Typical Peter King here, from his 2/15/10 MMQB article:

The logical question for the Saints: Is all this celebrating and spate of parades -- the Saints' Super Bowl parade was so big that it was shown live on CNN with Wolf Blitzer throwing to reporters in the middle of his "Situation Room'' show -- going to go on so long that they affect the Saints' ability to repeat in 2010? Teams in the Super Bowl are so far behind the preparation 8-ball already, finishing the season five weeks after the 22 non-playoff teams.

He's right. The Saints now stand practically no chance of winning any games over the next six months. What were they thinking?

Agreed. They should have bowed out early to prepare for next year to go all the way. But of course, bow out early again next year, to prepare for the following year.......

I'd be more worried about the defense not scoring 10 TDs again than a nine-month hangover.
Except they still had the #1 offense in the league. I'd be more concerned about that if they struggled on offense and relied mostly on the defense to generate points. As long as they can continue to create turnovers, even at a lower pace, the TDs scored by them aren't as important.

I don't see any way they can make up the 3-4 hours it takes for a parade...especially since all of the scouts, personnel people and coaches are so heavily involved.

I hope they benched the starters half way through the parade.

Uh...aren't there 20 non-playoff teams? Just saying is all, Peter.

He proposed the question you have in the first post but you left off his conclusion:

Good for Loomis and the Saints. Players and coaches in this business say endlessly, like a mantra, that they're in this business to win a Super Bowl, and all our energy is focused on that. If five days after winning they say, OK, we've drawn a line in the sand, and we won't have any more talking about winning the Super Bowl. I mean, only an android would do that. Saints coach Sean Payton always had the tempo of the team in his hands, and the ability of Brees to see what was important (and when it was important, as in minimizing how poorly the team played in stretches near the end of the regular season) was a good leadership tool for the team. Until I see Payton with the lampshade on his head during a May minicamp, I say laissez les bon temps roullez. Let the good times roll.

Saints | Repeating as Super Bowl champs will be tough

Mon, 08 Feb 2010 08:23:35 -0800

Adam Schefter, of ESPN, reports more than 50 percent of players on the New Orleans Saints' roster have contracts that expire following the Super Bowl, according to NFLPA records. The Saints are scheduled to have 18 restricted free agents and 11 unrestricted free agents.

Add Schefter to the list who think it will be tough for the Saints to repeat.

Welcome back, Gopher. You were notoriously quiet this past week following the Saint's victory. Surprise, surprise, you're back posting knocks on the Saints (again).

Right. He posed a ridiculous premise (he calls it 'logical'), then takes a tough stand against it.Earth-shattering.

But this makes a lot more sense than what Peter King published...fyi.

I believe Fujita and Sharper are the only UFAs of any importance. All the important pieces are RFAs. The un-capped year will be huge for the Saints. They'll most likely be bringing back the entire team.

It's not earth-shattering. But it also isn't anything to start a thread about, either. Especially a thread in which you leave out his response to his own question.

For real. Me thinks he needed to man up myself. Oh well.

The article cited proves that it takes more than a knowledge of writing to write well--it requires that you have something meaningful to say.

Yeah, because it's going to be really tough to replace the likes of Nick Leckey and Darnell Dinkins.
