PFT: Vikes suddenly short CB's (1 Viewer)

The Vikings are suddenly short on cornerbacks

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on August 31, 2010 3:22 PM ET

Nine days from a season-opening game against the high-flying Saints, the Vikings have a problem with their secondary depth.

Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that rookie cornerback Chris Cook will be sidelined at least two weeks after suffering a torn meniscus in his left knee Saturday.

Cook started the team's third preseason game. His emergence helped the team feel comfortable dealing away veteran cornerback Benny Sapp last week for wideout Greg Camarillo. The Vikings now look likely to start Lito Sheppard (who Cook had displaced) and move Asher Allen into the nickel back role.

Zulgad says the Vikings could look outside the organization to fill Sheppard's starting role, which says a lot about how they view Sheppard.

Somewhere, Saints coach Sean Payton is smiling and choosing his favorite plays featuring four wide receivers.

would it be crazy to think they try to trade back for Sapp as he probably knows the defense better than anybody else available

Add to that the fact that the Vikes safeties have played poorly in the pre-season, I think the easiest bet to make is Saints over Vikes in the opener.

How many points are you willing to lay or are you just taking the money line.
Saints are only a 4.5 point favorite right now? The deck is almost completely stacked against the Vikes:- It's in New Orleans- The Vikings d-backfield is in disarray with both Griffin and Cook out and Sheppard sucking.- Ditto for the o-line. Last year's starting center is probably out and former guard Herrera's probably going to starting instead, meaning 5th round rookie Chris DeGuere starts at guard.- Favre was rusty the first month of last year and I expect the same this year. He's also less healthy.- No Sidney Rice.- No established 3rd down back.I think the Saints will win by more than 10. But then I'm not much of a bettor so take that for what it's worth.

Man, who isn't short CB's. NE is missing their top 2. Cromartie ailing, Revis alone on his own private island. Now the vikings.

Love it.

3 wide and let it fly. :lmao:

Lito Sheppard was pretty good pretty recently, wasn't he?

Sean Payton might be down to Patrick Ramsey by then, though -- Jared Allen will probably pull a Charles Martin** on Drew Brees on the first series.** fast-forward video to 7:50
