Peyton Manning was (1 Viewer)

If you took Eli that high why would you take Vick in the 4th you play in a two qb league? That is the only thing that makes sense to me.

Marc, remember that while it may appear that I am arguing in hindsight I am actually just :bowtie: for the comments I made BEFORE the year started that THIS year manning was the correct choice in the 1st round. When I was pressed BEFORE the year, I had said anytime after the 4th pick was a good idea, so clearly the latter part of the 1st round THIS year was a great move.
OK, then, to reach consensus, I give you props for foresight. :D
To the other question, no, I would not say that taking Manning in the 1st round (possibly even 12th) is a good idea every year.
Gotcha - and we agree that each year is different in re: taking Manning in the 1st, even though he is almost always drafted in the first 15 picks.Thank you for a great discussion - not sure if it'll change my early round draft strategy on QBs, but the discussion has certainly given me food for thought.
And that is what this all should really be about. The next time you have the "8th" pick in the 1st round, depending on your scoring system, Manning should be a consideration. To your point that Manning always goes in the top 15, well, you have to decide what makes sense for you rules and your projections of not only Manning, but the RB's that are left.Interestingly, yesterday was showed the logic string from before the year that there were only 2 players that I saw that were the clear RB's to take over Manning (LT2 and LJ) and all 3 of them had huge games. Manning put on one of the best performances you will see from a QB. In Denver and including 2 drops by Dallas Clark, Manning was 32-39 for 345 and 3 TD's (no picks). Denver did not stink, Manning was just awesome. LJ and LT2 were incredible as well.My comments at the beginning of the year was that anytime, after LT2 and LJ was a good time to take Manning, but I had Manning ranked 5th based on having Alexander and Portis ahead of him (even though they both had question marks coming in). My rankings/projections were not too far off from the Football Guys projections using the DD as FBG had Manning ranked 9th in my scoring system (1-20 and 6 pts a TD and -3 a pick)I am enjoying the conversation as well Marc!Regards,

We all draft for one thing - to win

For me, I never draft upside in the first rounds - I draft simply based on who I think will help me score consistently the most points on a week in and week out basis. Upside is left for later rounds. You have to try to maximise your scoring with your first four picks. Later picks have an increasing likelyhood of not panning out.

Manning owners are VERY happy this year. The guy in my league who has Manning is 7-1 and I am 14-2 in my 2 leagues with Manning. The league I do not have Manning, I am 5-3 and struggling with a now injured Hasselback who I trade for after drafting Warner and Aaron Brooks late
