We, the undersigned, promise to use the "laughing like" button appropriately and accordance with rules and regulations set forth by FBG administrators, et al.

We understand the error of our ways and will act responsibly.

We miss the "laughing" like and this place just isn't the same without it.

Sincerely,

Mostly grown men who like to laugh

Removing it because a few psf degenerates refuse to engage in good faith dialogue and a few others get triggered by it was a bad decision.

Mostly grown men who like to laugh

Was this meant to include women, as in "mostly grown men" are signing on but also some women are?  Or the men signing on are "mostly grown" and none are partially or not-at-all grown?  Or most of the men signing on are grown but some are not, regardless of extent of grownness?  I'll need clarity before I can sign.

Also, I posted this in a music thread but wish to state here that in the absence of the laughing reaction I am using the otherwise underutilized crying reaction to indicate that actually I am laughing.

I actually specifically thought of you when I used that phrase.

I didn't even think of it as the other option, but it applies as well.

So the answer is ...yes.

Has anyone politely asked @Joe Bryant why it was removed ?
If youve spent a single second in the PSF you know why it was taken away. If there is still doubt, here are his words

People ignored us repeatedly asking posters not to use it in a negative way to laugh at other people.

At some point, it becomes clear people are going to ignore us asking.

If you like something or think something is funny, use the like emoji.

And to be fair, this was mostly (but not exclusively) in the Political Forum where people are regularly uncool to each other with this.

Unfortunately, we don't have the ability to change the allowable emojis for different forums.

Well unfortunate I have to work for a living so I don’t see every single post on these boards. I missed it

Thanks

I don't begrudge Joe his moderation. I seriously think the bad faith use of the emoji was the province of a lack of thought and ability to rebut certain statements.

It was a lack of imagination. It's too bad that it had to go because of it.

I’m on board as it came up in a response I had in one of the COVID threads and I realized how much I use it. I also think Joe has a thankless job of trying to moderate the mob and if he has what he thinks is a valid point, he’s probably not going to budge off it. His boards, his rules. Sad we always #### it up somehow.

still…IN

As am I.

Removing the laugh emoji in response to juvenile delinquents who can't do any better is not reasonable.  You don't pay Danegeld to the invaders.  It just encourages them to do more.

But it didn't have to go.  It shows a lack of moderation of the FBG board.  And a severe lack of listening skills.  Also, tone-deafness.

I'm often in the PSF. The use overwhelmed the board and there began to be fights over it and report buttons were mashed over it, causing the mods time and money and putting Joe in an untenable position. At some point, it's money and time for resources that could be spent elsewhere. And at some point, the people that patronize the boards are going to determine the board's fate writ large, and I just hope we're able to look past our disagreements and behave excellently.

It's not on the mods, and believe me, I have complained about certain aspects of moderation. It's on the people using it. That's where the blame should go, IMO.

The laughing emoji goes away but the posters who abused it are still around?  Makes no sense.

Then they should be banning the juveniles who can't control themselves.  Went through this exact thing on a different board I read.  It doesn't end well.  Banning the good stuff because of bad actors just encourages the behaviour.  It also drives the good actors from the board.  That's already happened several times.

Correct. This is the result of the actions of a dimwitted toxic tribe. Them behaving like schmucks then led to a select few consistently getting bent out of shape about it. Which then predictably led to that band of tools to increase the activity ten fold.

We are a very dumb society and this whole sequence events encapsulates it all very well. This is our 'politics' because this is what we are. Idiots.

Fair enough. I guess I see it as an expedient response during a busy time of the year.
But it's been going on for quite a while.  It slowly strangles the forums.  I have no interest in having to scold immature morons for being immature.  Since this is a pay site, I expect the mods to do this.  Isn't that a part of what we pay for?

WHY DONT WE JUST GET RID OF THE POLITICAL FORUM AND BRING BACK THE LAUGHING/LIKE EMOJI.

I BET 99% OF THE PEOPLE WILL AGREE TO THIS OPTION.

Sounds awesome.  But the PSF was created to get rid of the wankers who are still causing the problem.  How's that working out?

Remove PSF and keep the emoji!
Oh please Dear God, no.  At least all that nonsense is confined to one area and it doesn't pollute the FFA. It's so easy to avoid and not have to deal with.

This is like saying "Get rid of Congress and bring back the McRib"

Forums are free, Mrs. R. Not sure what you're saying here. This place has tons of people that don't have subs. I'd venture that they're largely the crux of the problem, too. They don't really respect the bandwith or investment.

Makes sense, doesn't it?  It's like nowadays when no one is offended, but 2% shout about it and it becomes a thing.  Getting rid of an emoticon because a few posters abused it in the PF just shows how woke this place is trying to be now.  What a pity.

Get rid of the PSF and continue not letting politics in FFA.

Sorry.  I figured that since we paid for the one thing, it included this.  Mr R does that stuff.

No sweat. Figured I'd just clarify. This is not part of the service you pay for. It's free.

Some of us -- ahem -- buy the subs because we use the boards so much and want to get the owners back for the bandwidth.
