Peyton Hillis out for a couple more weeks (1 Viewer)

I swear like 4 yrs ago I thought the Madden Curse was kind of a myth. But it happens almost every year. I mean look at Hillis again this year.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that Peyton Hillis will miss "at least" a couple more weeks after his Friday MRI showed a significant aggravation of Hillis' left hamstring strain. Just prior to Friday's re-aggravation, Yahoo Sports' Mike Silver and SI's Peter King both published reports of Browns veterans being fed up with Hillis' inability to play in games and obsession with his contract situation. Hillis won't be able to quiet those concerns while he's on the shelf. Montario Hardesty is also out indefinitely with a torn calf muscle, so Chris Ogbonnaya will be the Browns' starting tailback for the foreseeable future.

(This was just posted today.)

He's out!?!?!?!?!?

:wall:

I wish there was a damn thread about this, so I could have done something earlier.

This place suck now... where's all the vitals?

Ok OK I changed the Title. I don't own Hillis so it doesn't matter to me. And I expect owners to monitor there owne players injury situation. But if you guys want the Title changed there you have it.

Madden Curse:

1999: Garrison Hearst (next season: developed rare circulatory condition and had to retire from football)

2001: Eddie George (next season: had career best 1500 yards, but then declined to 939 yards and was never the same)

2002: Daunte Culpepper (went from 33 TDs and 11-5 record to 14 TDs and 5-11 record)

2003: Marshall Faulk (went from 1352 yards to 953 yards)

2004: Michael Vick (broke leg in preseason and missed most of the year)

2005: Ray Lewis (had worst season of career and also broke wrist, then tore hamstring the next season)

2006: Donovan McNabb (got injured and Philly missed the playoffs; the next season he tore his ACL)

2007: Shaun Alexander (went from 1880 yards to 896 yards after suffering a career-threatening foot injury)

2008: Vince Young (played OK in 2007 but then got injured and missed 2008 season)

2009: Brett Favre (had a disastrous season for the Jets)

2010: Larry Fitzgerald and Troy Polamalu (Fitzgerald made the Pro Bowl, but Polamalu missed most of the season due to MCL and PCL injuries)

2011: Drew Brees (tore MCL and threw career-high 22 INTs)

2012: Peyton Hillis

Basically, every player had a down year except for Eddie George and Larry Fitzgerald (and George hit the wall 12 months later).

"Almost" every year except, like, the last four (Young, Favre, Fitzgerald, Brees). Guess what: Football players get injured.

Favre tore his biceps tendon.Brees tore his MCL.

Fitzgerald's co-cover-model (Polamalu) injured his MCL and his PCL.

All 3 of those players experienced major performance declines. And while Vince Young managed to play the entire 2007 season, he did tear his MCL 12 1/2 months after appearing on the Madden cover.

"2003: Marshall Faulk (went from 1352 yards to 953 yards)"

Give. Me. A. Break.

Guys have career years, so they get put on Madden. Then they have a slightly worse season and OMG ITS THE MADDEN CURSE!#11!

"Brees tore his MCL."

...and missed 0 games.

You guys have too much time on your hands.

 I didn't do the research, I just copied the list from another site. But I don't think it's fair to say that they had "slightly worse" seasons after being on the cover. For example, Faulk went from the #1 overall fantasy player to the #25 overall player. Brees went from 7th overall to 27th overall. In fact, almost every player was significantly worse, and only one player in the history of Madden NFL actually improved their stats the year after appearing on the cover!!

Hearst: #5 RB to out of the league

George: #3 RB to #3 RB (then 19th the next season)

Culpepper: #1 QB to #15 QB

Faulk: #1 RB to #14 RB

Vick: #3 QB to #39 QB

Lewis: from 6 INTs/2 FRs/1.5 sacks/121 tackles to 0 INTs/1 FR/1 sack/101 tackles

McNabb: from #3 QB to #20 QB

Alexander: from #1 RB to #28 RB

Young: from #12 QB to #19 QB

Favre: from #8 QB to #14 QB

Fitzgerald: #1 WR to #5 WR

Polamalu: from 7 INTs/54 tackles to 3 INTs/18 tackles

Brees: #2 QB to #6 QB

Hillis: #2 RB to #40 RB

I don't think you could get the same results from random sampling.

Your own comments demonstrate that there is no Madden curse. If a "curse" is truly a curse, there are no exceptions. Eddie George, Fitzgerald and Brees are all examples of players who had good seasons after being on the cover. People try to come up with random explanations about why these 3 players fell under the curse, but at that point these silly explanations are demonstrate why there is no curse.

fbg news wire had article from Yahoo suggesting that the browns could possibly put him on IR... wow. this after multiple stories suggesting they'll be letting him walk after this season.

Yahoo suggesting it is one thing (No merit) the organization on the other hand saying this would give me cause to worry. IR talk begins and ends with TOM WITHERS as far as I am concerned.

i agree, food for thought nonetheless.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports the Browns are prepared to let Peyton Hillis walk in free agency after this season.

"It's one thing after another," one source said. "And what's been out there isn't even the half of it." A Friday MRI revealed that Hillis has a significant strain to his left hamstring after re-aggravating the injury in the first 15 minutes of practice. At this point, it would take a dramatic turnaround for him to remain in Cleveland when he becomes a free agent in March. Regardless of the injuries, Hillis does not appear to be at the same level he was last season when he rushed for 1,177 yards and 11 touchdowns. It's worth noting that Redskins coach Mike Shanahan drafted Hillis out of Arkansas in 2008, and may have interest in him during the offseason.

I dont see this as a Gruden / Keyshawn Johnson kind of deal. Seems to me Hillis was trying to go and suffered a set back. Everything beyond that is just speculation IMO.

Hillis should be PISSED at his teammates that had a meeting with him urging him to "put his head down and just play" (or something to that effect)He should be listening to his agent that urged him to sit it out... HE'S the one with his best interests at heart.

Hillis is revealing himself to be a selfish, childish, and injury-prone jerk. Costing himself a boatload of money with his actions this year.

Hiliis is delusional if he thinks he's gonna get big money. Guys like him have a very short shelf life and his window is closing rapidly.

1. Hiliis (Hillis), Hey's the new Peyton :football: 2. He will get big money! :boxing: 3. True, Running backs do have short careers (shelf lives), That is why Hillis wants to be paid. Now, he wants out of Cleveland also.4. Hillis will be very productive with another team next year, the bad blood between Hillis & the Browns will be a chess match this year.Hillis plays hard and will play injured, it's obvious he doesn't want to play in Cleveland right now. I wish we still had him here in Denver, but that clown McDaniels traded him and the rest of guys (Cutler, Marshall) and drafted Tebow. What a Jerk!!!!Hillis will be a very good RB for the next 3-5 years in my opinion. ( With a different team).

he tried to play injured and that is costing him most of the season. he was obv very susceptible to reinjury when it happened, and that was over a week after he first tried to practice so that he could get back on the field for games. its just terrible management by the browns. oh, and dont forget his idiot alleged "mates" calling him out and guilt tripping him onto the field. unfortunately most teams operate this way. 2 possible landing spots are detroit, who has done fantastically to shorten jahvid best's career and lifespan. or cincinnati, who had pacman jones returning kicks a few weeks after getting out of a long term neck brace.
