at least make the christian fundie groups that protest harry potter aware that this is in production. I mean Medusa has serpents for hair! Serpents!

So you were being sarcastic?

Not in the least bit. Hard to be sarcastic when the reality of it all tells me that these movies are intended for kids.

After seeing Jackson's King Kong, I'm skeptical of any of his other efforts due to unnecessary bloat. I liked certain aspects of the LOTR movies, but sometimes, he just needs to trust his editor.

The Battle of 5 Armies might be the greatest action sequence ever seen on the silver screen.
It ends when a bunch of ghosts show up and literally blow through town.Everything that led up to it was great, but the finale was anti-climactic.
Except that the Battle of 5 Armies occurs at the end of The Hobbit. :nerd:
I'm apparently not up on the lingo. What's the final battle called? Is that Pelennor Fields, or whatever. And so, the Battle of 5 Armies hasn't actually been filmed yet?

What part are you talking about?(I'm separating out the Battle At Helm's Deep. That was exciting.)
Gandalf kicks Sauron out of Theoden's body. Sends him sprawling across the room back in Isengard. Gives him a nosebleed (eyebleed?).

Funny enough I thought the extended versions were *much* better than the theatrical ones.

Geez, I didn't think this innocent little thread would cause such an uproar. Christianity, flesh eating hobbits, titans clashing over serpants, power monster fishing(unintentionally).

Maybe I'll start a thread about the Calvin & Hobbs movie coming out next year... :nerd:

Yeah, King Kong didn't do it for me, I had somewhat high hopes. I don't think there was enough material to stretch that into a 3 hour film, but that's what he tried to do.

Tolkein was a devout roman catholic, and the books are as much about the power of good triumphing over evil as they are about "flesh eating hobbits"
Well if you want to look at it from this perspective:1.) Roman Catholics practice pagan traditions2.) The gospels talk in depth about good vs. evil- anything wrong with the Truth over fantasy?
QUESTION!Powermoster, do you celebrate Christmas? Thanks.

Yes, the battle of the Pelennor Fields is what occured in the End of LOTR, which sucked(mostly because it didn't follow the books, but the ghosts were a cop out). The Battle of the 5 armies occurs at the end of the Hobbit which, since there are two films, we won't see until 2011. It has a lot of potential though. There is a lot more fighting throughout the Hobbit than the LOTR trilogy which may make it not as "boring" at times.

Fundamental misunderstanding here: Sauron =/= Saruman

Ah a Catholic basher. We definitely don't have enough of those in the FFA.
Over under before magic cookie comic is linked?

My mind was saying Saruman - kept typing Sauron. Dangit.

Just to be a bit of a  but it was Saruman who possessed Theoden, not Sauron.

isn't this old news?

also, it doesn't look like Jackson is going to direct these.
As far as I knew, this news just came out in the last couple days. No, he is not. He is the executive producer. He's not directing, but there is still hope with him as EP.
I'm pretty sure this was announced months ago. It was a cover story in Entertainment Weekly that New Line and Jackson had begun negotiations. I guess this latest news just means they finally agreed on all the details or whatever.http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20036782_2...0142132,00.html

Yeah, that really pissed me off when I watched the movie. In the book, the ghost army only helped clear the southern lands so that more human help could come to Pelennor. Would've been more appropriate to keep it this way in the book. This, and the omission of the "Scouring of the Shire" really ruined the third movie for me.

I do not recognize Christmas as being the birth of Christ and I do see the flim flam of all it's traditions as being typical pagan nonsense....
